But in the show, you know if he told the boys if he was gonna blow himself up or to fight Buu they would probably want to join to fight or try to stop him. Children can be stubborn sometimes, and I can especially imagine Trunks.
Even the knockout is him being nice as he's saving them from getting hurt. But the video looks better without it (IMO at least when I edited it).

That is true. It's just a part of growing up. Life doesn't always turn out to be as convenient as Goku's power ups, it has hurdles like my mighty prince's path
He has the most realistic character development, without loosing the personality that made him vegeta. I really loved how the writers kept him as cranky, competitive and driven as they did even while giving him nobility, loyalty and acceptance.

@BigBoris He was at full strength. Being in Spirit form doesn't lower your power level if anything you're stronger because you don't have to worry about losing energy as quickly. He was talking about the fact that he hadn't grown any stronger since fighting Buu the first time.

He's just got that superhero chrisma and mannerisms (more so than Gotenks, and more enthusiasm than someone like Superman), keeps evil away, and even fights crime with the love of his life. Man is pretty set.

What I like about Vegeta’s character development is that it feels realistic and despite being a better person now, he doesn’t lose the core traits that make him who he is

Vegeta was always competitive and royal, never allowing anybody to take his elite status, well explained in his “you are the best” soliloquy while Gok-I mean Kakarot was fighting Buu
But this is exactly why the low-class always pushes him further, always developing new skills shortly after he does
It was because of Kakarot’s awakening the Super Saiyan legend that Vegeta pushed himself so hard to transform into it himself, and it continues on through Blue Evolved and Ultra Ego
And when he’s unable to fight any further, he knows he can rely on his gold-armoured knights to clean up, whether it be Trunks against Zamasu, or Goku against Jiren
He even gained pride in both Gohan and Trunks, despite naturally being disgusted with them at first, not just cuz of the concept of half-breeds at first, but also to their strength (in the former case anyway). But eventually he grew to realize how they develop the warrior race he takes so much pride in, and as such encourages them (in his own way)
He uses the anger from their strength to fuel both his drive to get stronger, as well as his pride as the prince, and when push comes to shove he knows he can rely on them if something happens (which is all the time lol)

Anyhow in granolah arc vegetas character development has been great and im assuming so wil goku in future manga chapters considering what happened with tui and bardock
Basically, he's still the prideful price of the saiyans, but gradually became a good father and husband, able to do anything to protect those who he loves
Vegeta went from murderer to semi-reformed murderer to egotistical madman who only cares about a good fight to a father who went into a blind rage for his "baby boy" and then a father who willingly sacrificed himself in order for the slimmest chance at stopping Buu.

I can't stand Vegeta right now. I especially can't stand that he's given so many chances so far by the dragon team and has so far exploited all of them.
Ofc meanwhile Bulma is like "he's actually a good person" despite the last time she saw him, he killed her boyfriend. Also this is just not something Bulma would ever say at this point in the series. She hasn't really said anything meaningful about anyone's personality in the series, let alone some random asshole from space. She doesn't take shit from Goku so idfk why she'd give that much leniency for Vegeta. Then ofc Trunks gets to meet him, and on his way back to his timeline he's glazing Vegeta as a proud strong warrior even though all Vegeta did glare at him and yell at him lol.
I'm gonna keep watching but I'm already sick of listening to Vegeta talk ruling the universe for no reason, while everyone else pretends he's a better person than he is. He's prematurely walking around with a lot of unearned affection and respect. Piccolo's character development was so much easier to watch than this, and I actually wanted to see Piccolo redeemed because he was a likeable character that earnt it.

Vegeta loves his family more than arguably anyone else in the show. What a legend.
Vegeta has the best/realistic character development throughout the entire series. Before he was known for being a merciless and arrogant villain, not caring for anyone but himself, but throughout the series, he started to care for others, especially his family. And even though he still has his more serious/determined personality, deep down he cares for the people around him, which goes to show how much he has changed overtime.

I love too how all the super-powered Z Fighters at the tournament, even Android 18, went along with the concept of going easy on the punching machine to appear normal, but Vegeta just gave no f****s and straight up pulverized it. There's something so endearing and hilarious about him becoming a nicer guy and cool with living on Earth but still never lowering his powers to meet its standards.
Goku might be always one step ahead when it comes to fighting, but Vegeta is many steps ahead when it comes to being a father and a husband.

Instead, he's calling out with urgency (and giving himself away) that he's coming. That's not a prince defending his heir, thats a father urgently trying to rush to his child's defense.

Overblown reactions are a major style of Japanese comedy. A fantastic example of it is the Kyoto Manzai style which relies on a straight man/funny man duo. The funny man says something outrageous, and the straight man yells at them.
Manzai has a specific format, with gestures and responses, but that basic frame work can be seen pretty commonly in other Japanese media: take Vegeta reacting to Goku saying he never kissed his wife. Ot the entire Great Saiyaman arc.

