- With 3 DLC packs out, Mechwarrior 5 has seen some fairly consistent support since it was released. That being said, each pack offers very different kinds of content. Let me show you what is offered in the base game and each pack so that you can decide what is worth your money.

Unfortunately the reason he has so few subs is because he doesn't post too often. In fact he only has like six videos on his channel and has add this channel since 2012. It takes a lot of work to be a full-time TH-camr and most people start out as just a speck. He did make a great video here and it's what actually got me invested in MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries, however it doesn't matter if he put all his effort into one great video actually two if you count his other one, I would love to see his channel blow up but realistically it probably would not happen. Although I think he streams on Twitch he probably is a twitch streamer now.
I just bought MW5 on sale from Steam. This review was exactly what I was looking for, a great breakdown of what to expect from the game in 2022, and thoughtful reviews of all of the DLC. I think I'll buy Heroes of the Inner Sphere while it's still on sale.
I subscribed. I'd watch more Mechwarrior or general video game content like this if you produced more.

Thnx for this vid, even tho I last played mw2 all those years ago and from what I remember I was very fond of. It's something I thought I'd never play again, but after watching this I gave it a try. And oh boy am I hooked, only been playing past week, but have already bought all dlc. And that's something I've never done early into playing any game ever. So thanks again for this video as it opened my eyes to something so underrated

I got the vanilla game late last year, loved it and had a lot of fun despite it's shortcomings but now that all the expansions are on sale with a new one around January I've been considering getting back into it.

Hopefully they eventually do a "1st Somerset Strikers" dlc pack in homage to the Battletech animated series, where they show the start of the Clan Invasion and give us access to the Axman (still have my action figure with Adam Steiner from when I was a kid).

dude your reviews are awesome. rofl im having fun watching this. and now i want MW5. Been playing the latest Battletech and loving it so far. Im new to TH-cam blogging, but trying it myself. Must be the fact that I played MW2 for so many years as a kid. I think people forget that the storyline of MW2 was Meh too, but totally fun. also, I was too young back then too understand what a Meh story was. Its the game play that counts. Even though I missed release, I think this game received less credit that it deserved.

19:00 I've had the game since the Epic release and have enjoyed it, warts and all, the whole time (mods really help of course). But this is something I never even thought about, keeping a speedy mech for exfil (and actually changing to it to do so). I'm using 330's Pilot Overhaul so pilots get affinity in specific mechs, causing me to really stretch the usage of chassis well past the point I'd have everyone in at least a moderately-speedy Medium, and this would be a great use for my hero Jenner I still have in my lance.
Just got back into this game. These videos helped with what DLC was worth it. Just got heros of IS for now and am enjoying it. Thanks
Glad I could help you! Heroes of the Inner Sphere is still my favorite DLC of the bunch, but I just picked up the Rise of Rasalhague so we'll see if that changes anything.
The mods are where this game really shines

I bought the game for my son when it was released on PS5 (when MW2 came out that was the carmtalyst for my first gaming computer). I bought all the DLC except for Call to Arms (missed that somehow), but only last week made time to sit down & play more than instant action or the tutorial. As a MW OG I love the Warhammer so when I reached rank 7, & that little Canopian bribes me with a Warhammer on the otherside of the IS I started to make a B line for it (those Canopians sure know their way to my heart!). Well at rank 7 & as you move westward in the story life sure gets interesting as the difficulty really, really ramped up. Now just trying to decide if Call to Arms is worth $8. I generally prefer my giant stompy robots to blast away but Classic tabletop BT really has me appreciating melee despite being a Clanner sympathizer.

Actually one of the best OVERVIEW reviews I've ever seen. Very few reviewers take the time to introduce and cover a complex game, three years of updates, and ALL the DLC. This is the one best review which anyone can watch and decide whether to spend their precious time and money on this three year old game. Or, perhaps someone bought the original on release day and quit, and is wondering whether to come back for the DLC.
I was very turned off by the thumbnail using the emo face on the mech (Dec 2022) and the lackluster 1970's style image/font. It gives the impression the video is going to be clowning around and not serious. I initially swiped past but...
The title brought me back after scanning many other reviews, trying to decide which to watch. Although many other thumbnails are much better (they don't scream "meh"), none had stated they would be going through the updates and all the DLC. During the first minute, I nearly backed out.

