Focal EVO X 4 are my favorite here then Splendor and Dali. Focal’s sometimes get labeled as on the bright side but this comparison shows that isn’t the case, as the Focal’s are clearly warmer than most in this comparison.

I agree. No doubt a lot gets lost in transit from source, and much depends on the unit's environmental needs, but my listening gear (with AKG K712 Pro) says the Focal Evo X N*4 wins this contest. To my taste, beautifully balanced with oodles of ambience. Each track leaves you wanting more.

I pretty much agree with you. Although I placed Spendor 1 and Forte 2. Dali is the value leader. Also, I've heard the La Scala and they sound much better in person like you said. I think those speakers are very amplifier dependent because of their high sensitivity.

Track 1. Dali impressive, Kilpsh Forte less glare than the rest, Monitor Audio, most vocal projection. But best all rounder, Spendor. Track 2. Again Dali i mpressive, but Spendor has greater dynamics. Track3. Again Dali, but Spendor making more sense of the music. So Spendor for me, but I could easily live with the Dali.

Spendor surprised the hell out of me! I really enjoyed it a lot. After that it was the Scala, they are intoxicating. I could live with either but the Spendor is about $5k cheaper, although for the extra $5k i think you are just getting a much more being there feeling than all the other speakers. IMHO Monitor Audio and the Klipsch RP600 were the last of the class.

If you make the speakers (shown) with the open baffle med and tweeter on a boxed woofer, try this:
A completely open 5" FR driver mounted on top of a boxed woofer! Slope the FR driver back how you like it, so it's not so in your face. Use lots of Blue Tack or plasticine to quickly mount the open driver on top of the box (to experiment). With mine, I'm sometimes hearing voices in my room, that I mistake as an actual person and I jump out of my skin. Once a very low jet passed over our house, and I looked out the window for a few seconds, but the "jet" was from my speakers (a meter from me). I built some speakers for my friend, and once he had his phone beeping madly and he fumbled with it for a few seconds, thinking it was the phone but it was from the speakers (three meters away). The sounds from my speakers are coming from nowhere! 😅

I don't think I can be totally objective here since I actually own a pair of Dynaudio Evoke 50, not in walnut but in gloss white. What I will say is this, for those who know Dynaudio would know their speakers are not trying to wow you immediately right off the bat which is why they will almost never win any back-to-back A-B group tests. The Evoke 50 is no different, it is a pair of speakers that will grow on you. If you want something that has a super energetic top end, the Evoke 50 or any other Dynaudio models for that matter will not be for you. But, if you are the type who enjoys long listening sessions, then the more you listen to them the more you will like them. You will never have listening fatigue of any sort. In terms of sound characteristics, the Evoke leans a tad on the warm side of things and it comes with a ton of bass with great punch for its size. In fact, if you are currently considering the Evoke range, unless your room is absolutely tiny, take the Evoke 50, in my humble opinion it is the gem of the entire line-up. Forget about the Evoke 30, the 50 gives a much bigger sense of scale. Another point to note is pending on what genres of music you listen to, you could chose to lighten up the warmth a little to add transparency and separation with careful system matching such as via a an amp that leans bright for example Moon by Simaudio or an external DAC that leans bright, say with Sabre chips.

Fun video! I went to the store to buy the Fortes, but then listened to the new Focal 4s on a whim and went home with them. This video substances (for me and my ears) my decision to go with the Focals…
The La Scalas,, overall, should not be on this list. They are another level (even though the bass is a bit subdued on some of the tracks for my taste, but not like what critics say…they still deliver; but the soundstage, mids and upper clarity on those are nuts, so I’ll just pretend like they were not in the shootout).
The vocals on the Fortes are superb. They sound great everywhere else.
But the Focals, to me, as they did on in the show room, do EVERYTHING well; they have a faster and more thunderous bass, more sparkle and clarity in the top end, fuller presence without being overly detailed or dry, and a better soundstage. Again, just my opinion. I still love the Fortes and can’t afford La Scalas, but for me, the Focals are a “Goldilocks” speaker. Right in the middle of spectrum. Not too colored, not too dry, just lively enough.
The Klipsch RP6000s are definitely the best overall “value”; if money is an issue, they are really really good.

In some tracks, I'd prefer one, but change my priority with another track. I will have to compare these two "in the flesh". Both are superb. Could probably live happily with either. Nice Work Very Appreciated..It's a real toss up for Me i would say the Spendor is the most natural sounding, the Dali the best all around - Probably my overall pick, the Dynaudio for anyone who prefers a warmer more neutral sound. followed by the Focals. the rest i really didn't care for.

  • @AbsoluteFidelity
    @AbsoluteFidelity 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Which clown tells you Focals are bright speakers do not know whatv they are talking about. Its clear there are way brighter, harsher and painful sounding loudspeakers on this list. RP6000, Bronze 50 6G are the worst offenders on this list, followed by the Dali which can sound rather bright with vocals. The Dalis are meant to be listened with zero toe in though. The bad thing with Focal here is the lower frequencies which can bleed into the mids and I feel this might be attributed to the room. The Spendor is clear and midcentric, something I get with the Q Acoustics 5040 which applies a dip around the 200 - 500hz region. The other 2 Klipsch are just too coloured and they depend heavily on what you are going to be listening to. The Dynaudio is just warm warm warm which some people would love. I choose the Focals for overall sound, with corrected lower frequency.

