Do you ever use Canva’s free image library for reference photos? They have almost anything you could ask for!

What a great watercolor tutorial on value. I found this so informative in an area I so struggle to overcome using watercolors! I was a previous acrylic painter as well and it’s like unwinding everything you learned now to master this transparent medium. Can’t wait to learn more with your very easy to understand tutorials.

Thank you for this! I have been painting images I create in my own head, I can see why paying attention to value is so important!

Yes! Reference images are certainly helpful, but nothing beats that feeling of creating from our minds! Thank you for your comment.

😂 that comes in handy when the subject you’re painting is your cat!

Thanks! It really did take the complexity out of values. Fingers crossed, hoping the full scene will go as smoothly. Best of luck to you in your watercolor journey!

After numerous videos over the years, colour books, art tips and tricks, and then realized The first thing I need to work on is my own patience (laziness).
I start and then go 'nope too much work' lol.
slap dash, swatch and my own version of 'loose' watercolour (translation - lazy, one shot and done)
And made peace with myself that this is who I will be as a 55 y/o beginner.

I know the feeling! I think that’s exactly why I don’t use reference images often and tend to avoid sketching beforehand. Little by little I’m working on patience as well. 😁
