Your voice is beautiful. Been a fan for years. I love playing your stuff for my daughter. Even at 5 years old she becomes very animated when she hears you, she has autism and music is when she loses herself and dances. It's a joy to see.
I just had to say that I love this comment! It reminds me of a song by Canadian rockers, Triumph, called "Magic Power." Not to take anything away from the music of The Darkness....In fact, I'm fairly certain that Justin would approve of this endorsement. No doubt that your story you shared with all of us is what music is all about!

Very true. As a guitar player from a very young age, I've realized most people don't understand the power of a cranked 100w tube amp with the full 2 4x12 setup. Beyond that, having 2 or 3 on stage behind you screaming. Rock music is about the feel, and the feel that gives you is incomparable. This modern DI modeling setup will never get that feel, where you are fighting this monster behind you that's literally making you go deaf. It's dangerous, thrilling, incomparable. If that goes away, we will truly lose something intangible that makes rock what it is. In-ears, phone speakers, your car, it isn't the same as hanging over the rail in front of the stage and behind hit with that. You are experiencing it with the players, a shared energy.
Your voice is phenomenal - hearing that you failed the audition has to be the most motivational thing for any performer. Saw you with the band a couple of times and you are a rare talent.
Gotta say, as a fan of yours for nearly 20 years, I cannot emphasize enough how much I love your music! It is such a breath of fresh air in today's musical climate.

Justin, I am a new fan! I have to say I didn't get into The Datkness at all back in the day, but these videos are amazing. Really insightful, funny and you come across as genuinely a nice guy.
Great fun, thanks man. My abiding memory of The Darkness was a gig at Edinburgh Corn Exchange where we had a really good spot, then 30 seconds before you came on, two guys in glitter suits and ON STILTS - like 9 ft tall - came in and stood right in front of us. I've never wanted so much to set fire to someone's legs. Lol.

Hi Justin, thanks for a cracking show at the Enmore tonight. Good on you for getting the audience to put their phones away, it was so much better after that. The Southern River boys were great too.
Great questions and even better answers this week Justin. I love that you don't just open your mouth and the first thing that comes out is it. You actually sit and ponder the question for a moment and then give an honest and structured comment. You can't buy that stuff and is one of the reasons I love your channel so much. Hey Justin! Your insights and experiences are incredibly interesting and I will never tire of hearing them. Before I discovered your channel, TH-cam was simply a resource for looking up music videos or to learn how to do something. Justin Hawkins Rides Again is the ONLY channel that I have ever followed and looked forward to the next video! I admire your intelligence and wit, your honesty, kindness and compassion, your supreme sense of humor and Boss Musicianship! This channel brings so much joy to my life (and millions of others) and I hope you are able to continue JHRA for a long time. You are one of my most favorite people ever. For real. 💛
My wife and I just saw you in Adelaide, and you're absolutely right - it couldnt be simulated. I got two of your picks, I bought the second to last hoodie and (if you remember) I pushed you back up when you almost fell during the stage dive (getting back on stage). That whole show was one of the best things I have ever experience in my life - So Thank You, Dan, Frankie and ROOooOfus! I had a smile the whole time - And im generally a sourfaced git (unintentionally).
Live in person music will never go away. At the end of the day people enjoy getting together and having shared in person experiences. Especially when you're young and free of too many obligations.
I met you during the 'Messy stage' probably back in about 2002 in Amsterdam Airport. To this day, the only 'celebrity' I've ever met. I was really into the darkness and was blown away to see you there, my one chance to thank you. You were horrible! Really mean, refused to talk to me until Ed forced you to! I'm empathetic enough to realise it wasn't personal, though it did hurt to be dismissed with so little thought. I really appreciate that you're honest and, seemingly, apologetic for that period!
You never know what people bring in with them when you meet them. Someone could be having the shittest day and you have an expectation. Generally, I avoid meeting idols.
Have you ever thought of doing a couple of albums of cover versions featuring some of your favourite songs from the past 50 years? As someone who often looks for stocking fillers at this time of year, a Darkness covers or even a Darkness Christmas album would be most welcome, especially if released on vinyl. Perhaps you could ask your youtube subscribers to vote on a shortlist for songs to make the cut.
