      No, it is not unfair, different Match, nothing to do one with the other. Both Sindhu and Marin should be penalyse. I do think that badmiton umpire are to soft. I do not a shit of badmiton, but I think the refereces should learn a bit from rugby refereces (not only badmiton but a lot of sport).

    Giving umpire absolute authority is completely and utterly stupid. Umpires are not there to display power over players, they are there to ensure fainess. If players can challenge a line call, they should be able to challenge an umpire's decision too. The idea of not allowing players to challege umpire's decision makes umpires become arrogant, because they think they can play god. The tournament referee should be allowed to review slo-mo replay or hawkeye of ANY situation to judge the umpire's decision once per match.

    Another example why tournament referees are useless. What's surprising is this thing has been going on for too long. A lot of bad umpiring and poor decisions made worse when umpire calls cannot be reversed (even when there's a clear error). I'm also surprised this matter is not looked into and not improved by BWF, instead BWF is only interested in unnecessary changes like the point system.. Smh.

    • @pauldodd2120
      @pauldodd2120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tournament referees are managing the tournament, starting with 4-5 courts. They can't look at all courts, and may be too far away or otherwise occupied. It's not their job to oversee rallies. The service judge can support the umpire by indicating a fault or whatever, but the umpire may not see this, may decide differently, or the service judge might not indicate anything.

    I think that in these cases, when it is clear that there is a wrong decision by the umpire, the opponent in badminton who won the point should have the integrity to admit and tell the umpire that they should not get the point, and if that doesn't work have the respect to give the next point to the opponent. Similiar to how viktor axelsen gave that point to chou tien chen in a match. There is no honour in winning if you do not deserve it, and it is no victory either

    • @karunanithin.ramachandran6482
      @karunanithin.ramachandran6482 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      You are right . Players are often told to display sportsmanship but a lot of players will not, not because they lack integrity but are fearful that their national associations will penalize them .
      You can see this in a lot of sports , esp. team sports .
      Coaches and managers are pressured to perform and they in turn pressure the players to win at all cost .
      The days of true sportsmanship is a rare sight and probably will disappear altogether when prize money and national pride are the priority .
