  • In today's video, I talk about the school supplies I use in college as a student who is visually impaired. It's hard to know what you will (and will not) need starting college, and most videos focus on the "fun stuff" like dorm decor. It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about school supplies, so I made this video to help you think about what you will need. Of course, everyone is different, and no two visually impaired people are exactly alike, so what works best for me might not for you. Hopefully, these suggestions will give you ideas of things to try, and some of them just might turn out to be your new favorites!
After talking to a friend, it sounds like the new MacBook Airs have the same resolution as the MacBook Pro, so zooming in shouldn't be a problem on them now, but I haven't tried it myself to know for sure. I would recommend just looking at all the different options at the Apple store when buying a new computer, especially if it's your first!

You are correct! The BoldWriter 20 has taken place of the 20/20 pen

Haha can totally relate to always running out of ink with the 20/20 pens!! Love to hate them. Hate to love them.

I actually prefered NVDA to voiceover for the computer and found I like windows computer accessibility or someting a bit better. I have a SurfaceBook Pro. For notetaking I found I process the information better when I write it on paper

Glad you found what works best for you! Every person who is blind / VI is so different that I think it helps to hear what others do to get ideas for what things to try so each person can find what will work best for them. I like writing on paper too, as much as my vision will allow. I'm glad I'm not alone on that, haha!

From Kay to Zee yeah, I do like to hear how others go about it. I plan on trying to do my notetaking at the start of this semester with a Braille slate and stylus. I know that typing it won’t work as well for me so I want to give Braille a try to see if I can lessen the eye fatigue

I do everything on my iPad as well. I can relate to the frustration of trying to learn a new calculator layout. What do you majoring in by the way? Also, where did you get that portable CD TV? I have a non-portable version but your sounds pretty useful.

I didn't know that! I guess I can't replace all of my dried up 20/20 pens then. They really weren't great, so I guess it's not a surprise. I liked them in high school when my visual fatigue was worse, but in college I just got frustrated with how quickly they ran out of ink.