How did he hate him?? He made him a changeable character. Someone that could change and also be forgiven. Even if he still mean but not as cruel or vicious. It shows the balance of life
I think there was an interview where Toriyama said near the beginning that Vegeta wasn't exactly his favorite character or something. But either way I remember looking up a whole ordeal on why Vegeta being hated was actually a common rumor passed around and basically untrue. That was a long time ago though so I don't pretend to know fully what I'm talking about, but you guys can do research if you want.

The “You Are Number 1.” moment is the ultimate version of this. I really wish they carried this character development on to Super. Vegeta learning humility and throwing out his pride for the sake of kinship and clarity is the perfect finale to his character in Z, and I get really tired of the “I HAVE TO SURPASS KAKAROT” shtick still being a thing despite what he’s been through.
vegeta succumbed to majin because hed lost his pride. he regained his pride upon realizing the life hed built was something to be proud of. and he has pride in his son. he makes the ultimate sacrifice for his pride. its epic.

Vegeta actually has a lot of character growth throughout the series, from being evil to righteous. And from being outclassed to being underestimated
I never noticed how happy he was when he said "We're screwed" about him having to fight Super Buu after having lost to Majin Buu
Vegeta’s sacrificial atonement was one of the most emotionally powerful moments in all of Dragon Ball if you ask me. It was one of those moments where we saw the guy who’s been a narcissistic jerk for most of the time we’ve known him to finally showing the biggest and most authentic part of himself. The MAN who wants to keep his home and family safe - not the battle-hungry, power-coveting Saiyan prince we’ve mostly seen.

Vegeta's helpless "Please don't." At the end just warms my heart. From a ruthless Saiyan who cared for none other than himself, into a man who cared for his loved ones and above all else his own son.

Wouldn't be complete without that dumb grin he had after haha.
There's no doubt why Vegeta is one of the best characters by far, he constantly and slowly develops himself as the series goes on, but he doesn't leave behind his reasons to fight and improove, in fact now having people to fight with and alongside he can stay competitive but be as heartfelt as he is without being out of character. Every second he spends on screen he tolerates more and more goku's presence to the point where if something matters to goku it matters to him, it's just that he doesn't show it directly or uses excuses to do so because he isn't any less pridefull than he was at the start.

I feel Vegeta's potential is truly unleashed when he just truly let's loose of everything. No kakarot, no saiyan pride (Yeah, even that), no guilt for the saiyan races atrocities, nothing, just like when he first went super saiyan and now with Ultra Ego where he's acting purely on his own instinct and embracing his nature, the main reason he lost the form to Granolah was because he couldn't truly embrace destruction and the absence of guilt. He reaches his limit when he let's all of that baggage go for a moment.
With Beerus he didn't care about any of the consequences, Kakarot, the saiyan race, anything except for Bulma. He just stopped THINKING so much and truly focused on only one thing while embracing his violent and angered nature within combat. That's when his power skyrocketed to new heights. (Whis even said that Vegeta is always thinking way too much when he fights, while Goku being the pure soul he is, is always pretty carefree and always able to really let loose).
I know Toriyama never planned that and some may disagree but that's just how I viewed it.

Vegeta has come so far as a man. He went from being as cantankerous as he could to being a man who tries hard despite his struggles. He struggles to articulate his emotions but tries anyways. He struggles to trust others but tries anyways. He struggles to allow himself to value things other than his pride but he tries anyways.
You can see this by how he now always thinks of his family before being the best. He was ready to refuse the opportunity to train because his daughter was about to be born and he both realized that it was his responsibility to be there, but he also wanted to be there.
He lets his emotions through now. Becoming enraged when Beerus hurt Bulma. Bringing trunks to the amusement park. Doting over his new born daughter. He also lets himself feel happiness beyond just that which he derives from being the strongest. I mean smiling and giving Majin Buu that hotdog? He didn't have to do that. He did it because it made him happy.
In the Goku black arc when Trunks told them to go back to the past, Vegeta initially thought that was cowardly but he saw value in Goku's opinion that Trunks was right. In the shadow dragon saga in GT he was able to swallow his pride enough to accept bulma's help in becoming a ssj4.
Vegeta's character development is wonderful.

Vegeta is in my opinion the most well written character in Anime. His journey from a Prince who was forced into serving a galactic tyrant to a warrior with immense passion, persistence and tactic along with being a great father and husband is truly wonderful development.

I like how we, as a fandom, have just accepted that DBZ characters can just spontaneously combust on the spot at any given moment. They can just kamikaze themselves and take everything in the radius with them. I love that for us.
