My mom sat me in front of the tv in 1967 to watch Red Skelton and Carol Burnett. I was 6 yrs old and I remember!! I used to love the mime section. Everything was done without saying a word. That man was a genious!! Thank you for posting this, it takes me back to my childhood.

Although nobody knows him here (I’m from Germany)
    But I think he’s wonderful!!! 🥰

I’m 30 but I grew up watching hundreds of red Skelton sketches on VHS. He was my favorite comedian growing up. I know that sounds odd but I was always an old soul that way. He was a big part of my comedic influence. I love Red Skelton

I'm slightly younger and am an old soul as well. I'd heard of this guy before but never watched any of his stuff until today. Loving every minute of these old clips.

I was born in 1959 and as I was growing up, The Red Skelton Show was probably my favorite variety show (followed by The Jackie Gleason Show). Red was not only funny, but was just so likable and sincere. He always ended his shows with "God Bless" and you know he really meant it. I don't think in todays cynical age, that anyone could pull off such a sendoff without seeming phony.
As an aside, I have to say that Red's "The Silent Hour" segment was the only mime routine I have ever liked in my entire life. The thing was, it wasn't the typical mime routine like Marcell Marceau with being inside a box and crap like that . . . "The Silent Hour" was stories. It was really more like silent movies than pantomime actually.
I will always have fond memories of Red and his show and I enjoyed seeing this after so many, many years. Many thanks for the UL!

My mom was born the same year as you. She died from breast cancer in 2000 when she was 41 and I was 16.
I was thinking about her today and randomly remembered that she had told me back then that she loved Red Skelton. I'm not sure why I remembered that, but since there was no TH-cam back then I was never able to watch his stuff. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it was cool to see someone else posting who was born in her birth year who also enjoyed his work. It gives me a bit of a clearer picture of what her childhood may have been like.
As I approach 40 (the age she was when she passed) I find it a great comfort to try to discover and enjoy the interest she had while she was on Earth. Your comment on Skelton's work, I like to imagine in my head, is how my Mom must have felt about him and his comedy. So I thank you for that and god bless! :)

If the ideals and principles that we had then would have carried forward to the present, this country and the people in it would be so much better off. It's a shame that things have changed so poorly over the years.

I'm curious -- according to legend, Skelton was so furious at CBS for canceling him in 1970 that he vowed they'd never get their hands on the filmed episodes (which he owned). DId he (or his estate) eventually relent?

      Thats really unfortunate if true.
Because it might mean that because of Reds grudge against CBS,most of his shows 20 yrs of episodes might be lost to time. That would be very sad indeed if thats the case.I would save up and buy a collection of every episode of Reds 20 yr run if it were only made available.

Which modern day comedian most reminds you of red Skelton, I would say, Robin Williams,, it's kind of funny after all these years certain comedy still holds up like this show and the honeymooners with Jackie Gleason many others are just dumb and mundane

    • @UCEBuster

The Red Skelton show was filmed with a live audience. The laughs on that show are real. A lot of vintage canned laughter came from his show, not just because he was so funny, but because he did a lot of pantomime, making for extended laughs with no dialog to edit out.
