    At least you did it, and it worked!

    Loved the video. Thank you for sharing your experience(s). I especially appreciate you sharing the things that didn't work as planned. It certainly saves time for those of us planning a tower project. 73 and good DX. K8DQ

      Thanks much and glad you enjoyed it. I always believe in sharing what I've learned. I visited your QRZ page and you have quite a collection of radio on that wall. Wonder if you play with them all and if they still work. Finally you could pass as Russ Limbaugh's twin. You just need to get behind the golden EIB microphone!

      @@MacsForever1 All of the radios are fully restored and operational. It just takes a lot of time to keep them in rotation. That wall of radios is only part of the collection. :-)
      As for looking like Rush - I wish I had half his intellect. Huge loss when he passed.

    David, excellent video! I just stumbled across it as I’m watching all the tower vids that I can. I’m not that far from you either…..Sandwich, IL. Had a Universal Tower back in early 70’s when I had first gotten my General……loved it! Dug the hole by hand and mixed the cement by hand too, but I was 16, so I was energetic. Ha! Now I’m 65 and have another Universal Tower on order. It’ll be a 21-50, and I’m putting a Mosley Pro-67-B on it. Not digging this one though! But my reasoning was similar to yours….lost both parents in late 2019. They fully supported me getting into ham radio when I was a kid on the farm, and I know they’d be thrilled with me getting back into it now. My dilemma is just putting it up and having someone climb it to put the antenna on, or rigging up a winch system to tilt it over. I’ve been an amputee for 43 years so can’t climb it myself. Pluses and minuses to both I think. They’re great towers, and I hear great things about Mosley antennas. Anyway, just wanted to tell you that it was a great video. Tom, WB8KSB

      I'm glad you found it useful. I'm just 5 years behind you so I don't think I'll dig my next hole my hand either. That said it was a fun project and I enjoy it everyday. Good luck and maybe I'll meet you at my next Sandwich hamfest next year.

    Nice tower I’m planning to put up a tower but not planning on climbing it as I don’t do heights I’m looking at a tower with X cross members free standing Wade DMX 64’ KC8NRO

      Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. I hope you found it useful. The tower you might be referring to is a ROHN BX or HDBX with the x braces. Not my favorite tower from a climbers perspective because of foot fatigue but as you said you're not the climber. It's a better value as a tower goes too. Best of luck to you. 73

    What about rebar?

    • @MacsForever1
      @MacsForever1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually if you look on the Universal Tower website they don't mention requiring a rebar cage. As I mentioned in the video the concrete company poured a "tower mix" that had extra aggregate and fibers. The tower has been up 9 years so far and has stood up to some pretty hefty winds so I think I'm good.

    I like that tower. Can you send me info on where I can find one? 73's Ka7cjh

      It’s made by Universal out of the Detroit area. Shoot me an email from my QRZ page with your phone number and we can chat if you have other questions.

    Excellent and informative presentation. It looks like you did a great job on the tower. I’m currently planning to put up a Universal HD21-70. Because of medical reasons, and an insistent wife, I don’t plan to climb it. I’m going to come up come up with a way to pull it up. AG4RT

    Most tower footers call for rebar in the concrete, so wondering if this one did not? Tower looks great.
    *Edit* Nevermind on rebar, I see you already answered in another comment.

      So you can appreciate all the work I did too. Well at lease there's a nice square hole, something you can't get with a back hoe. Hope you enjoyed teh video.
