You're right, when watching previous years videos the volume of the intro vs review portion were SUPER different. This year's audio (and video shots) are much better. great work everyone @ Bike Magazine!

Finally got out on my SB130 here in Maryland. Rode my favorite loop which I would consider advanced/expert with lots of uphill and downhill rock gardens and technical features (but not a DH trail). I couldn't be happier with the SB130. I was worried it would struggle when climbing because of the slack headtube but it climbed like a beast! My prior ride is a Stumpy FSR Comp and it beats it in all categories...climbing, descending and spinning. The Infinity Switch system is not a gimmick like I feared it would be. I basically had zero bob when climbing and I left the shock at full open the entire ride. I bought the basic model and although it is 31+ pounds it did not feel heavy at all. Now, I just need to wait and see how it holds up over the long run. Well done, YETI!
I live in Frederick MD, its perfect for the watershed, Im picking up a 130 since we do not have big hits here for the 150. I think that the 130 would be a little over kill for Shafer Farms, but might be good for the climbing and the snappy quick downhills. Can't wait to get it out!

I recently demo'd this bike.
Let me start by saying my one and only bike that I been riding for about 4 years is a V1 Ibis Ripley. It weighs under 26 Lbs. It's super nimble and climbs like a rocket!
So while my bike was being serviced at the bike shop they loaned me this bike.
My first impression is that it's a brawler. It's a big bike in terms of weight and length.
I felt the climbing was a chore but descended well overall. I'm used to a lighter bike, this
was a heavyweight to me!..LOL. I felt the same way when I demo'd the Ripmo.
After riding this bike, I realized what types of bikes appeal to me more: Short-Mid travel trail bikes! - the lighter the better!

@@LordStanley94 My comment was almost a year ago, a lot has changed since then.
I actually demo'd the SB130 again, and loved it! Maybe because I been demo'ing a lot of bikes and got used to the new Geo, etc. It climbed amazingly well.
I eventually bought a V1 Ibis Ripmo and love it. It is similar to the SB130 but has a bit more travel and feels more nimble.
The Ripmo is like a Ripley on steroids!
Last week, I took my Ripley on a ride and then took my Ripmo for a ride to compare. They both are similar although I think since my Ripley has a shorter wheelbase ( not sure about the current model) it's a little easier to maneuver. However, although my Ripmo is about 5 Lbs heavier than the Ripley it's just as nimble, climbs as well, and is more stable (which was one of my deciding factors). I don't feel the extra weight while riding - it's unbelievable!
People say they prefer the Ripley for longer XC rides over the Ripmo, I feel you can use either.
Why I chose Ibis again over Yeti was that I hear Yeti doesn't give good service and I think the Xfinity linkage looks like a pain to service. Ibis on the other hand has amazing service.
@@NDemanuele1 Norbert, I greatly apprexiate your feedback. I am looking to buy a solid Trail/Cross MTB. I realize your post was nearly 1 year ago and I fully understand many aspects change quickly. I will check out the Ripmo. I am 6'1" or 185cm and believe to need a 29" wheelbase. Am I correct in saying that you can customize your MTB to your liking, right? Frame, Gears, etc. What do you have on your Ripmo? How much was it? Thanks.
@@LordStanley94 Are you new to MTB'ing? Of course you can customize however you want. I have a NX build. I paid about $3400 with tax. I actually got mine on Ebay. It had very low miles and is like new. I saved about 25%.
I suggest you get a good Groupset ( drivetrain and brakes) and then everything else you can change as you need to.

If you're more of an XC rider get the SB100 at almost 5 lbs lighter. If you're more of an XC/Trail rider, still get the SB100... It will surprise you how capable it is for a 100mm bike. If you're more of a Trail/Enduro rider, get the SB150!!! It's so much better down hill than the SB130 and still climbs well. Oh and for the record, Ripmo > SB130

With all due respect... I disagree.. The sb100 I could bottom out repeatedly at 190lb..went back and forth on the demos to come to my conclusion.. Yes the 130 is heavier BUT... DOESN'T pedal like it is.. I still say if you like aggressive xc to light enduro... Get this! The 150 shreds but still doesn't climb like the 130 even tho it climbs well... The 130 still descends like an all out beast! Just need to use a little more finesse than the 150.
Best thing about TH-cam is there is way more product exposure than just the main stream media guys. This year, particularly, I feel we actually getting much more honest product reviews from all content creators. That's a great thing for consumers.
Nice job coming out swinging Jason but YOU failed to mention that the SB150 blows at slow tech climbs, and steers like a truck, which is being brought to light by several reviewers.