You're a genuine guy. Respect the humility. Excellent singer, but as you said, an acquired taste. Your range is world class. Rick Beato agrees... need I say more
This tells me now how i can love watching these shows, and honestly i didn't hear any of the music until recently. You don't have the ego that most singers/lead have - and i say that as a compliment.
I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for
If you can afford to take the risk, do everything you can to achieve financial independence as soon as possible. It is made possible through bitcoin. Thousands of people have done it.
Hey - I've been hearing about Richard for a long time now. Started during the pandemic and I've heard of how accurate his signals is.. I really do appreciate hearing your advice and feel that it is genuine
If we ever get to a point where any kind event with large amounts of people in one place is done virtually, without you even leaving your house, that is when we can say for sure that the conspiracies are true, and we are so under control that we are isolating ourselves to avoid any possible sedition that mass gatherings might inspire.
I know Justin most likely won't read this, and anyone that does probably won't care, but I'm too excited to keep this to myself: I saw The Darkness last night at Adelaide, and while I'm glad Justin was able get his life back on track, him and the band stayed just the right amount of crazy to make it possibly the most fun concert of my entire life! Most bands aren't able to rock as hard as they did when they were younger; The Darkness were a total blast! Not to brag, but I managed to catch one of Justin's picks, and I even got to help Justin when he was crowdsurfing! 10/10 concert, will definitely try to go again if given the chance. (Also, I'm aware of all the exclamation marks, but again, excitement.)
You might be surprised, he not only reads the comments here but responds to some too - I discovered if you bung him a couple of quid via the _Thanks_ here he tends to reply, not because he needs the cash but just to acknowledge and appreciate it, top man 😉
@Rebecca Johnson. As a matter of fact, they are. The Darkness is currently doing a tour of Australia and New Zealand. I figure these videos were pre-recorded, as I don't see any significant changes to the location (aside from recently moving his studio setup, of course). I mean, thinking about it, I guess it makes sense; as cool as it would be to see Justin making these videos while on the road, I imagine it would be quite a hassle to always have to set up a decent studio in all their venues. EDIT: Added specific information as to their being in Australia.
Hey Justin, I’ve been a fan of your music since 2005 and I’m very happy I’ve just discovered your TH-cam channel. I’ve also struggled with alcohol and I want to congratulate you on your sobriety. Thanks for doing what you do! 🖤
Hi Justin. Question: How important do you think knowing music theory is to a person starting playing an instrument, or even an intermediate player for that matter? Did you find that knowing your way around modes and keys etc and how they related to each other helped your abilities of constructing melodies, chord progressions or songs in general?
Not a fan either but I too can listen to Justin talk all day. although I did love a tune they did called bareback with no lyrics just great raw sounding guitars
I booked my tickets to the Canberra gig and V.I.P experience for 18th October back in May.. 2 days to go!!! How cool is it that I live in shittie Canberra and the best rock band in the world come here 😀 I'll be " dancing on a Tuesday night " I've got ping pong on Wednesday Archery on Thursday
Thanks for mentioning "The Bends"... been listening to that non-stop while making a game for the past few weeks. Such a great album! Probably one of the best.
Mint mobile has unlimited data for better prices than I’ve seen on other carriers. I sometimes use a terabyte in less than a month (or did before I moved and got internet).
You cant simulate it completely. There is a transfer of energy that takes place at a real gig that cant be replicated in a simulation. Energy goes where the attention goes & i've felt the rush of being on stage myself & it's quite a powerful thing both for the audience but for the band as well. For the band it's an addictive substance.
Thanks for all the great song / band break downs. Have you considered doing a video on the late 80s/early 90s power pop band Jellyfish? Songs like Joining A Fan Club, That Is Why or any of their tunes really - have that great 70s rock/pop vibe with brilliant production. Cheers.
Hey Justin.. I'm back in college after a 30 year break. I'm taking a rock history class and we have to post videos that influenced the genre of rock music to move forward. We're posting on the 70s now, but "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" will be my 2000s post. I already have my write up on The Darkness ready to post! I've learned so much about rock music from your channel that I consider you my professor's secret teaching assistant. Cheers and thanks for helping me get top grades!
