Found this album in my dad's record collection in 1977 when I was 16. He had no clue as to why he even had it, cause it def wasn't his style. I was hooked ever since. I'm 58 now

I believe, you never heard anything like this before, the band personified, this music, I'm almost positive, I was blown away by the sound and guitarist, and Ozzy was incredible, the drummer was underrated, this music is the key to heavy metal, as it was being born!

I can remember bringing this album to school I had bought it because of the cover names of the songs I had never heard Sabbath when the teacher saw it I was sent to the principals office but I did not go and went home. The teacher never asked what the principal said and I did not volunteer any information.
That's hilarious. Sounds like something that would have happened to me but my history with this album was a bit different (maybe just as funny). A friend at school told me about the album and said it was at the library. I got my first library card just to take out this album. I didn't have my own stereo yet so I played it on my sister's record player (an orange and white colored piece of junk. little kiddies toy). My mother was cooking dinner in the kitchen and it sounded like she dropped something in the sink and then she came into the room and said what was that? I had found a pair of headphones and was just plugging them in. I told her it was a record I got at the library and she suggested I take it back. I said yeah that's what I'm going to do and I ended up listening to the whole album with headphones. I don't know how long after this I tried stealing the album from a store and got caught (another long story) so I never actually owned the album after all that. First Sabbath album I actually owned was Master Of Reality.

In 6th grade in art class the teacher would play albums and said he'd play ours , so brought we sold our souls to rock and roll album and when war pigs came on all the girls said it scared them so he had to take it off . end up playing Jeff Beck and the Jan hammer live album witch was good .

TONI I. WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME AS A BLUES ;METAL GUITARIST. HE IS A INSPIRATION TO ME AS A GUITARIST. AND MANY MORE. CLASSIC HEAVY AND ACTUALLY JAZZY AT TIMES AS WELL. PERFECT SOUND.
As you may know he was inspired by the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt who like Iommi had a damaged hand

I wish I could find some music like the beginning part, before Ozzy starts singing I guess it's a Jew's Harp, or a GewGaw, among other names. And the guitar. I could find nothing that sounds anything like that. It reminds me somehow of water, the way it splashes, ripples and echos.

Ok I won't around when this hit but I rocked this on 8 - track - and who the fuck can z say that - and also I was banging my bad ass girl friend 20 + feet in the air in a tree house with Christmas lights and what ever else you can imagine had a couple pot plants on hand also had to every no and again hit the skip track button to continue to the next song - damn wish I could go back bout 85 -86

This is the roots of heavy metal. First time I heard thist was in 1969 when my older brother bought it. I was 8 years old and it scared me lol. By the time I hit my teen years they were a favourite band of mine. Still listen to them often.

@@clintclower7604 No, not b/s. It was a cover of a song recorded by 'Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation' in 1967 (long before he joined Journey), and writing credits are Dunbar/ Dmochowski/ Hickling/ Moorshead.
The very first UK pressings omitted the writing credit's for both 'warning' and the cover of Crow's 'Evil Woman...'.

From what I know, the Beatles still aren't playing, Zepplin doesn't do much, the new kids of rock just don't have that Genuine Classic sound. 13 was even great, Now Ozzy is defying all logic and has a new album coming, and he's been solo for close to 40 years. I Love the Beatles, But Ozzy and The Sabs Still played on after reuniting.

There was on the north american releases, and evil woman and wicked world were left off.
+Live Wire ... You're correct -- and I've heard both the European and North American releases, but there is no actual song entitled: "A Bit of Finger" on either. For whatever reason, some of the North American releases had track listings for songs that did not exist: the first record had "Wasp" and "A Bit of Finger"; Paranoid had "Luke's Wall" and "Jack the Stripper"; Volume 4 had "The Straightener" and "Under the Sun". People will argue that these are "Intros and Extros", but I am not buying that, lol.
Yeah, you've got a point, John. I've always wondered why they did that, if sabbath was the only band that did, if it was the band's decision or the producer's or the record company. Some are obviously intro/extro/transitional pieces like "bassically", but some like "a bit of finger" are much more obscure or non-existent. Either way, it's a very artistic album and therefore open to interpretation. Maybe that's the point.
