I knew a man online who was a writer and artist (Ron leming), and one of the many stories he'd tell was of the days when he would help Red Skelton get around in his end days (Red wanted to repay him with one of his paintings but Red's wife said "No, that's our income"). Anyway, he was able to confirm what you just said, that Red was as nice and genuine in real life as he appeared to be on TV. Which is fortunate for me since Red was my absolute favorite comedian.

Wow 40 years later my childhood memories just come rushing through me what a wonderful world it was different time in a different place for sure and Red Skelton Freddy the freeloader was always one of my very favorite clowns first class. Definitely a Christmas classic.
Who else is watching this during christmas 2020? Sadly a lot of ppl will be experiencing a lonely christmas/ holiday season.... myself included... sending hugs and thoughts/ prayers to all who need them
We just watched and loved it! (First time seeing this, we didn’t have cable when this would have first aired) I can’t figure out why, with all the talent that is in this, there is no IMDb entry for it in anyone’s list of what they have been in.
December of 1998, my grandparents were visiting us for the Holiday. My grandpa loved Red Skelton, and that year I watched it with him. Grandpa's been gone for 15 years and I miss him everyday. But, being able to watch this helps.
Actually got to meet Red Skelton in 1979 while I was an usher at New Mexico State University. My station was "guarding" the stage during the performance. Mr. Skelton made sure to thank all the staff & it was thrilling to actually get to speak with him. 41 years later still remember that time as magical. Will purchase DVD's whenever the Skelton vault opens with new items.
Ohhhhh Red we need you in 2020. We are so lost in this world. I miss you and you laughter. You were a wonderful man's a wonderful comedian. So gentle sweet and respectful to everyone. I love you forever. Red had a son that died when his child died at age 12. Red was never the same. Red brought so much laughter to everyone. He never got over the death of his son

Wow thanks for sharing I have a copy of this on vhs taped from tv in the late 80s early 90s but I need a vhs player. As a little kid in the late 80s I would watch this w my dad and we still talk about Freddie Freeloader Christmas. I will show my dad this vid this Christmas season.
I'm 27 and I have watched this as a family tradition every year at Christmastime🎄 for as long as I can remember (including just now tonight) ... and I love it each time! 🙂
when Red Skelton was on at night my parents had a bed time for us, thus the activities to get ready for bed, but some shows we could stay up for, my older sister and I would sit on the floor in pjs and cry for Freddie. Loved the show and the warmth. Glad you like it too.
Just loved this. Red Skelton was always our favorite growing up. Never missed his shows. Brought back so many good memories. Thanks for sharing merry Christmas
Something stuck in my thoughts about his saying, "I'm not a clown" (about 19:30) to the nurse in the hospital, then the biblical reference to Apostle Peter's three denials popped into my head. And then there was the statement to the little boy who wanted to see a clown that clowns may belong to those who posses them in their minds, but they actually belong to the world. Mr. Skelton was an amazing human being. In interviews he often said that he learned that "man" was created in God's image and since he didn't know what God looked like so any person he met might be God so he treated them accordingly.

Thank you so much for posting this! This is one of my favorite Christmas videos from my childhood and I’m so happy to be seeing it again and be able to share it with my mom again as well as with my own daughters. Good heartwarming stuff here.
Every Tuesday night we watched the Red Skelton show. My Poppa loved him so much. I see this wholesome goodness and I miss it. That's why I dumped cable tv and watch TH-cam. I hadn't seen Imogene Cocoa in years.
I loved him as Egghead in the Adam West "Batman" series. Adam said Vincent was one of the kindest souls he ever met. One funny 'behind the scenes' story was in this episode. It ended in an egg shootout where Egghead was defeated. But when the director yelled: "Cut," Vincent didn't accept that it was over. He stayed in character and continued to throw eggs at Adam and Burt. :)