For an introduction to the game, geared toward MechWarrior fans as well as those above never heard of the franchise, you're level of surface detail and objectivity, while clearly stating where you are also biased in favor of certain content, is right on the money.
I really hope you update this video (and thumbnail) with a "director's cut" after the next DLC release in Jan 2023.

I really appreciate that you took the time to give me feedback on various aspects of my video, from my style all the way to my thumbnails. It is my goal to make my reviews informational with a few jokes scattered about for flair. Having thumbnails that reflect the tone and content of my videos couldn't hurt. I'm glad that you were able to suffer through my intro and make it into the content proper. In truth, the live action skits were something I added in simply because it was fun for me to make. I'll probably keep doing them in future videos, but I may shorten them down a fair bit to avoid scaring away potential viewers. I'm looking forward to the next MW5 DLC pack and I will almost certainly make a video for it. I like the idea of a "director's cut", but I think I'll wait until the devs stop supporting MW5 before I try to compile everything into one neat package. I'm putting the mech content on hiatus until the next DLC arrives, but I am working on other projects as my schedule allows. Glad to have you as one of my subscribers and I hope you enjoy whatever I put out next!

It's hard to say if I'll be doing a series on it right now. That being said, they have announced a new MW5 DLC, Rise of Rasalhague. I'm definitely going to be doing a review of that at the very least.

Thank you! I'm really hoping that they add a DLC for the clan invasion. It feels like they've been building up to that event because of a few things they put in the main story.
If you haven't heard of the clan invasion, just imagine a bunch of gene spliced super soldiers who look like they belong in the WWE piloting the most advanced mechs the galaxy has ever seen. They want to conquer the whole galaxy. That'd be rad to see in this game.
I'm using this to decide if I will hit the buy button or not.
Let me know what you decide. I'm clearly a fan of the game, but space tanks on legs might not be for everyone.
Are the mega city’s added to random missions if you own the dlc?
Yes. They're a little rare, but can pop up in the randomly generated missions.
I really want to get this. I loved the previous mercenary game (and community update). I am hoping this video will convince me that the game has improved enough to buy it. Is it open ended? Can I just keep playing and improving for as long as I want? I don't mind replaying from the start a cpl times, but after that I tend to leave games in end mode and just return to them.
From the previous mercenary game I enjoyed building up my company (mechs and pilots). What I wanted from this game was just more of the same from the previous game, let me keep playing after story is over, progressing, and exploring builds and strategies.
You'll be happy to know that the game really is open ended. You can keep playing well after the story is over. The star map and technology available will continue to advance until the in game year of 3050. After that you can still keep playing, but there won't be anything new added to your playthrough after that point.

@@kccustodes2618 I'd recommend the main campaign for your first playthrough. It will give you a decent tutorial and the story itself is worth going through once. You should also be able to engage with all the DLC as you make your way through the game. You'll also be able to keep playing as long as you like once all the story elements are over.

I like the game. I really do. But you are so much nicer to it than I would be were I to review it. Yet I can't disagree with your points. Maybe I should reevaluate my opinion on the game.
I lovingly call the game "Warcrime simulator".
One of the unique quests in the game that I really like to run is on the Davion-Kurita Border.
It's a high reward quest about either helping to defend the border or attack the other side.
I've only ever played the FedSun side of the quest because there are only two factions that I dislike more than the Dracs in the Lore. That would be the Clans and worst of all the Caps.
On one mission for the Feds you have to go on a counter attack and destroy civilian infrastructure on a sulfur high planet. Those would be water puryfiers. I don't get why people would want to live on a planet that smells like rotten eggs, but that's none of my concern.
Neither is how those civvies are going to purify their water from the highly toxic sulfur that saturates the planet in a fine yellow haze after I am done on the planet.
With AC6 on the horizon, it has me looking at Mech5 again. And NOW they habe melee? Oof. 😌

I played MWO a fair bit, but honestly I haven't touched it in years.
I honestly hate artilery, I cant use anything that goes slower than 64 or it just goes to the scrap heap and things are on every mission after difficulty 35. The missions also have 4 mechs with a 250 tonnage cap fight 450+ tonns of equiptment and more than half the enemy mechs will be ac10 urbies so no good salvage. It is a big diaspointment.
