    I too, love this headphone. I have owned the 109 Pro for about eight months now and at this point into this hobby I think that if I could keep just one pair of headphones, this would be that single one. I have a couple of more expensive pairs (Audeze LCD-2, LCD-X), most of the 600 Series Sennheiser's, as well as some wonderful cans from Focal, DCA, HiFiMan and some others. I try my best to rotate them all into my listening much as I have always gone on extended binges of listening to different bands. I agree with your assessment of the 109 Pro 100%. It's not a bass head lover's dream headphone but what it offers I certainly don't find deficient. It's plenty punchy to my 62 year old ears. I also appreciate having a bit more sizzle on the top end because my ears haven't been especially pampered over the decades. I don't know, I just find myself calling out "WOW" a lot when I listen to them. The sound stage is wide enough to surprise me at times but the imaging is spectacular. And of course, the 109 Pro is just such a stunningly gorgeous work of art in my opinion, combining a beautiful aesthetic with superb build quality and comfort. Honestly I think it's about as good a headphone as most audio enthusiasts really would ever truly need.

    Treble emphasis can be easily reduced with EQ or covering the drivers with foam discs.

    Affordable is relative and there are good headphones in every price bracket, down the cheap end you have Moondrop Quarks DSP, a bunch of KZ earphones, some KOSS headphones and many more gems. At least the Meze 109 Pro is built like an expensive headphone, I have some more expensive ones from Hifiman that aren't built half as well.

    I switched from HiFiMan Edition XS to Meze 109 Pro because I wanted the comfort I knew Meze offers and the carrying case. When I initially wore the Meze 109, they were floating on my head, not light, but undeniably comfortable.
    The problem I had was that I was not blown away by the sound as much as I was by the XS, probably because the first upgrade was from Razer Kraken to XS and then the seconds from XS to 109 Pro, but I felt a significant difference in the audio.
    The XS had this amazing soundstage that made me stop and look around to check if the sound was from them or my room. The clarity was insane for my first Hi-Fi headphones.
    I'm still getting used to the sound signature of Meze though, I love it, don't get me wrong. It's an acquired taste that I slowly learn to absolutely love.

    Love them too, except for the loose fit you also mention. I own the several times more expensive Focal Utopia 2022 and the 109 are almost as good. I recommend using them with Meze silver XLR upgrade cables, gives more flesh to the sound.

    from your review and comments below i think i will upgrade from the Classic 99. I listen mostly to classical piano and orchestra so while genre has not been really discussed if someone could comment on the handling for specific use for listening to Bach on piano not organ or later Beethoven etc then that would give me an idea how the high treble of this headset handles these bass chords and upper voices etc.

    I share your enjoyment of the 109 pro. I agree pretty much with everything you have said about it. I would highlight the fact that the headphones can be driven by just about anything.Iit is bright in the way that you say, and the stock cables are mediocre as you say, but my criticism is of their sound quality, not so much the feel. I have bought 2 cables for my pair of 109s, the pricier one, Audio Art HPX-1SE which is a substantial and less flexible 4' cable brings clarity and dimensionality across the frequency spectrum and importantly to the upper mids and the treble. This clarity makes listening to tracks that are already bright, far more enjoyable, and reveals more subtle resolution when listening to more evenly balanced mixes.The other is a very flexible 10' cable, the Hart Custom Dual 3.5mm matched for the 99 & 109 pro. Its performance is similar to the Audio Art cable, and noticeably better than the stock cable. I have a couple of DAC/Amps which produce quite different responses in the bass. I have started to use EQ to good effect. I feel that some of the less than positive reactions to the 109's I have read, stem from the poor performing stock cables. I bought my pair of 109's as an open box from Audio 46 for $640. They were immaculate. The Audio Art cable was a demo cable and the Hart relatively inexpensive, so total my outlay was $900. I am very pleased with this cost to performance ratio and add my recommendation for what it's worth. Lastly, because the 109 is a very open, open back, I sometime have some fun listening to them in my listening space with just the subwoofer of my speaker system (Genelec) turned on and that produces pretty pleasing bass response!

    • @MOWFWDU

      @@kawaiipotato7513 Headphone cables carry an analogue signal and this is a headphone cable. By the way, even in a cable that carries digital information, (the 1s and 0s) are carried by an analog square wave. Timing errors and Interference from RFI and EMI will distort the wave form. Your proposition comes from a lack of understanding.

    Just ordered these today. Also; the build quality alone....leather, dark walnut, high end and expensive alloys, superb design, superb sound, assembly....sure mate, this sould be 300 dollars .../facepalm. The only reason that these are not 1200 as the reviewer said is the fact they are built in Romania, at significantly lower labor cost but still enviable levels of expertise.

    They're a fun pair and look simply amazing, but I recently compared them with HD700, T1.2 and NDH-30 and noticed how muffled and undetailed the Meze was in comparison. I didn't notice it at all before direct comparison, but they were relatively lo-fi for the price which is kinda Mezes thing as in putting major effort into design and materials and a bit less so into sound quality.

    I ended up selling mine because I found the fit to be really poor for me, they kept sliding down my head and would make a loud metallic resonance sound when chewing or alike. I should have probably tried bending the headband inwards to increase clamp force, maybe that would have fixed those deal breakers for me.

      I own both, and love both A LOT. They're pretty different to me. If I want fast, clean, detailed sound, then I use my Ananda Nanos. If I want a liquid, v-shaped, musical sound, I will grab my 109 Pros. Both are excellent. However I will say the Nanos are far better for gaming and 109 Pros are built better and look better too.

    • @MajorHiFi
      @MajorHiFi  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Really love both, might like the 109 Pro a bit more likely because of my attachment to it through ownership - but will likely end up getting the Nano in the next month or two. They're both going for very different sounds. Think the 109 has an exemplary tuning and timbre built around a warm mid range, the nano for a cold mid range. Generally speaking think @toraow gave a good gist of it. Wouldn't quite describe the 109 as V-shaped but, eh, we're both pretty much saying the same thing.

    • @toraow
      @toraow ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MajorHiFi yeah the 109 Pros aren't exavtly v-shaped, but the warmth + upper treble peaks make it seem that way to me

    • @MrPassiontea
      @MrPassiontea 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I had the Nano but returned them to try the 109. The comfort is terrible for extended use for me with the Ananda Nano. Sound quality is good for music but for gaming and movies I thought they sucked because they don't have the same punch of dynamic drivers at lower volumes and at medium-higher volumes (about 80 dba) the treble is way too harsh. I think the 109 will be good for me since they have a similar tuning to the nano (harmon curve), should have more punch at lower volume and hopefully much better comfort and build quality. I'll sacrifice a little detail for comfort. It's important if you're wearing them more than an hour at a time.