Great video i enjoyed listening to all the speakers and then listening to my own system. Some feedback would be to eventually upgrade the microphone you are using to pick up all the bass frequencies and that can resolve a lot more detail. I know youtube compresses the quality a bit but i think a better microphone would really help with comparisons like this.

The Forte seemed to have a larger soundstage (or whatever my brain perceived as a larger soundstage.) Otherwise, I personally wouldn't peruse the higher end Klipsch's. Speaker taste is just as subjective as musical tastes, as we all know.
I wish you would have Monitor Audio Golds or at least Silvers to demo. I have a secondary 2 channel rig with Silver 7G book shelves which are very very good. (The winner of my personal 13 pair of speaker shoot out.)
Very interesting exercise none the less. Subbed.

I can only laugh at audiophiles and conocieurs arguing or scolding people online cause they say they prefer the sound a certain speaker provides. It’s like someone saying you can’t tell the diference in voices when two different people are talking or that you can’t tell the difference between Michael Jackson and James Brown. For sure there are certain details you will only be able to tell by listening to the speaker directly, but in general you can definitely notice some difference in tonality and prefer the sound the speaker emits even through your headphones. By the way sound is as subjective as fragrances and so much more things in life. Some people like very bright speakers, some like them warm and other love pure bass. It all depends on taste. So you should buy what you like, not what other tell you is the best.

Benim için klipsch rp6000 güzel seçenek. Çünkü orta ve üst frekanslardaki parlaklık benim hoşuma gidiyor. Ve subwoofer ile desteklendiginde bence daha keyifli bir dinleme sunuyor.

    1. Dynaudio Evoke 50, 2. Focal Evo X N°4, 3. Dali Oberon 7 (bright), 4. Spendor D7.2 (sound focused on mid tones), 5. Klipsch La Scala (No sub-bass and strange upper bass but naturally flowing sound), 6. Klipsch RP6000 Fll (shouty, no sub-bass), 7. Klipsch Forte (unnatural sound) 8. Monitor Audio Bronze 50 6G (piercing).

Thanks for excellent comparisons. Shows up speaker's pros and cons for each type of music. They are all good. For me Focal is the most expressive even though here the bass is boomy. Voices are not as present, guitar not as piercing so for me more listenable generally. 2nd is Klipsh Forte IV. My ears have become very sensitive to Sibilance and upper edge.

My choice: LaSacala for deep concert bass and & Splendor D7.2 for better clarity per TH-cam sounds. Probably would sound different in real demo

The La Scala's sound so life like 😱 Also, the Dali Oberon's sounded great! Good bass from the Forte's but not the best mid-highs imo. Granted, I am listening through airpods so 🤷‍♂

Interesting how the responses differ. Why NO one speaker is perfect for everyone. I heard several small details in the Lascalla that were not as apparent in the others but very impressed with Dali as well.

I compared them all with the original file on TH-cam, no one sounds good 🤔 Maybe the placement of your microphones ? If you're recording from the listening place, to much of the room (even well treated) will be picked up. My 2 cent...

      @lowkeyoperations 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree too. It sounds like the microphones were sitting in slightly different nulls. There was not much bass and sounded phased. The bookshelf comparison sounded a lot better to me. I think perhaps the video an recording shows that the room is often the limiting factor

1 - spendor & klipsch 6000; 2 - klipsch forte; 3 - focal & dynaudio; 4 - dali; 5 - monitor audio; 6 - La Scala)) But 1st pair need a subwoofer. Some comments: 1 - clear balanced, dynamics, lacks of low end. 2 - very good on live stuff, rock, but not so clean sound. 3 - too boomy on midbass. 4 - good woofers, clean and a bit too bright highs...but their conjunction is not good, sounds like they need additional small midrange. 5 - just doesn`t impress, shouty harsh upper-mid, "stright in face" performance. 6 - lots of mudd, boxiness in all spectrum

Lots of good sounds here.... really hard to say after carefully listening which is the best. I wish you had placed them in order of cost from low to high. That way we could see the benefits or lack there of when going up in price point. Least fav was the klipsch 6000. I appreciated the dali 7 for shooting above its price point. The evoke 50 has a mellow laid back sound signature. Focals were middle of the pack. Wish the dali oberon 9 were included instead of the klipsch 6000. The forte needed to be closer to wall for that bass radiator to have an effect. The MA bronze were in my top 3 also.

Please include the associated gear (streamer, dac, amp). Thank you for all your hard work to bring us these great demo comparisons.Koris hi-fi retail seems to be a great store and very cooperative. None of these speakers are to my taste (too boxy sound, not enough airy detail imaging), but of these eight the Dali Oberaon and Focal are slightly better than the other six.
A much better speaker at similar prize to the Focal are KEF R11 meta. They deliver great airy imaging, tight bass, and clean transparent midrange. Of course your Qualio IQ wipes the floor against any of these. Thanks again.

    I prefere the Bronze 500's.
They have better/ punchier bass, and the balance I like.
Then, Dalis, Focals, Forte in shared second place.
    Dynaudio, Spendor, third place
    Klipsch 6000 in forth place.
La Scala's I do not like at all, too bright, no foundation/ bass. They will probably sound amazing with a sub (or more🙊). I can hear how open and detailed they are, but that does not matter when the bass is gone.
    Thanks for your work😊