i had Ripley V3 and now i own a regular SB130 for a month and a half now, sooooo good !
never in my life (and i am 50 years old) had a bike that fit me. i am 6'4 and 238.1lb (but who's counting:).
1) turns - for me is not so demanding on the turns, i do charge a little or maybe have enough weight for all wheels :). i am so centered on the SB130 so on drops (not doing BIG ones) i do not need to make a huge effort to get the front up a little ... it is just so amazing and turns so amazing fast and fun
2) bike weight - funny but the tallboy 2022 is the same as SB130 - why not have more suspension ??. but to get it under 30lb you need carbon wheels with no crazy wide tires.
3) Time - I timed 38km rout (230m climbing, fast rout) it was exactly the same speed and the same average HR as my Ripley V3(same outside temperatures) .
4) Fun - so fun to get this bike in the air with my 238lb... turns and drops... stable.. so much fun
5) technical - on the technical stuff the SB130 just wants to help you instead of "stuck" on the rocks like i felt on the Ripley V3.
Do not get me wrong, loved the Ripley but when started to ride a little harder/gnarly the bike just is not enough and hung up on stuff even on XC routs when you have some rocks specially on the climbs.
The Ripley V3 (9cm stem since it was too short), Ripley V4 is worse (with 5cm stem).
I bought the Ripley V4 and left it in the bike shop, after waiting 6 month for the bike.
the V4 numbers are increased but the steep angle just "eat" some of that so ... no good for tall guys.
it is so important to try the bike and see that it is OK for you and your current style of riding.
I'm gonna assume the old timer saying the SB130 is "felt disrespected while cornering, or doing anything slow and tech'y" was mostly due to him being a tiny guy on a 29er.
Hey guys - love the reviews and analysis of every bike in these tests. I'm currently in the market for a new bike, most likely the long travel 29" category. I'm 6'1" and am an "aggressive trail rider with enduro tendencies", and seem to fall right in between a L and XL in almost every brand. Do you guys post your stats (heights, leg and arm length, etc.) anywhere along with what size bike you ride when testing, and which size bike you choose in your dream builds? I'm basically wondering if any of you are close to my height and if so, which size you tend to prefer for which bikes. Thanks!

Finally an unbiased review. I rode one and loved it when I was going fast and chugging up a fire road, but yeah slow tech was challenging. I've ridden treks, SC, Ibis, Pivot. The Yeti system is the best pedaling by far and has fairly predictable breaking habits. The geometry maybe "too progressive" for those of us who don't live on west of the Mississippi.
I have yeti 4.5 and find if perfect for east coast trails/single track but I understand where you are coming from. The 130 rocking a 160 fork is a bit diff beast.

Ernesto Torres no he probado Jekyll 2 pero pero tengo sb130 y no se siente para nada trail bike escala muy bien y se siente muy estable y puedes estar todo el día en la bici fácil de la otra bici no La he probado

Where I ride, lots of switchbacks and ledgy stuff. It looks like a great bike for wide-open country though.
Great review and very helpful, I used to race pro DH for Maxxis and been looking at this bike for east coast rides. We don't have the big hits or long dh trails in MD, rather quick snappy single track and dh. Your review was very helpful discussing this and how both bike handle. Ill be going with the 130 and can't wait for it!!

@@duncanleckie5639 Love yum yum but he's not 100% correct on that vs in my eyes.. Hes 140lb so for him Ya the 100 can replace the 130..but at 192lb I bottomed that 100 out with ease properly set up (even more psi than my weight by 30)..The 130 is heavier than the 100 obviously but it doesn't pedal like it.. Got my 130 built up in the mid 28lbs... I think his vid in regards is a little misleading.
Yep, took me a minute to learn to weight the front end of the modern geo bike compared to 100mm XC bikes.

This is a hell of a bike really but there is one better. From Koba Switzerland, the Koba 29 Trailtool ND ... I`ve tested both bikes about 2 Weeks side by side and i bought in the end the Koba. Yetis Sb130 is a slightly bit not precise enough and the weight difference is also mentionable! I went for the Trailtool ND and this is the best bike i have ridden so far...
What trail is this? I'm heading down there next week. Oh and... RIPMO!

what size did you ride in the test and how tall was the rider ? i looking to buy one but not sure what frame size im 178cm and looking for large size is it not to big for me ? i had santa cruz large size and was perfect for me.
Were all three testers on the same size Large frame?
No, Ryan Palmer and Mike Ferrentino rode a size large, Kristin Butcher rode a medium.

Hi guys, can you put a Fox 36 grip 2 160mm upfront on the Yeti SB 130, I know the grip 2 only do 160mm upwards, I'm shortly doing a custom build & I ride my current bike the Yeti SB 5.5 Turq fully open all of the time, so the grlp2 would I think be a better fork, it would change the ride a little & alter the BB height, would that effect the stabability of the bike to much on the downs !!

Good review as are the other bible reviews. The blonde rider model doesn’t seem to appear in any so far...so what’s her opinion? Nicole is the absolute best in female rider commentary so I’m not looking for a better review. Just wonder why you have RP in a video vs a female rider with better bike skills.