Live gigs win. If we had sat at home for last night's gig instead of being at The Enmore Theatre in Sydney, we would have missed that charming green haired young lady and her delightful proclamation 🤦♀️😆 Stay live! It's a pleasure watching the crowd almost as much as the show.
Peter Gabriel agrees with your album idea. He named his first 59 albums Peter Gabriel. And at the same time, unrelated, Phil Collins stuck his face in a tight close up on everyone of his (popular) albums. And ironically, Genesis never put themselves on their covers.
My wife gave birth to our baby girl yesterday, a new Queen Song was released these days and now in hospital, watching my baby girl getting prepared for life i found a TH-cam Channel from the frontman of my second favourite band after Queen. Can it get any better?
Justin, your Gibson acoustic is wonderful but it would also be awesome if your channel was graced with the presence of your tremendous Les Paul Custom some time!
I have to thank you for introducing Polyphia to me in one of your previous videos. It’s the first time in a very long time, where after hearing one song, I preordered a record by a band I just heard. It’s exciting when that happens, so thank you for that.
I remember seeing The Darkness live in Folkestone on 8 February 2004, I still have the photos I took that night, outside the Leas Cliff Hall, of my friend with you, Dan, and Vic Reeves who was there with his auctioneer buddy Michael Hogben. It's great to see you looking so well, with the "mess" in the past.
So here's a question. I find myself to be the most driven in my band. We are finally getting out there on platforms and gigging around everywhere. Everyone else seems to not prioritize the band as much as I do. What should I do to maybe try to motivate them so we can more productive?
Justin you're always so forth coming about everything, I always find something to take with me when your show has concluded. Thank you for being you. As far as even thinking about sitting on my buttocks at home to watch a live show WTF No Finging WAY.
No question, but a little VR insight for everybody interested🎸🕶: TL;DR: Justin is right, we are not quite there yet, but at the same time there is a lot happening in VR research, AR and VR should be seen as a means to expand what is possible in the real world and not so much to "replace reality" + a nice paper regarding a virtual Dire Straits concert I happen to be a young researcher/PhD student working on social interactions in Mixed Reality (MR), i.e. the spectrum between Augmented (still mainly perceiving the real world with virtual add-ons) and Virtual Reality (mainly perceiving virtual elements). With this background and as a young but die-hard classic-HardRock fan, it's almost a matter of the heart for me to point you to some research-based findings, that also concern concerts in mixed reality. Personally, I believe that live concerts will never die out, but experiencing them rather be enhanced and extended by other means of "being there" as a logical next step after live TV telemediation or asynchronous experiences such as Vinyl or DVD recordings. In comparison to the latter, however, in MR with a way more realistic experience: In the basic understanding of MR, you can move freely with the virtual world realistically evolving around you, which is not restricted to vision or hearing but also touching objects, either through haptic motors or smartly placing objects in reality when you try to grab (or smell) something in MR - or even beyond, e.g. by feeling the musicians heart beat or sharing yours with your beloved ones during an emotionally important song - and this, again, for all the senses. In general I think that the power of MR is not trying to replace reality but to help to go beyond what's currently considered "real" or "possible in our reality". I'd would really love to experience (or even Jam with) Deep Purple between 1970 and 1974 or Ronnie James Dio. For now, I guess you are right, that experience is not quite there yet - or at least not available to the public. But I believe it will be possible in a multimodal fashion for affordable money in the not so distant future with close-to realistic and "full" immersion, i.e. technological affordances, which we generally call displays, that provide stimuli to all of the human receptors, including those of touch - and smell. For these displays there are already plenty of prototypes and studies. In more dystopian ideation we are no longer just thinking about headsets or chunky haptic suits any more but immersion through direct stimulation of the brain. Even without those, I am again and again impressed, which big effects nuances, e.g. regarding social behaviour of virtual humans, already in visual only MR, can have on you and your virtual reality experience. Anyhow: The following paper is a very nice overview by (probably) the most respected researcher in our field, who seems to be a big Knopfer fan, which coincides nicely with you just mentioning Brothers in Arms, while I am writing this. Slater has been involved in VR research already since the early 90s and has shaped a lot of our current understanding from an human-computer interaction, sociological and even neuroscientific perspective. This paper also nicely highlights the possible drawbacks of these technologies, e.g. that presence can be a trigger for (social) anxiety and bad experiences, which however underlines how realistic these simulations already appear to the user, even though it might be a subconscious reaction (which is a part of our current understanding). By the way - the provided graphics are not atypical for research scenarios, where we rather focus on single variables like "correct" social behaviour (mutual gaze, interpersonal distance and so on) rather then perfect renderings, which have their own problems (i.e. uncanny valley effects). For you, probably the abstract section (summary of the general problem and findings) and introduction should provide the most interesting insights for you and others interested in this possible future of reality. Wishing you all-time silk-smooth vocal cords from Munich and St Gallen (CH), Daniel Paper: Slater et al. I admire your intelligence and wit, your honesty, kindness and compassion, your supreme sense of humor and Boss Musicianship! This channel brings so much joy to my life (and millions of others) and I hope you are able to continue JHRA for a long time. You are one of my most favorite people ever. For real. 💛
I second that emotion.
