For me, Toyota nailed the design and mechanical updates to the new Land Cruiser. It's just too bad that the engine choice is just one diesel here in Europe. But still, for me, this is king of proper 4X4 ;) Great video keep it up :D
Yes, for some reason Toyota has decided that we in Europe are only getting the LC250 with the 2,8 L diesel. And the funny part is: due to international limitations on diesel/petrol emissions, they have to sell a certain amount of hybrides, before this new model with the "old" diesel can be sold on the markets where only the diesel is going to be offered! The USA have got nearly all the hybrids, and Australia has got nearly all the diesels so far! In Norway, where I live, we won`t even see the diesel powered LC250 before Toyota has sold enough hybrids in the USA and other markets that get the hybrid. A strange situation! The dealerships in Norway haven`t got 250 series cars in their show rooms, not to mention cars for test driving. Why don`t they then offer the hybrids in Norway and in the rest of Europe in the first place? That would make sense. For the time beeing, we in Norway have to rely on the American and Australian reviews on the LC250 - we still don`t have these cars in our country. No other LC model has been launched on the world market in such a strange way. And the rivals in UK and USA still continue to pump out 4x4s with big 6 and 8 cylindre petrol engines as nothing has happened. Is Toyota going to "save the world climate" alone??

It seems to me that there there are only two reasons for choosing a Land Cruiser over a Defender 110. One is the international dealer coverage by Toyota which is only really relevant in some market regions. The other and the main one is the relative reliability reputation of the two brands. However, the current 3.0litre engines in the Defender has at least as good a reputation as current Toyota diesel and petrol engines. I would almost class this Land Cruiser more with the VW Amarok and Ford Ranger pickups rather than the 110 in both performance, refinement, equipment provision and even comfort and handling. It is more compact than those pickups of course which may be important to some, particularly for town parking. For more road use there are far better cars, such as the VW Touareg or even a Skoda Kodiak, bearing in mind that the Touareg can tow 3.5 tons while the Kodiak cannot.
I don`t quite like the verdict over the predecessor, the 150 series. Of course, it has been capable off road. Of course, it has been a bit more rough on road than the Range Rovers and Land Rovers. And of course, the interior from 2009 was a bit outdated in 2023. But it was solid, sturdy and reliable! The value and purchase cost of a LandCruiser lies in these build qualities; not in pure luxury for its own sake, fancy design, a refinement in road abilities on sleek, paved roads, big 6 or 8 cylindre engines or high tech features that will break down easily and cause huge repair bills. In UK, one always tends to compare the LC to the own british national icons; the Range Rovers and the Land Rovers. They are really opposites to the LandCruisers, in terms of the parametres I´ve mentioned. The British tend to underestimate the reasons, why people would buy and drive a LC rather than a Range/Land Rover. Look at the second hand value on the market for used cars; then you will understand! You also tend to compare the most expensive, refined british icons with the light duty 150/250 series; not with the equivalents from Toyota, the LC300 and the Lexus LX600. Or the Lexus GX550. That would be more fair. In this review, you seem to forget that the 150 series already had a split tail gate from the beginning in 2009. It also had DAC and Multi Terrain Select. In the years 2011-15, it had a stronger 3,0 L engine with a far bigger turbo. And it had more space in the second and third seat row than the new 250 series, which is a result of many compromises. Personally I drive a 2011 LandCruiser 150 series with a massive amount of kilometers on the odometer. It still drives like new, after 14 years beeing abused on Norwegian "roads" that everywhere else in Europe would be defined as "off road"! Oh, yes; it clearly lacks the on road refinement of the Range/Land Rovers, the interior is clearly "dated" and it has no big, fat, fast and thirsty 6 or 8 cylindre engine. But it still gets the job done in a secure, effective, effortless manner, with a certain amount of comfort. This could hardly be done after so many years and kilometers with a Range/Land Rover - without major issues and repair costs. And I still can sell the LC150 in Norway for about 35 000 pounds! These are the reasons why I never would drive any RR or LR for more than three years... My first LC, a 90 series 3,0 L, was driven for 25 years and 350 000 kilometers without problems. I sold it for a relatively high price - and it is still on the road, now driving secure and sturdy with over 400 000 km on the odo. The LC delivers, in the matters that really count in the long run. Please keep this in mind by the comparisons!
So ok, a reasonable review, but, and this is my big gripe with motoring correspondents, could you please stop calling what is essentially a UV an SUV. In this review, it is presented as a totally new feature, but it has in fact been around for 16 years. The big LandCruisers (the 60/80/100/200 series) had the full split tail gate from 1979-80. BMW knows nothing about split tail gates, apart from those that Toyota and several American brands developed decades ago. On the US market, Toyota also has models with a rear glass that disappears down into the rear panel in the back door when you push a button...
The UK has the best version of the new Land Cruiser, - Diesel - No battery eating space like in Australia - No 4 cyl turbo hybrid like in NA - They have a usable trunk!!!!!!! I don't get why wouldn't toyota give this option all over the place.
I don't think that ISIS, Boko Haram or Hizbullah care about ride comfort. Because those are the biggest customers for this car. Toyota sells a car that suits its customers' needs.

