The band was formed in 1963 and, despite the name, not in Boston, but in Burbank, California. Their only album was released in 1968 on the Flick Disc Records label, which is famous for releasing albums by only three bands (these records are highly prized by collectors). The album is very cool to listen to - fuzz guitar, great vocals and heavy Hammond. Guitarist Mike Stevens wrote most of the original and very poetic material. Keyboardist Robert DePerna and drummer Dave Novogroski created the hard sound of "The Boston Tea Party". The vocals of Travis Fields, who also wrote some of the material, attract the listener with his personal charm. At their shows, the band dressed up in costumes from 1775. Wonderful group!
Sprinkled with Los Angeles sunshine psych throughout. "Time Being" is a psych anthem, the heaviest psych track on the album. I'm having a Boston Tea party this afternoon.