We need Justin to go on Rick Beato's podcast, or vice versa. They seem like kindred souls.
@@cecilcharlesofficial , I just saw that that video is up. I’m not a Beato fan, and haven’t watched it, but since you were asking about it, it’s up.
I am back, your extrinsic rival! I see you are delivering some thoughtful insights...clever of you Mr. Hawkins...very clever
@@DeathsHeadNihilism All true. I was young and naïve; Justin was the first 'Idol' I met, so also my lesson not to approach!
It would be awesome to see a bit of what life on tour is like! Hope it is going great!
Thanks! I post all my behind the scenes and more private content over on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/jushawk
Did Justin say his voice is an acquired taste? Holy hell he has some of the most distinct, powerful pipes in the biz.
Live , his voice is out of this world, great rock voice, only does the high bits sparingly I think.
Got my third Darkness album and love it! Watching your videos and learning about you helps me enjoy the music even more.
Enjoy them all in order. Each one is fab.
Thanks!
Thanks Natalia!
One of the best financial decision anyone can make is to key into investing in the vast crypto or stocks market.

smashing it all 💥 €2000 to €21k 🤟
Hey - I've been hearing about Richard for a long time now. Started during the pandemic and I've heard of how accurate his signals is.. I really do appreciate hearing your advice and feel that it is genuine
If we ever get to a point where any kind event with large amounts of people in one place is done virtually, without you even leaving your house, that is when we can say for sure that the conspiracies are true, and we are so under control that we are isolating ourselves to avoid any possible sedition that mass gatherings might inspire.
I know Justin most likely won't read this, and anyone that does probably won't care, but I'm too excited to keep this to myself:
I saw The Darkness last night at Adelaide, and while I'm glad Justin was able get his life back on track, him and the band stayed just the right amount of crazy to make it possibly the most fun concert of my entire life!
You might be surprised, he not only reads the comments here but responds to some too - I discovered if you bung him a couple of quid via the _Thanks_ here he tends to reply, not because he needs the cash but just to acknowledge and appreciate it, top man 😉
He does read the comments, probably not all but he does read them and responds. That's part of the reason I love his channel and his Patreon.
That’s awesome man! I’m unashamedly the same kind of fan… to many bands.
If he won't come to Germany I'll be really really sad.
@Rebecca Johnson.
It's helpful but not 100% necessary to know in depth theory.
Love Love Love Love...Love this video!!!🙏❤️
Not really a fan of the darkness but they are obviously talented musicians and I could listen to Justin talking about music all day
Not a fan either but I too can listen to Justin talk all day. although I did love a tune they did called bareback with no lyrics just great raw sounding guitars
I booked my tickets to the Canberra gig and V.I.P experience for 18th October back in May.. 2 days to go!!!
How cool is it that I live in shittie Canberra and the best rock band in the world come here 😀
I'll be " dancing on a Tuesday night "
I've got ping pong on Wednesday
Archery on Thursday
Thanks for mentioning "The Bends"... been listening to that non-stop while making a game for the past few weeks. Such a great album! Probably one of the best.
the Bends Rules!
Looking forward to seeing you in Sydney tonight!
