I think sighted people don't really think about that they have to say their name again even if you have met before. This really was something I had not considered until I started watching blind youtubers :D So as a sighted person I would appreciate when I meet a blind person that they say something to remind me that they cannot recognise me like a sighted person would. And I would never think that was awkward, I would be glad for the reminder, because if you think about it, it really makes sense :D
I would flip out if someone grabbed my arm all of the sudden 🤣 I have PTSD & im almost sure I would accidentally hit someone without meaning to 😬 & im glad you talked about not just pressing the “open door” button for someone without asking. I would have thought I was being helpful & could have caused someone to get hurt. Have a great weekend!!!!!
Could you make a video talking about appropriate way to approach a blind person, asking them if they need help, how to help them and appropriate questions to ask and not to ask?
This was so relatable!! Happens to me all the time, especially the button and when people are on the phone. Another awkward moment that happens to me is sitting on someone thinking the chair is empty. I now make it a habit of touching the seat before sitting. Another moment is as I was leaving the movies, I reached out to grab the handle to the stairs and I grabbed some guys, well, fill in the blank. It was horrible, but now I laugh!!
I would love to see stores have more of the pull behind style cart (it’s basically like a suitcase shape. It would work so much better for blind people
Hi there, I can so relate to all your stories. Sounds like it wouldn’t hurt for your school to do some blind or disability etiquette briefings when school starts back. I always make sure when I get introduced to somebody to say “don’t forget I won’t know your voice when you say hello to me next time so please tell me who you are“ it took me a long time to get to this point, but after all, sometimes we have to point out the bloody obvious. Keep up the good videos
Kay! Finding your car is hard even if you are sighted!!!🤣 I one time put my groceries in the car and got in and was trying to figure out why my car would not start?!?!? Thats when a guy walked up amd asked why I was trying to steal his car!!!🙃🙄 I looked at him like he was crazy...nahhh this is MY car see?...A yellow caviler!!! He responds that he too has a yellow caviler and I happen to be sitting in it! 🤦 my dog led me to 'my' car...bur MY car was the next row and 3 cars down!!! 🤣😆🤣🤷 what can you do? At least he helped me carry my groceries to my caviler!!!!
When I go to the store I try to get a small cart and hold on to the front of it on the side so it’s next to me. then I use my cane and sweep it wide so it covers me and the cart.
I do this with full sized carts too but the small one is so much easier to maneuver. And it’s so awkward when I think someone is a family member so I either run after them yelling to wait, or get uncomfortably close to them, or whatever. Also with the separaters on registers now, some of them have a slot underneath to slide it through and some you have to like hand your things to them around the glass, so a few times I have sat there repeatedly hitting the glass with what I’m trying to buy.
I have albinism and my biggest pet peeve is when a curb isn’t painted a bright color! Or even when somewhere that is not a curb is colored because then I get them confused and it’s awful!

My worst blind girl moment to date is standing behind a mannequin and asking where the restroom was!

I’ll actually ask people to not press the button for the door for me, because it could actually be very dangerous for my dog.
