    Large lasers in place of PPC's is one of the best choices one can make.
    2 tons per PPC removed for whatever you like. Extra armor, heatsinks and ammo. Less heat. What's not too like.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The only thing you lose really is the range, and I still prefer ERLarge Laser over PPC though it is lostech.
      I don't really like the PPC in general. I will use a single PPC, but I don't like 2-3 PPCs.

      Agree with tthat. PPC do less Damage and have significant downsides

    My all time favorite mech... the Mad Cat being a distant second.
    The only real changes I make are swap the srm 6 for a 4, plop in some double heat sinks and up the armour.
    This mech sings in the right hands. The key I find is you're the floater, deal damage at range and mop up closers obviously... but once your in it, it's all about holding fire and deligating targets. Then you weave around the battlefield applying max damage in short bursts on targets not focusing on you.(I like to target dangerous weapon systems first) Then once you start to draw attention peel off, seek cover, and rinse repeat.

      The Warhammer is a fan favorite. Not really a Mech I use too often as I don't like Mechs build around large energy hardpoints, but I like it a lot more than something like the Marauder.

    • @mikeumm
      @mikeumm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GitGudFox I think the Marauder is really good for sniping from behind cover. Especially the BH with the jets. Get up high, direct traffic and pop shots. Not a fan of the speed, but not terrible with the speed upgrade. Still looking for it this playthrough.

      The stock 6R Warhammer is in that sweet spot of being a pitbull among poodles.
      As far as design and utility, most standard mechs (level 1 tech) tend to be hit or miss, mostly miss. The Warhammer, on the other hand, is a well engineered design, that has an escalating weapon bracket, is built for aggression and action, and if you can hit your targets with any reliability will cut through opposition like wheat. The standard Warhammer can be upgraded with lostech or clantech but it still remains distinctly and recognizably a Warhammer, because it doesn't really need improvement. I've never regretted piloting it or handing it off to a lancemate on tabletop or in video games. It deserves its reputation.

    The original Mechwarrior reboot before MW5 featured the Warhammer dueling an Atlas. It's one of the most recognized Mechs in the series. It also is constantly overheating as 2 PPCs are difficult to manage without double heatsinks.

    Ive noticed with a few of the 70 ton and up mechs they have less armor than they should.
    My philosphy for mech armor is this, and in only a few cases do I stray.
    Mediums i like 300+ to max armor. Centurion is tough until you get your hands on doubke heatsinks.
    Heavys need to be mid 400 and up to start. So max armor is usually 464 or so when I get done with a Marauder or a Warhammer.
    Max armor on all my heavy and assault mechs when possible.
    I usually keep stock armor and structure. I dont see a need to fine tune armor. Although othrrs do. Maybe in the future.
    But there are a few mechs or variants of mechs Iwont even field unless I have to. My lance can pilot them.
    Certain Cyclops, Zeus etc. Which have less than 400 stock. I usually end up running up and getting pummeled babysitting the rock stupid AI. So i need max armor. So of these mechs fall short of my standard opersting philosophy.
    I'm on PS5 so I cant make my AI any less stupid unfortunately. So as you say, I'm always keeping an eye on them while Im doing my own fighting.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I always run either max armor or something very close to max armor. A single ton of armor is A LOT, and unless I can fit a really significant thing on the Mech, I won't trade a 1 ton of armor for it.
      Like 1 ton of armor for a heatsink isn't worth it. 1 ton armor for ammo if it makes the Mech playable? That might be worth it.
      There's so many enemies, and they begin to focus fire a lot more at higher difficulties, that staying on your feet tends to matter more than doing just a little more damage.

    • @purpletigerracing7087
      @purpletigerracing7087 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @GitGudFox yeah, probably over 360 ton deploy, if you show up in the biggest mech, you get targeted. Especially if you're leading or walking the point.
      I'm on PS5, I have about 500 hours in. But I'm just now starting to experiment with the builds. Probably move on to lance commands next. Which might help with leading from the rear, and also deploying like you did in this training rom.
      It's a little difficult for the lance commands at the moment.
      Also, at the moment I usually use drone view, as I just like seeing the big ass robot I'm piloting. Although I'll probably get into more cockpit view.
      I'm a 3d person guy. Which is why along with MW, I really enjoy Deadspace and The Callisto Protocol.
      I'm debating whether or not to get into Armor Core 6.