He is clearly no Toyota fan. As a non-british, I can through the whole review notice this british undertone saying "it is not as good as our own Range Rovers and Land Rovers". British car reviews tend to be like that, unfortunately. For Britain, the best suitable cars have to be the British produced cars, isn`t that so? How many areas do you have with really rough and tough gravel roads? That you have to cope with on a daily basis? How many icy, slippery, steep and dangerous mountain roads? Do you really need a solid, very sturdy 4x4 as the LandCruiser, or do you drive mostly on sleek, paved roads where the Range/Land Rovers are better, more comfortable, luxurious and not so disturbed by technical break downs as when they are challenged by severe heat, cold, snow, ice, rugged roads and trails. That is: if you mainly drive on paved roads and only need a very comfortable, big vehicle with a certain amount of power, high tech, luxury and status (and intend to keep it for only a few years); drive a Range Rover or Land Rover. Otherwise; buy a LandCruiser and drive it everywhere for 20-25 years. It is so simple - and so difficult - as that!

I bet that's fun carrying 7 with a 3 ton trailer on the back
where are we in spain?
We - you were there, you should know, surely?
Morocco.
minus V6 engine, its just a tempo carrier
There is Lexus GX if you are really interested :)
Damned with faint praise.
2.4 even with turbo is underpowered for SUV like this.
V6 would be great, V8 even better.
The UK has the best version of the new Land Cruiser,
- Diesel
- No battery eating space like in Australia
- No 4 cyl turbo hybrid like in NA
- They have a usable trunk!!!!!!!
I don't get why wouldn't toyota give this option all over the place.
South Africa has the same engine choice as in the UK but with 18 inch wheels and 7 seats. Not sure why they would fit 20’s for the UK.
I like it 😄,, can't afford it,, but I like it,,, 😆
Welcome to morroco
8:27 MASSIVE???
I don't think that ISIS, Boko Haram or Hizbullah care about ride comfort. Because those are the biggest customers for this car. Toyota sells a car that suits its customers' needs.
Prado is good car but silly design before better
70-series?
A Tiida removed that middle bumb years ago. Why are cars still doing that? 🤔🙄🚶♂️🚶♂️
This Landcruiser might not be as luxurious or comfortable as a Landrover, but it is reliable unlike the Land/Range rover that might break down within a month after you bought it....
Are you sure it's reliable? Check recall data :)
Under powered 4 cylinder engine, slow and poor on road only for off roaders imo and expensive for such a poor engine. its a no from me.
I still think the old land cruiser was far better looking
70-series or earlier?
Really useful for our pot hole infested roads!
the 250 prado is overated. the 150 prado is superior mechanically. removing the rear tyre from the boot and ruining the fuel range aint it. its like a fortuner now with better interior.
toyota fan reviewing toyota
Designed by an ex-Land Rover employee?
I like it :)
Seen 2 on the road now and must say I'm shocked at how bad they really look. Must be mad to buy, Toyota you have lost the plot I feel.

...now you want a ROTARY dial???
After all the journalists complained.
Just a pity the defenders are so unreliable
Is it a real problem if you are using the car in Europe? :)
Buy this one in the Netherlands: it will cost you €180.000 !!!!
It's more clever to have a bike there, it's great!
It’s not a Land Cruiser. Youl have to jump to Lexus for that experience.
Rubbish vehicle, poor interior design.
it feels like you been paid by toyota for this video 😢
With that price I will buy a used Mercedes G class
Just to impress the girls near night club? :)
Toyota is circling the drain.
Toyota tax😢
made of pig iron and technology from the 90s, sure it wont break, but what can break, ill stick to the Land Rover, better off road, better on the road and thats worth an extra 1K a year in maintenance.
Land Rover hands down one of the least reliable car makers out there. And I owned two defenders just to make sure.
@@typhoon-7 We went on a 3 week off road trip to the Balkans. The only cars (of the 8) that had problems were the two Land Rovers. Engine overheating, transmission issues, etc. Nuff said.
@@TL-xw6fh my last defender (110 TD5) stranded me after dumping all its fluids on a road in the middle of winter. Whilst sitting waiting recovery I realised my love affair with Land Rover was over. I divorced them there and then and literally went out the next day and bought a Hilux. An older one, not a new one. It has taken all the abuse you can think of on and off road and round the farm doing everything. And everything on it still works like new. Literally everything. I'm keeping an eye on this Grenadier though.... It's tempting although too early to know about long term reliability.
