honestly wasn't expecting it but this has become my current favorite fishing channel, ya'll just pump out bangers and i've learned a fair bit about lure choice
Loved seeing the handle spin on every cast! I remember my first baitcaster. The backlash per cast ratio was pretty high! Anytime the 2 of you fish together it's a great video. May you both have a great and safe Christmas. (You know, I don't understand MOST of the folks who watch TH-cam videos. How can you "follow" and watch almost every video put out on a channel, but not subscribe, but worse than that, you consistently watch but don't "like" the videos. Don't get it. Maybe you should include a short "how TH-cam content providers make a living and get paid" section on your next video. You have what looks like 102 thousand subscribers, but so few likes. That's worse than the backlash per cast ratio of that 100 year old baitcaster!)
I remember finding a Shakespeare 5 foot ocean rod with a matching bait caster from 50s or 60s that I put 80 pound monofilament that I used twice at a local pond to try to go after turtles. Bought it for 10 dollars at a flee market and spent about 40 bucks on the tackle for it. Never caught anything with it and kept it for a few years, sold to a random guy at Iowa lakes for about 80 bucks and he caught a 30 lb softshell turtle a hour later.
Yo bro use your thumb as a line guide moving the line back and forth on the spool as you reel it In to keep line even and it won't backlash as much kinda like a deep sea rod
They do have there own charm. The rod is as you seen medal and the reel seat and handle is cast aluminum with cork. The reel is a Pflueger Trump no.1943 but the one I have has a anti back lash ajustment dial on it on the crank side of the reel.I've had mine for 30 plus years.
Fletch, many thanks for this video, comparing the old with the new. You handled that old bait caster very well, after you got command of the casting style that the old reel has. The stainless steel reel, accompanied by a "metal" rod, with porcelain handle, was pure 1920's and 30's. It would be great to see you fish this same antique rod & reel, using some of the old antique baits of yesteryear times. I viewed a previous video you did on antique lures and enjoyed it much. An old timer, like myself, enjoyed watching the old baits perform again. I'm looking forward to the day that a bass pro tournament fisherman wins the big one using an old antique bait to accomplish this mission. As you already know from your own personal experience, those old baits "will" catch fish. In the early 1960's, a local fisherman here in west-central Georgia, used a #4 size Lazy Ike in frog pattern to win a local tournament. The Lazy Ike was a super favorite bait for fishermen in this area (Chatahoochee River) to use. Throwing from a boat to the bank or from the bank out into bass ambush sites. They hit that Ike with extreme prejudice! None of the local fisherman nowadays use toehold Ike anymore. Many aren't acquainted with it, only a currently produced bait. So the Lazy Ike has not been fished in many years by the "young guns" in Bass Pro tournaments. If I was younger, in better health, I would make a concerted effort to win a tournament using a so-called antique bait, like the Lazy Ike. This legendary bait came in several sizes, but from my memory the favorite was the frog pattern, and silver shad-like pattern, in the 3-inch (#3) or the 4-inch (#4). Young Fletch, many thanks for your videos on the old school hardware we once fished with. Old bass fisherman, retired because of health & age, will watch videos like you do all damn day long, or when the cows come in, whichever is first. I would love to see a Ike on the fishing-end of your rod & reel in one of your videos someday. There is still a lot of us "old fishermen" that once fished this "killer-go-getter" bait, the Lazy Ike. Make our day, and thanks again for this video.
I just found a fishing rod in a old barn these people were about to burn down but I do pesticide and before they burnt it I sprayed so bugs would go to their home and I asked the guy if he was keeping it he told me to take it and it looks identical to this one. Can't wait to clean it up
When I see you at the classic I’ll have to let you borrow a few of my Dads older baits. Im actually doing new versions of some of them so I’ll bring both so you can do an old vs new. No drag is crazy!! When did the switch over to closed face reels?? I’ve seen some old versions of those!!
I understand that new reels are really high quality vs old reels. But the oldies are made to last. I own 2 1950’s conventional reels, they have never failed me.
Awesome video. Watching from southeast GA. When you collab with Noah, y'all make amazing catches. My KTBTV baitcast combo came in the mail today. I can't wait to try it out. I wanna see how you fish this weekend's winter temperatures. And what you would recommend.
I've used a direct drive old reel on a 10ft rod for strippers. Press your thumb down and let it run and grab the handles once it stops. I want another direct drive one. The spinning handles are something else when a big fish decides it's taking line.
Just think, if that rod and reel combo is 100 years old, it predates synthetic lines and would have been spooled with line made out of spider silk or linen.
I’m going to be honest it really just depends on the bait I wouldn’t be surprised if he caught more fish on a rattle trap than what kickintherebass is using
Fletcher, why do you keep getting the sh*t end of the stick. 100yr old rod and reel, 50+yr old lure,etc.. You're not selling yourself very well on your channel! Noah is allowed to get his feelings hurt, make him use the crap. The competition is great between the two of you and fun to watch. Not sure about the handle material on the old reel, they had ivory and a few had hard plastic. My old fart southbend reel has ivory handles but my old school zebco 202 has porcelain. Anyways, great show as always! Happy Holidays.
Yesterday me and my best friend were walking back to his house from a mill pond and we almost got hit by a car he was swerving I’m pretty sure he was drunk
Can you say more about this 100 years old piece of art? These modern rebranded chinese reels are all the same, boring. Please tell us how to find these old rods&reels in good condition

