  • It’s easy to make your own mini-comic out of a single sheet of paper. But somehow, a couple weeks ago, I forgot how to do it. So I made this video as a quick reference for the next time my memory fails me. Follow along and make one yourself!
    Tools and Materials:
    A single sheet of 8.5x11 paper
    Something to draw with
    A pair of scissors
    You could also make the comic in a graphics program
    To make copies, access to a printer or copy machine is key.
    Some of the art we do on this channel ends up in my shop:
    Vince’s Storenvy Shop: vincedorse.storenvy.com/
    And here’s a few other places where you can follow me and Michelle:

    Long Lost Friend Studio is my own small press imprint that I use for my books and illustration. But it’s also me and some friends hanging out at my studio, making art, trying different mediums, and learning new stuff. If you like that sort of thing, feel free to follow along.

    You can do it with more panels, if the number of rows (half the number of panels) is even. You crease vertically between columns, alternating back and forth, and between the last and first panels (and between panels 2 and 3) there must be an inside crease. Then you fold horizontally in half, outside crease, then cut the horizontal crease everywhere except through the right-most (1 to 2) and the left-most columns. The construction spreads in a star shape and you bring these folds together to form a fan-like thing that becomes your booklet.

      Holy cow, I wanna try that now! Thanks for the tip. I also saw one at a convention once where it was two of the basic 8-page minis nested into each other and stapled on the binding to make it twice as long. So many ways to accomplish something cool with this format!

      Ha! I don't know if I mentioned it in my our video, but I did a TH-cam search for videos on those little one-page fold-and-cut jobs before making ours because I honestly forgot how the cut/fold worked, but nothing came up! Now Michelle tells me there are at least two others that were out there (including yours)! Dang algorithm! There's probably 250 more I still don't know about. Anyway, I just checked yours out and I love it! And yeah, the PIGMA FB is killer. Love that brush pen. Thanks for watching! For this project, I used regular printer paper, 8.5 inches wide, 11 inches tall. You could use almost any paper that holds images. Just nothing TOO thick or it will be hard to fold it. The folds I did by hand. I don't think you have to be absolutely perfect for it to work, but if you are a perfectionist, you could always drag a bone folder tool along a ruler to crease the lines sharply before you fold it. Not sure if you've ever used a bone folder, but I use it when I make boxes, greeting cards, anything that needs to be creased and folded. They look like this: www.amazon.com/Lingee-Genuine-Suitable-Scoring-Indentation/dp/B09Y81X483/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2RF350AE2P5YZ&keywords=bone+folder&qid=1662251335&sprefix=bone+folder%2Caps%2C63&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fpsmobile3945 Just so you know, once you fold the paper into a booklet (as i show you in the video) the empty side of the paper isn't really visible. So you shouldn't have to worry about it. As for sticker paper...I've never used it for a project like this. It sounds like it would be more trouble than it's worth, but maybe you're on to something. Who knows? I think it's always good to experiment with what you have and devise a solution that works best for you. Good luck!

      Hey, sorry it took so long to answer. We just did a followup video on making minicomics and we included some stuff about Procreate. It's linked at the end of this video. Hope it helps. The easiest way to make the grid, no matter what paper size you're working on and no matter what app you're in, is just to remember that you need 4 evenly spaced columns, and 2 rows. Once you divide your page like that, you're set. Good luck!

If you're just lettering with it on a project like a mini comic it should work just fine. (the RT is the retractable, click pen version that I use. How can I make the grid digitally? Like what would be the measurements to use on CSP?

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Set up a document that’s the same size as the paper you’re going to print on, landscape orientation. For any size paper, you’d divide the top and bottom in half with a guide/line, and divide across in quarters. So, for 11x8.5 paper, the line that divides top and bottom is set at 4.25 (half of 8.5), and the lines dividing across are at 2.75, 5.5, and 8.25 (11 divided in quarters). Unless I got my math wrong. It’s early and I haven’t had any coffee yet. 🙂

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure you could do just about anything, you'd just have to find the right cut/fold pattern. The one we use gives us, we think, as many pages as possible out of one sheet of A4, while allowing the pages to remain a decent size for drawings. Now...if you want BIGGER images, we DID try it out on larger paper (same cut, same fold) and it just makes a larger version of the minicomic. But three to five pictures? You might have to do a little experimenting. Good luck!

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Deniz! Just trying to wrap my head around your question so if I get this wrong, apologies: You can definitely staple the binding to make it more secure, and you can definitely staple two of them together at the binding to get twice as many pages. But as far as "compact"....if you're asking if you can fold it yet again across the middle, then staple it at the new binding to make an even tinier, more compact comic.....I think you probably could. I'm fiddling with one right now and I think you'd just have to make a couple extra cuts on the page edges that need to be separated. Never thought about doing that, but I think it could be done. Hope I understood that question, thanks for watching!

      🙂 It means there is a man named Paul McCall who is very very tall, and sometimes it leads to inconvenient situations for him socially.

      Yeah, roughly. Here in the states we have an 8.5 in x 11 in standard, but A4 is pretty close to that. As long as you do the folds and cut correctly, just about any size paper will do. Good luck!

      Ok, how can I help? It’s just a way of folding and cutting a sheet of paper to make an 8-page mini-comic. I tried to explain it simply, but if this video doesn’t answer all your questions, I know there are other people on TH-cam who have similar videos and might explain it better.

    How are the pages so clean when I cut the papers into pages it’s trash

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, i screwed up a bunch of them when i was first trying it. I think a lot has to do with making sure the folds are in the right places. And it's trial and error with the art, making sure it's in the right place and doesn't get caught in a fold. And with the cutting, I always use a craft knife and ruler. Cut myself a lot too so....be more careful than I am. Good luck.

    You have to use your own Drawing not computer

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the computer won't draw it for you. But you can either draw it with traditional media on paper, or you can use a stylus/tablet to draw it in a drawing app. Either way, it's drawing. Cheers!

    Bro How To Draw?🤔🤔

    • @LongLostFriendStudio
      @LongLostFriendStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, if you 're looking for a "How To Draw" video, we don't do too many of that type of vid because everyone approaches drawing differently and there's really no 'wrong way' to do it....but we do get comments like this once in a while, so maybe we'll work on something like this for the future. I'll say this, though: the REAL key to drawing well, and getting something down on paper (or screen) that you like is to draw constantly. Just practice every day. Thanks for watching!