Back to a time when HBO was half way decent. Now not so much for TV anymore, cable or not. Maybe that is why the retro stations are so popular. Thank you for this complete show, not parts.
I lost my husband February 20th. Then my first adopted son passed away three days. A couple of days later my second son was involved in a car accident and on life support and I was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to end the life of my last living relative. I'd run away at 8 and I never looked back. I'd adopted the boys severely drug-addicted knew that they probably would never make it the first 6 months but I wanted them to have love like I didn't have. They were nonverbal but they do what love was and they sure showed it. I'm at Jimmy Late life at 50. The boys were 11 and they finally had a father. Suddenly after traveling the world with my cadaver dogs after disasters I had a place to call home a place to put a Christmas and my best friend to fall asleep safely and to wake up and share my day with. Jimmy was always sending me pictures of rainbows and many pictures to the boys. Constantly I love you and hearts and little kittens pictures and I love you over and over again. To to lose him in February then my son then having to choose to let go of my last living relative what's a heartbreaking decision but but I know that he can save other families from my heartache. He saved seven other families. Christmas Eve was our anniversary and a tough one without them. You know I thought I kind of would have heard something even for one of the families that my son saved their loved ones so that they did not have to go through the pain I am but I guess Life goes on I'm sitting here very much alone. But my elderly dog that survived the freeze in the whole ordeal and made it with me through the ice the 50 mile to the bus station Lay's beside me even though I'm homeless and struggling. I I walked too many miles to work in the rain and the cold and I offered to take this shift so that others could spend time with their families. I hear everybody griping about how horrible it is to get out of their warm cars and make that short dash in the rain and the cold to inside work or how they dread the family bickering and all the food and everything. I feel red skelton's loneliness song. But I do know a banker finally gave me a loan unsecured to bury my then the first son and of course the second one knowing that I probably would not have a stable income. To date despite many a night rolling up in a tarp and sleeping in the mud I've never missed a day of work I never called off and I've made every payment to that bank and get Faith on time. My dog turn to 18 on the 4th of July. I am blessed because he has been through all of this with me. I'm blessed with being 63 and still able to walk as far as I do work as many hours as I do and live under very challenging conditions. My co-workers really don't know much because I don't complain. But if I were to say something to him it would be that I wished I had a few more minutes with my family. I wouldn't say I love you or any of those things, they knew it with all my heart. I'd simply tell them thank you for making my life so much better. I am afoot since I left his car and our house for his mother per his wishes. As I set here in the rain in the darkened McDonald's parking lot using their wifi and strangers stop only long enough to ask if the obviously closed store is open, I give them the best directions to wherever they are hurrying to celebrate, be with family, be well fed, warm and dry. Then I offer a merry Christmas. Maybe 2 paused long enough after getting what they wanted from me, to even say merry Xmas back. They just tear off splashing me. But each gets a prayer for their safety. I was trying to read my husband and sons old texts, some very funny but many many always ended with"I love you". I pulled out the candy cane I got from a coworker and started to look at google pics. By accident as I shifted to keep my old dog dry, TH-cam popped up and it was this special from so many years ago. Of all the movies I think this even topped the Snoopy special for my husband so I think it was meant to be. Although buried great deal of them still lives in my heart. So if you have loved ones if you have family please tell them now while you can that you love them I and make a good memory. I ordered a tent and a sleep bag. I'm very grateful for. I want you to know if you ever have any sadness just keep playing by the rules and just keep praying..our Father will answer prayers and take care of us. I just wanted you to know this is what Christmas is truly about, not pocessions, fancy car, house and clothes. Love, forgiveness and hope are what I'm sending out there. Peace!
I've seen this in my reccomenations whenever I see all these old Christmas specials, but never watched it until this year. This was really great. I think I recall hearing about this in probably an infomercial about "Red Skelton" on VHS. This special was really fun and surprisingly heartwaring, especially the moent where Freddie was at the Hosptial entertaining the kids, very charming. Also kudos to Vincent Price as Professor Humperdoo, such a fun performance. I may have to make this Christmas tradition. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
I lost my mom this summer. I missed the 2 Christmas with her because of covid. I am glad you have this last one to spend with him. God Bless and Merry Christmas to you both
"The world is a glorious place, a gift for the whole human race. Give thanks to the Lord up above, by living a lesson in love." So very true. Merry Christmas everyone! God Bless.
I think that a channel of all the channels should show all the Old Christmas Classic like this one and all the others as well Bob Hope. Bing Crosby. and so many others. Christmas Specials. I think that some of the Christmas Specials this day in time have actually lost the true meaning of Christmas and its more about just the people on the show at the time than anything else. What about Santa that came down the snow on an electric razor and so many more like I can remember as a kid.
No one quite like Red Skelton to make you make you feel the Christmas spirit other then Jesus's birth himself !!!! May Mr. Skelton rest and live in God's kingdom and power and glory forever and ever

But you've got to start by saying 'I believe'.
■ Being sad is universal;
it comes without a rehearsal.
'Cause when you've got to believe,
you really believe.
▪But cheer's a possibility -
in fact, impregnability.
But you've got to start by saying 'I believe'.
● You mean that I don't have to dramatize
all the things I idolize,
but just start by saying 'I believe'?
• Christmastime comes once a year.
Spread the joy, goodwill, and cheer!
But you've got to start by saying 'I believe'.
• Ok, then we'll start by saying … 'I believe'.

James, Thanks for posting those lyrics!
@@misterwhitman4368 You're very welcome David! 🤝🏼 I'm glad you appreciate and enjoy them as well. 🙂
Thank you for posting this. It's an old favorite of mine.
Peace!
What an amazing story you must be an extraordinary person God bless you.
Good night, and may God bless.
I grew up watching this and loved it it was a true classic that unfortunately just stopped being aired

"The world is a glorious place, a gift for the whole human race. Give thanks to the Lord up above, by living a lesson in love." So very true. Merry Christmas everyone! God Bless.

How lovely.
I remember watching this along time ago
I met both Skelton & Price. They are both nice 😊 men
love this so much:-) Thank u:-)
thank you and blessings for the uploading.
I remember this show one of my favorite when I was younger back then boy thanks for sharing it ❤it
Merry Christmas 🤗🎅🌲
Hard to find? There's VHS copies of this special in thrift stores all over. This was the video that introduced me to Red Skelton.

❤❤❤ ! OMG, i had forgotten almost completely about this little Christmas special 😍 💖 gem 💎 ! Sadly, Red Skelton, Imogene Coca, and Vincent Price are all passed away now, as far as I know 😢😕 ! I loved watching Red as a child ; Imogene, for her starring with Sid Caesar in " Your Show of Shows " and Vincent for his legendary horror roles ! Now, can you please find and repost " Rich Little's - A Christmas Carol " with Paul Lynne ? That was a delightful special to see !