    After watching several of your videos I've adopted the ammo in the legs of the mech philosophy. Thus really embracing the mantle of lower level shitlord I adopted after deciding LRM's for everyone.
    As currently the proud owner of
    11 Atlas
    3 Banshee
    3 Highlander
    4 Battlemaster
    3 Awesome
    1 Cyclops
    And various other 80 ton mech. 24 are in my current active/available hanger as I finish my first play through of a campaign with all DLC.
    I got tired of hearing "ammo explosion detected " in my Atlas. Then having to finish a fight with 2 medium lasers. Which works out if you can hide behind your lancemates or terrain.
    So i spent an hour last night upgrading 8 Atlas and whatever else for the last few missions of the Cavalier Campaign. We just landed in deepspace to start dealing with Comstar. After what I just did to Black Inferno with 3 Highlanders and a Battlemaster with just upgraded weapons, I'm feeling confident that the final few missions will go well with minor expenses. I probably have enough mechs to do it in maybe 1 or 2 trips back to an industrial hub for repairs.
    I unfortunately didn't finish the campaign before I got to the Dragons Gambit in the time line.
    So at some point I may try and do another play through from the beginning and try and do everything chronologically.
    All the nice mechs you get between regular rewards through the campaign and quests, the reward mechs from dlc and battlefield salvage are really helpful later in the campaign.
    So should make for slightly easier completion of the rest of the multi part Quests that come with campaign and DLC.
    Then after that, its a mercs life for me. Lol
    But yeah, after watching your videos, I realize I was already doing some of the customization you were. So after developing some tactics. The modifying the mechs, i think its now time to experiment with the smaller sb laser variants.
    As you've pointed out. It might look like less damage on paper until.you factor in heat and rpm.
    So, still much learning to do.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sometimes, you can't help it. I prefer ballistic weapons a lot, so it's not surprising if I make a Mech that requires more than 4-tons of ammo, but there is a tendency that the AI doesn't seem to priority the legs.
      Now, if you DO by coincidence suffer an armor breach in the legs? Elite skill level pilots will target any armor breaches on the Mech included legs, but they will not naturally target the legs if the armor is holding.

    I just got this. Did not have any LL-SB so i used ppcx. Not as much heat as the normal ppc. Also downed the lrm10 to a 5 to help make up for the cost of the two ppc. Also have a little less armor. Not tired it out yet but heres hoping it makes an ok ai mech.

      PPCX should work. It did exist when this guide was made, but if it did, I would have designed it to use PPCX instead of LL.

  • @Michael-ek2eb
    @Michael-ek2eb 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a great build. But if you are going to use a Warhammer, you have to use the Black Widow. 2 ER PPC, 2 Medium Pulse Lasers, 4 Machine Guns, and a LRM 10-ST. The rest of you tonnage goes into Armor and Double Heat Sinks. In MW5 Mercenaries, the Machine Guns at tier 5 hit as hard as AC 2s, just without the range. You shred through mechs with my build. Between the missiles and PPCs, you strip your target of armor if not destroy them outright, then the machine guns melt what’s left.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new build would be PPC-Xs. Those are now the most powerful energy weapon in the game.

  • @MrSsjgoku72000
    @MrSsjgoku72000 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My only Question. Why Stick with Single Heat Sinks and Not Double. You got the slots, they weigh the same, but you get even better cooling?

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you want to use PPCs with this Mech, I would suggest focusing on headshots. PPCs aren't bad if you go for headshots, but they are tough to use as just a battle cannon.