Love your channel, watch every day!🙂
The advice about melody over riff is golden!
Literally first? You are the best Justin! Much love from Sweden ❤
I love ya more and more Justin. Your honesty and vulnerability are inspiring.
I've smashed 10gb of data watching all these videos back 2 back, brilliant stuff, love it.
Mint mobile has unlimited data for better prices than I’ve seen on other carriers. I sometimes use a terabyte in less than a month (or did before I moved and got internet).
Greetings from Argentina Justin, I love your channel.
Saw you last night in Adelaide, killer show. Glad we went, first concert in a couple years. Saw you guys first time at the BDO 15+ years ago!!
Justin has really grown into this jawline
Loved seeing you in Perth! Best fun Id had in years. Xxxx
Cheers.
Thanks! I've done a video on Jellyfish already!
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain just found it on the channel. Cheers!
Justin, huge fan! I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys in Glasgow with Black Stone Cherry!
Congratulations! 👣💕
What a wonderful description of the creative process as a diary entry. Not too precious, true. That is art.
Seeing the Darkness tomorrow (Brisbane 19th Oct), f' yeah.
Pretty good shit huh. 🤳
In case you missed it they have just released another single, Ego Death, magnificent...
th-cam.com/video/1JNmz17gnMw/w-d-xo.html
They are good. I think Justin just was not getting it, but nice you got introduced.
@@Man_Ray78 Or he did “get it” and didn’t like it regardless. You can just not like something without being accused of “not getting it”.
Yes, thank you from me too! So talented ❤️
Write more songs and find the right guys to commit or , go solo and hired guns if no similar drive is found.
I answered this in yesterday's video!
Great shit Justin. Keep it up!
Justin you're always so forth coming about everything, I always find something to take with me when your show has concluded. Thank you for being you. As far as even thinking about sitting on my buttocks at home to watch a live show WTF No Finging WAY.
No question, but a little VR insight for everybody interested🎸🕶:
TL;DR: Justin is right, we are not quite there yet, but at the same time there is a lot happening in VR research, AR and VR should be seen as a means to expand what is possible in the real world and not so much to "replace reality" + a nice paper regarding a virtual Dire Straits concert
I happen to be a young researcher/PhD student working on social interactions in Mixed Reality (MR), i.e. the spectrum between Augmented (still mainly perceiving the real world with virtual add-ons) and Virtual Reality (mainly perceiving virtual elements).
Wishing you all-time silk-smooth vocal cords from Munich and St Gallen (CH), Daniel

Thanks for that!
Justin - Is that a TH-cam award on that shelf?! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for doing you Justin!
Just seen you play in Sydney on Sunday! Life changing! Thank you sir
I've got a request for a future video. I'm currently watching Betelgeuse and it just occurred to me that it would be awesome if you did one on Danny Elfman. Thanks for the great content as always❤
I could listen to this all day.
Hi Justin, I loved the version of ‘Love Is Not Real’ that you recorded with Eric Nally for Meatloaf. Now far be it from me to malign the mighty Meat but your version is fantastic, much better than how it finally turned out 🤭 Who played on that demo? The bass line and the guitar solo is outstanding. Thanks 👍
Cheers Simon! :)
My take from this video? I’m feeling super lucky that I’ve never been to a show where anyone near me has soiled themself! 😂😂
Hi Justin, just wanted to say that I've just found your channel and have loved the band since i saw you at festival too kings Lynn a few years back.
@@modoZaffa no, festival too is a seperate event
lol for the guitar intro. Heartwarming to know that people with brains are involved in the mainstream music industry.
Your voice is easy to love. Lol, you are a crack up! I have loved your voice and music, your mad guitar playing and everything about The Darkness since I first ever heard you!
I finally saw you at Forum recently! If you heard my voice you’d know how great and likeable yours is! I love to sing though so that won’t stop me 😂❤
Love ya man. Super fan.
Justin, you and this vlog are like an exact combination of herbs and spices... ;) thanx again for more great vibes and candid replies... cheers
don't know why but I keep coming to se you talk and play that amazing ever evolving intro. I like a lot your topics and how you approach them! I used to listened to The Darkness years back and now im starting again because it makes sense hahah! keep the good videos coming!
