  • Filmed in front of a live audience at the Littlefield Celtic Center in Mount Vernon, Washington, The Celtic Arts Foundation proudly presents the Valley of the Deer Revue Piping Concert.
Known primarily as a single malt whisky distiller, the Glenfiddich company also produces the annual Glenfiddich Piping Championship. This concert from the Celtic Center presents a number of Glenfiddich champions and invited participants for the only concert of its kind in North America. Join us for a wee dram and enjoy some of the best piping to be heard anywhere in the world!
Each autumn since 1991, Glenfiddich has hosted the Piping and Fiddle Championships in Perthshire, Scotland. Competition in this prestigious event is by invitation only, with winners of various recognized major UK solo competitions invited to compete for the coveted title. Each of the world-class pipers featured in this program have received the prestigious Glenfiddich award multiple times.
    Featuring performances by:
Stuart Liddell (Glenfiddich champion 2014 and 2009)
    Angus MacColl (Glenfiddich champion 2015, 2010, 2006, and 1995)
    William McCallum (Glenfiddich champion 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1994, 1993, and 1990

After playing pipes for 48 years I wish I played with this much clarity, these 3 pipers displayed the best performance I have ever seen. They demonstrate that even the simple 2/4's & 4/4's can sound amazing played with heart and soul. I would have listened to this at least 2-3 times a week since I came across it.

I loved Highland Wedding and Cameronian Rant as Hornpipes. I can imagine that after playing those tunes over and over in competition they would lose their shine and an otherwise bored player might start to see what else you could do with those same collection of notes. Very clever and entertaining, and oh, so musical. Well done Terry and Stuart!

Will try and make a very very far link here. Holy Roman Empire was part of some parts of Italy and Germany. Bagpipes were orignally made in Europe ( mainly Spain) and were brought to Scotland by the Romans. So maybe your family in Germany were playing them and maybe thats why you love them... :)

I wonder if any of these guys with their superb tone, provided the sound samples for the Blair chanter.

Fantastic piping, I competed alongside these people in the eighties and nineties, But alas their is one person missing, Gordon Walker.( Royal Highland Fusiliers. )
I do not think to this day, Gordon was guilty of the things said against him. I have tried to track him down ,if he is in the prison system, Acklington prison is quit close to me and I know some warders their, Gordon is not there now, although there was talk of a prison pipe band, just the thing that Gordon Walker would do. Best wishes to you all. If any of you know where Gordon is , Please could you let me know, just like auld days and a few wee drams before ye go on at Luss Games etc.

This is not meant as a criticism, but why during competitions are the tunes so slow and deliberate, but during other events more lively pipe tunes are played? Is it to just accentuate each note? I just started on the chanter and learning.
