Players should be somewhat more accountable, yes. However, the supplement companies need to be held accountable as well. UFC fighter Yoel Romero successfully sued a supplement company for $27 million this year for wages lost due to a suspension he received because of a tainted supplement. Maybe other athletes need to take legal action as well in order to make sure that companies aren't adding these substances to their products.

Happens a lot in mixed martial arts. The UFC has spent a lot of money testing athletes. I believe the biggest problem is having supplements over the counter. FDA doesn’t monitor all these crazy things coming out. I do however agree with athletes need to be very careful on what their taking. It’s 2019 and we have the technology. 👍

The nfl approved list is small therefore players have to make their own decision to take supplements plus it is well known that places that make supplements can cross different products and taint certain supplements to where they show up on a drug test. So player A can take a supplement for 5 years but one batch can come in contact with a different substance that has a banned substance and therefore would show up on a drug test without the player being at fault but still being punished.

  • @happydays6649

I agree with you entirely. You know exactly what you put in your body. The best source of information on this topic is Bisping speaking about it on Joe Rogan's podcast. The guy was in the fight game for over a decade and he said he was not a cautious person. He did not carefully monitor his intake and never failed a test. He said all fighters know when they visit a foreign country to bring their own stuff with them. Bring your own water. Bring your own clothing. Bring your own cleaning products. Trainers will bring guys into camp that will focus on using illegal supplements in small amounts to ensure they can pass a test or it is very deliuted.

  • @Unz360

I been thinking, every team should have some sort of a "supplement expert". When you get something, this person will approve it first. Agree with you, players should do their due diligence either way. It seems crazy that this is still such a problem!

  • @ExpulsoPlayz
    @ExpulsoPlayz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Very similar situation to Shayna Jack, an Australian swimmer who was caught for illegal drug use recently and she claimed she didn't know. Athletes should also try and achieve their dietary requirements from diet and supplementation should be used if its necessary, if there's a different situation like theyre travelling or something. An athlete should never use "I didn't know" as an excuse, and should still face the consequences

Even large ‘regulated’ supplement companies like GNC have been caught with batches of product contaminated with banned substances.
If banned substances have been illegally fortified in a product without consumer knowledge the athlete is definitely not culpable.

Totally agree. I mean, I see soccer moms reading the ingredient list on cereal boxes in the grocery store. I'm sure pro athletes can do the same with their supplements.

I totally agree with the solution and somewhat agree that it’s on them. But look what happened to Robert Mathis back when he was playing for the Colts. He was talking fertility drugs because he and wife were having trouble having kids and he got suspended for 4 games because of it. Could he have went to the team doctors to make sure it was safe? Sure. At the same time. You’d think something as simple as a fertility drug wouldn’t have any type of performance enhancers in it. Right?

In the UK most sportsman are given a list of banned supplements before their respective season starts, so they know where the lands lies, so no excuse for people to know what is legal and what us not.

@@adgee5401 As he mentioned in the video, their entire career is playing sports which requires keeping up with their health. From all the research I have done, I still cant find out was he supposedly took and I am assuming even the NFL still doesnt know. Could you make a video on this? If you know more than I do I would love to know

If they set up a lab for for the players, there would be no reasonable excuse for player that are knowingly taking banned substances for their performance benefit. By not setting up a lab they are using this excuse as damage control - which benefits the players, teams, and NFL as a whole.

  • @rogueleader1173

They have proven that supplements can be tainted. Yoel Romero won a lawsuit against a supplement company that sold him a container of supplements that were legal, but made at the same facility as a banned supplement. Somehow the banned substance made it's way into the supplement and when he used it he pissed hot on a drug test and earned himself a suspension. A court ruled that Romero was not at fault for taking a banned substance. Most athletes know what is supposed to be in the supplements they are taking, but it is the companies responsibility to make a reliable substance.

Multimillion-dollar worth athletes have nutritionists for that, hence there is no excuse. If there were unlabeled banned substances in a supplement, those athletes should sue the supplement companies for 1) putting their health at risk with those substances and 2) career damages and loss of income when they get banned from competition. MMA fighter Yoel Romero did just that and the supplement company was sentenced to pay him $27million. I agree though that athletes should just stick to approved supplements, anything else is (grossly) negligent and they should held accountable.

PED's is so widely used in pro and even amateur sports that they shouldn't be banned. Colleges have steroids programs that they urge their players to use. PED's is the name of the game nowadays, and the injury prevention effects that some PED's have are too good to ignore. Players shouldn't be at fault anymore, because they're so widely used. Unfortunately, a lot of the public still has almost zero knowledge of how steroids/PED's work, and how widely used they are.

The NFL, MLB, UFC, etc should just release their own line of sanctioned supplements for their athletes. That way their athletes get the supplements they need and the organization can validate the accidental claim.
You can either take the supplements provided by us or take a hike. If we make the mistake nothing happens to you, it was on us.
Plus they can market it to the general public and make millions off of it.
