If my translation is correct, "Stay with us for it will be evening." Karl makes this Cantata a prayer.

Poor Richetr, it is certain that he had no idea how 18th-century music should be played.

They is no should in music, it's a matter of taste.
Richter made some musical decisions, now some musicians make other musical decisions. Every musicians can explain why thay make these decisions, but every musical decisions is arbitrary.

@@williamfossardo6052 I am not interested in Richter's taste, but in the artistic and historical dimension of a composer born four centuries ago. Richter lived in a time when the performer was considered the most important character. Today, fortunately, a different approach is followed and no one interprets Bach without regard for the means of expression and technique of his time.

@@Astor962 The performer is one of the most important character, without him no music. You can be interested in imitation of bach music of his time, no problem. Richter was not a poor guy because he was not interested in this kind of musical approach. You chosed that you prefer this kind of musical choice, Richter chosed others.

@@williamfossardo6052 The performer must respect the text. In his performances, Richter used English horns instead of oboe d'amore, transverse flutes instead of recorders, and much more: this is not a matter of taste, but arbitrariness and disservice to the music. As for the choices, nobody plays Bach's music in this style anymore: there must be a reason.

@@Astor962 Nobody plays Bach on modern instruments ? Are you sure ?
Richter used recorder on some cantatas, because he searched less power in the sound.
Instruments evolve with new manufacturing techniques. Saying that playing some Bach on a flute instead a recorder is like a treason to the musical text seems a little arrogant. We know that Bach loved to try and discover new instruments and sonorities, he would have try other size of ensemble etc... Bach was a genuis because he try new things.