  • @pRaX85815
    @pRaX85815 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always keep the PPCs, rip out the MGs and replace the lasers with S-Lasers. Rest is armor up and sinks. I deliberately ride the heat because using the PPCs just "feels" more awesome than the dinky lasers. If I could slap big ACs on the Warhammer, recreating somewhat the Hammerhands, I would. Oh I would.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely agree that PPCs feel better than large lasers since they're just beams of hot light.
      Personally I'd prefer a pair of AC5s as they do almost twice as much damage per minute as PPCs (PPC 120 vs. AC5 200), but that's what we're left with.
      In general I think the large laser hardpoints are kind of weak. Medium Lasers and Small Lasers are great, but large laser shoots too slow and PPC generates too much heat.

  • @derisathartfelt
    @derisathartfelt 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    what warhammer variant would you suggest, other than slots i don't see a difference in most variantss do some have better armor or heat capacity?

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Most of them are very similar to each other. They're basically just lore differences. The original is quite nice because many of the alternatives are the same but with fewer hardpoint options similar to the Archer.
      There is a old Royal Star League model that is slightly better and of course the Black Widow hero model is better.
      But the standard model is perfectly fine.

  • @charlesdaugherty321

    Drop all 4 lasers and the SRMs...
    Add another PPC
    If you are using stock game, still drop the SRMS and add 4 heatsinks.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Going to be really underpowered. PPCs are terrible on their own unless you have excellent accuracy for headshots.
      PPC = low damage + mid range + high heat.

    Love this build, she performs quite well although question should I only do Multiple Mission Ops when I have enough mechs in my garage, it seems to be quite a handful when I have limited mechs, not to mention I'm very picky on what factions to attack(not ever touching House Davion) I'm still trying to get the handle of this game as it seems quite much right now still, and trying to save as much credits as possible but, I keep bouncing back n forth in areas to try and find good weapons and mechs that aren't too expensive. I currently have 7 mechs in my game right now and my Rep is 7, I have two HBK-4Gs, WVR-6R, CN9-AL, ENF-4R , GRF-1n, and of course the badass WHR-6R. While the Warhammer performed quite well it appears the other mechs in my lance will soon become obsolete, what should I do because right now, I'm just pulling my hair out I really want to get into this game but it appears later on it just becomes impossible without a lance group and having the right kind of mechs, thank you once again for this awesome build hope to see more from you, Cheers!

    • @GitGudFox

      It's usually a good idea to have enough Mechs for each stage of the multi-op. It was A LOT harder before we had like 50 Mech Bays for Mechs at the ready.

    Perhaps you'll answer this in the video, but does this game have the same build parameters as the Battletech game that released in the last few years?

    • @amugusq7567
      @amugusq7567 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are small different things - mostly related to games having different gameplay. But overall in Battletech universe mech models have a pre-set amount of tonnage, weapon slots and other stuff, and so do weapons and parts as well. So it should be no problem to take mech builds from MW5 to HBS BT- if mechs and parts are in both games of course.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  ปีที่แล้ว

      🥈 Second! This game is a bit more rigid than Battletech the PC strategy game. I would say it is more frequently canon and lore compliant than Battletech PC.
      Examples...
      - Only ER Large Laser exists of the ER series because... that's true in the lore. ER Medium and Small were reverse engineer from captured Clan technology.
      - Only LB-10X Autocannon exists in the LB-X series because once again the other LB-X calibers were reverse engineered from the Clans.
      - There are non-canon Hero variants. These are mainly just for fun and to add more modding options.
      - Large Laser does 10 damage instead of 8. Not sure why. I guess they thought it wasn't strong enough.
      The modding in this game is much more rigid which is lore compliant as "customizing" mechs is generally not possible in this time frame.

    How did I know git gud would put a bunch of short burst lasers on this and call it a refit? Same as every video of yours. I wish you would be at least creative about retooling mechs. For instance the whm-6D is ideal for this game, and doesn't compromise on the chassis to do it. Pulling off hot weapons and dropping in your crutch face hugging lasers doesn't make it efficient. Sadly mw5 is a circle shoot simulator unless you build around the weaknesses of the chassis - - not turn everything into a crab....

      Well that's not true. My Thunderbolt is rather unusual by most people's standards since I'm using a pair of AC2 Rapid Fires.
      I will use something a bit unusual if I feel it's beneficial. I'm not going to try and be unique just for the sake of being unique. That's not the point of these guides.