Hi
honestly wasn't expecting it but this has become my current favorite fishing channel, ya'll just pump out bangers and i've learned a fair bit about lure choice
Loves these types of vids you should do 100 year lures with a kids rod!
Might have to add that one to the list😂
It's cool to see old tackle being used. Nice vid.
It's definitely fun man! I was surprised that I was able to find a reel that worked so well still hahah

Приятно видеть "ретро" снасти. да ещё в работе! стекло-волоконные удилища и сейчас годятся для рыбалки 😅🙃👍

Awesome video. I have had a few similar ancient rods come through my collection and never understood how to fish them. This is helpful.
You ain’t wrong, Fletch. I have a parrot and I ain’t never been accused of being right in head. 😂
Great Video brother, you and Noah are a great combo
I love that gold/black pattern for lipless cranks.
Can’t wait for this summer just picked up my 3rd rod and 2 buzzbaits
The 100 year old rod casts better than my rods lol😂
Nice!! Very well done!! old school with current skill set still gets er done!! great vid!!
Fletcher! Im allmost certian have that same 100 yr old reel lol, great vid !!
I use an antique pflueger Akron reel on an antique 6ft Eagle claw glass rod for bluegill and crappie it’s a lot of fun!
Yo bro use your thumb as a line guide moving the line back and forth on the spool as you reel it In to keep line even and it won't backlash as much kinda like a deep sea rod
Use baitcasters from the 70-80’s. Those were tanks as well. That would be a cool vid
It's amazing how high that bass at 20:50 jumped.
Great video Fletch!
Thanks!
Haven’t even watched but I know it will be great!
You da man👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
the “cmon mom!” was peak 😂😂😂
That old combo is a gem bro for real , I’d love love love to have that , I’m super into old fishin rods , reels , baits etc.

Your the best fishing on TH-cam

Whats that combo? And is there also a left handet reel from that one?
What brand fishing line do you use and pound test
What rod was the old one? i have the exact one sitting in my collection i bought at a yard sale in australia, never seen any this old
Let's freaking goooo. Love your channel bro. Keep up the awesome job making your videos
Appreciate it my man!
You should take the 100 y/o lures you got and use that 100 y/o rod for a video while ktb TV uses all modern stuff and see which does better old or new
I just found a fishing rod in a old barn these people were about to burn down but I do pesticide and before they burnt it I sprayed so bugs would go to their home and I asked the guy if he was keeping it he told me to take it and it looks identical to this one. Can't wait to clean it up

How are you able to cast so far?
So btw I have a Shakespeare Odyssey baitcast it's a 25 year old semi low profile baitcaster. Is the reel you use a ambassador or a Shimano calcuta
What kind of line is on the vintage reel?
Awesome video. Watching from southeast GA. When you collab with Noah, y'all make amazing catches. My KTBTV baitcast combo came in the mail today. I can't wait to try it out. I wanna see how you fish this weekend's winter temperatures. And what you would recommend.
What kind of a boat yall have lve been looking for something like that
I've used a direct drive old reel on a 10ft rod for strippers. Press your thumb down and let it run and grab the handles once it stops. I want another direct drive one. The spinning handles are something else when a big fish decides it's taking line.
Their inner kid at 8:00 😂
I'm Japanese and I use old Calcutta and Ambassador reels to catch catfish. The translation may be wrong.
Great vid:)
The world record largemouth bass is 22 pounds and 4 ounces, caught by George Perry on June 2, 1932 in Montgomery Lake, Georgia.
that 100 year old thing throws further than my stuff 😢
I'm curios what the boat is called and is it being rented or owned
1932 in georiga, a 22 pound and 4 ounce largemouth bass was caught. Still current record. The whopper!
Hey you should do a 1v1 vintage fly fishing rod vs a mondern fly fishing rod You vs Kickandtherebass
Love the vids keep up the good work
Will do man! Thanks for watching👊🏼
Looks like the exact same rod and reel in Red Dead Redemption 2. Pretty awesome!
As the owner of a real repair service I am proud that you didn't dis on the 100 year old reel much
Fun fact those reels used to be used for salt water bay or coast fishing
Are there invasive silver carp where you live Fletcher The Fisherman?
didn't understand why not weighting the bluegill????
Lol I love the challenge but I don't understand why you didn't tighten your spool tension much more. It would have saved you a lot more headache
Let’s go fletcher !
😎👊🏼
The way the blue girl took it. I thought it was a bass😂
Whats the brand name of the rod and reel?
Just think, if that rod and reel combo is 100 years old, it predates synthetic lines and would have been spooled with line made out of spider silk or linen.
Most of my casting reels are round ABU's more than two decades old . They just keep catching fish.
You guys are lucky you can fish in the winter. I don’t have a boat and I can’t really just go out into the freezing cold of Washington and bass fish.
What’s the name of the modern rod
Hey what part of sc do u fish or live cause I need some spots to fish
@text2057 WAIT REALLY
you guys should do old rod with new baits vs new rod with old baits
100 year old fishing rod like bruh come on man thats cheap
We have both of those
I’m going to be honest it really just depends on the bait I wouldn’t be surprised if he caught more fish on a rattle trap than what kickintherebass is using
Can I buy the old bait caster
SK code doesn't work for buying thunder cricket or craws.
how can you fish with right hand. i am right handed but i can only fish with left hand
Did my boi just steal Arthur Morgan's fishing rod from RDR2?
Like, if you feel like bass fishing, then slowing down the more the years go on
nice old rod
Before every catch the song gives it away that they caught something 💀
Even though that rod is 100 years old it’s better than my rod right now
Fletcher, why do you keep getting the sh*t end of the stick. 100yr old rod and reel, 50+yr old lure,etc.. You're not selling yourself very well on your channel!
