    I respect this a lot because usually when artists do a "sketchbook tour", they just show off the pages finished art, without showing any of the practice work pages that went into it.

    As an illustrator, i love seeing people get (back) into drawing!
    Some tips if they are worth anything:
    - thinking in shapes is great indeed, but you are still mostly thinking in lines and contours (which can also be a choice of course) it helps to add value to the shapes (shadow and light)it helps you create/see depth, but you dont nessecarily have to shade the drawing
    -look around, draw from life (perhaps outside), you get a very fun diverse set of subjects from vehicles to still lives of a breakfast table (like a visual diary, i've got those dating back to when i was 12, very valuable). This also helps with putting the objects in an environment (background)
    - since you read a bunch, perhaps combine text with art, see how they interact, play with typography (also a form of drawing) and/or illustrate scenes from books if you're inspired.
    - confident strong 'bad' linework is better than shaky/scratchy, more accurate linework (if that makes sense, in my opinion) you can start with a reference or from life but dont feel like you always have to reproduce it exactly.
    - you can take lineweight into consideration, you can darken/thicken parts of the line to emphasize shadow or overlapping for example, this makes it so you can have bold lines without them looking too stiff
    -feel free to mess around with materials (later), it can make quite a difference and it doens't have to be expensive. I like ballpoint for example, it forces me to be less hesitant and is a bit smoother than pencil imo
    I have a bookstagram btw where i redesign bookcovers by hand, it's @boekenbeeld (recently did Lispector!)
    Wishing you lots of drawing-joy ^_^

    It's really neat seeing your journey in all these creative areas (drawing, piano, etc.)! Makes me want to brush up on drawing and piano too. I also have a habit of making legs too short I felt that in my soul haha. Also, I really enjoyed seeing your process and improvements with the "smoking on the bed" drawing - reminded me of drafting panels for comics. Composition is hard af, but I think you have an eye for it!

    As far as drawing is concerned, it looks like you're making excellent progress. The best advice I could give would be to draw from life as much as possible. Photo reference is excellent, especially when you don't have something on hand or a model to pose for you, but I think going out into the world and drawing people and places and things will really help. There's a line of action in every living thing (humans included), which is basically just the line you can trace through a body to describe the energy or movement of that living thing. It's really great practice to challenge yourself to draw things in motion. ie Go to a public square are draw people as they walk by. Don't worry about features: focus on the way their bodies move and try to capture, as quickly as possible before they leave your field of view, to capture their movement as accurately as you can. Even a stationary body has movement and action. Hope this helps.

      eeee okok my immediate thought was that i need to wait to get better before drawing in public but that seems like a super good way to grow - maybe i can convince a friend to draw w me so i dont feel weird about it lol & thanks for that i dont rlly watch my vids outside of editing so i never noticed that, ill look up if theres a way to balance it all at once

      @@alsopatoSure thing! And yeah, drawing with a friend can be great motivation to break out of the comfort zones you might not realize that you're putting yourself in. In my experience, people don't usually mind if you're drawing them. Hell, they don't usually seem to notice lol.

    great video!! i love your vlogs and its dope that youre getting into drawing ,, ive been drawing for like 5 years now and i think the times where i saw the most improvement was when i studied perspective, and worked on copying artists i admired (without claiming their work as my own obviously). if youre interested drawabox is a free online course but it gets kinda tedious. if i could tell younger me anything though, it would be to make finished pieces. all i ever did was doodle in my sketchbook bc i thought i wasnt good enough to make a finished piece. honestly i think those are the ones that matter most though, so just go for it and commit to making things. also, for figure drawing (which i am still not great at), think of it like youre constructing the figure in a 3d sense, rather than replicating the photo in 2d squares. it helps with depth and ties into shading/perspective. im just rambling but i hope any of this is at all helpful lol. im no expert but above all, just stick with it and make stuff you like! once again, love the video :))

      great advice! im getting back into drawing rn and can definitely relate to the "commiting to finishing pieces" part, i always tend to spend too much time and studies and then get burnt out. making more finished pieces is a lot more fun and you have nicer things to look back on than just pages full of pencil sketches lol

      @alsopato  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      okay sweeeeeet ty & i feel like drawabox would lead to burnout its a little offputting idk idk but thats good advice i def want to spend more time on individual stuff
