I wonder which is better. Neutralizing gas doesn’t require any setup, but Grafaiai can die or U-Turn and Slaking gets to keep going. Grafaiai also gets Helping Hand, which could be scary

@@verfuncht Grafaiai may be better for slaking but weezing sounds nice for all the dundozo tastuguri and other mons with really good abilities (Goldehngo, murkrow etc.) Abilities are a huge reason a lot of mons are good right now and neutralizing gas could have an interesting effect on the meta game
@@saimmahmood5017 Prankster can be nullified by Dark Types, so a Dark Type could potentially 1-shot a non-sashed Grafaiai, as well as Prankster Taunt from something faster than Grafaiai stops Grafaiai from using Doodle. There's pre-game set-up in choosing when Grafaiai goes out into what's on the field, as well as potentially removing the field threat for Grafaiai to use Doodle. With the prevolence of Murkrow, Grafaiai is in potential Taunting danger if Murkrow ends up faster for whatever situation.
Edit: Actually, Murkrow is a Dark type so it's immune to Grafaiai's own Prankster. So Grafaiai just loses the Murkrow matchup if it has Taunt.
@@verfuncht The thing is that the main purpose of using this move is to over write your ally Pokémon’s ability. And there are abilities can not be Doodled, not mentioning that because of Prankster the move will fail on dark type Pokémon. It’s not too hard for your opponent to bring two Pokémon that can counter this move, and this makes the strategy inconsistent, whether or not the strategy may work relies on your opponent’s team. It’s definitely not better than using Neutralizing gas, but you can argue that if you have the skills to play it right in the circumstances it can be more powerful.

I think the thing about grafaiai is that is has not only prankster, but this ability swap can steal a more useful ability for slaking than most skill swap pokemon would grant. For example, he grabbed flame body in the clip which is pretty solid for a normal type, tanky pokemon. It also acts as a counter to many team builds like an oricorio in a team using dance moves.

I have been trying this out, it only worked once in 10 games. The power creep with the new pokemon is too immense. I even tried choice scarf on the medicham but 3/4 of the current meta Pokémon still out speed. Though, if you DO get it off on the first turn then it’s basically a guaranteed win.
With this, Archaeops can now move on from being “bad” to being “not worth it at all but not inherently terrible.” Good for them ❤

The problem with Galatians wheezing is that it neutralizes abilities. Not changes them. Because once wheezing dies slaking is useless again, whereas grafaiai (or however it’s written) changes the ability of slaking making him strong even when the grafaiai isn’t on the field

Not only that. This means Slaking can get an ability that makes him unstoppable. Imagine it with something like Huge Power/Speed Boost/Scrappy
If Grafaiai can live three turns then this is is possible.
Huge Power Azumarill with grafaia get sent out, so turn 1 is just switching it.
Turn 2 send out Slaking and give him the ability, then turn three use Slaking and maybe send out a different pokemonas support.
@@Tigery760 that's not how that works (or you need to clarify). Doodle works like Role Play (not skill swap), overriding the user's ability - not switching it.

Fun fact: Slaking was banned in Balanced Hackmons precisely because of this kind of shenanigans. It was banned long BEFORE regigigas.
It sounds good on paper, but having fought more than enough of these slaking sets, i can tell you, they arent worth it. Losing a turn or two to set him up isnt too bad, but hes easily walled by pokemon like toxapex and orthworm, and even failed to take down my abomasnow with no boosted defences.
This and the fish duo make me really wish there were more than 4 double battles in the entire story...
I wish Gamefreak would pull a XD Gale of Darkness and give us an entire game of double battles.
Like, it bothers me how much gamefreak wants to make "VGC competitive" easily accessible and yet they still rely on lazy, easy single battles throughout the story.
Why not train players and teach them how double battles work so they can be properly prepared for the online post game?
This would slow the game down soooo much though. Like I love a lot of the battle system changes in SV but holy hell accidentally random encountering a mon that was 1 inch tall so I didn’t see it slows down my enjoyment of the game because of the time it takes to start the battle and then run. And the different battle effects take sooo long to play out. If every battle was against 2 Pokémon oh jeez that increases the time taken to beat almost every trainer.

The idea of fully removing traunt rather then just switching the mon, we've seen skill swap used before but it still leaves you at a disadvantage for a bit while this would be a single turn of fixing it
@@outofideasexe You know what can also remove Truant in a single turn? Gastro Acid, a move that has existed since Gen 4. And yes, this strategy is overall better, but it is definitely nothing new.

Weezing with neutralizing gas(disables all abilities) should also help slaking a lot, but I guess changing his ability is better than removing it.
Gamefreak genuinely hates pokemon fans.
- designs pokemon around double battles
- makes competitive pokemon all doubles
- only includes 3 double battle trainers in the entirety of the base game, and they all exist within a single gym.
The fact that you have to pay an extra $35 just to play double battles in the DLC, (Edit: and / or purchase nintendo online) is the biggest kick in the teeth ive ever seen a fanbase willingly take.

A simple switch-out will return Grafaiai 's Prankster. It's a bit of an inconvenience, but easy enough to fix.
Then that also means red card or whirlwind/aqua tail will change slaking ability back
You mean the opposite? An aiai wit prankster can't hit armor tail
There's Ability Shield as well as Parting shot which resets Prankster.
Imagine if your opponent had an Azumarill and you gave Slaking Huge Power.

It's always hard to pull off these strats because of redirection, fake out, non-prankster so you can die before it goes off. Inconsistent but pays off super well if you get it.
@@DanBlabbers you can. It can't be overwritten by simple beam, worry seed, or entrainment though. Probably because all three of those allow you to completely remove Truant with an ability you know it'll be replaced with without any downsides. Skill Swap you can also plan the ability to replace it with, but it comes with the downside of Truant just moving to a different Pokemon of yours (if you're going the planned route). And I think Grafaia's is allowed because you DONT know what ability you'll be getting, which kind of balances it out
