If it has to do with arts & crafts, I WANNA TRY IT! If this sounds anything like you, I invite you to join me on this artistic journey as I finally make arts and crafts a priority in my life.
I’ll be posting easy art tutorials for beginners. I’ll also be testing out art supplies, and learning new crafting techniques. Junk journals, watercolors, charcoal sketching, acrylic painting … let’s do it all!

What I would tell my past self after making 100 YouTube videos. 100 thoughts from a new creator.
I’ve posted 100 videos on TH-cam. 100! These are my thoughts and observations from 6 months on the platform. Here are the 100 things I would tell my former self if I could go back in time to when I was just starting out. I hope some of these items will be helpful to those of you who are just beginning your TH-cam journey or are looking to start your new channel. I still have so much to learn, but little by little I’m starting to feel more confident about being a creator here on TH-cam. Thanks for watching!
Welcome to my art channel, where we learn and grow together. If you like watercolor painting, paper crafts, junk journaling, charcoal sketching, and basically all things arts and crafts, then I’d like to invite you to join us!

Winsor & Newton paints vs cake watercolor palette. Pros and cons. Side by sides. Worth the price?
Thanks for this review.
I've got them in different sizes, been using them for years in my wildlife paintings for fur xx
I can see how that would be quite useful for wildlife 💕
SOLD. I need one.
😂 they’re a lot of fun! You’ll have to let me know how you like it.
Very cool, thanks!
You bet!
I use it for hair and fur with acrylics and oil
Good to know! I have basically zero experience with oil painting. Maybe someday.
You said Craft Warehouse and I knew you were local! LOL! I don't have these brushes but I have what I think is called a 'rake' or 'comb' brush from decades ago. It has a similar cut into the brush to give you streaks instead of a flat mass. I think I bought it for acrylics, so it was probably back in the 80s or early 90s. I do like Royal and Langnickel brushes. They seem to be good value for the money. I also like their dagger brushes for watercolor. I have a few - different brands. The R&L were recommended for an online watercolor class and they were a good addition. I picked up two natural hair daggers when there was a Utrecht in Portland. They respond much differently. Brushes are an addiction....
Yes, PNW!! Craft warehouse can be pricey, but I love going there to look around and see what’s new. Thanks for the brush recommendations. I have 2 inexpensive sets I use almost exclusively and I’m slowly branching out.
These brushes are for animal fur and hair
I haven’t tried hair yet!
Fantastic video!!! Never would have known it was your first!!!!! Love LoVe LOVE these ink and wash eucalyptus ♥️♥️♥️ I’m a big fan of ink and wash because I’m still a beginner watercolor artist and I think ink and wash can look quite impressive 😂! So so happy I found your channel 😍💖
Thanks so much!! I really need to play around more with ink and wash. I always seem to forget how much I love it, so thanks for the reminder.
So happy to have found your channel ❤ Lovely potted plant tutorials!!! I will give them a try. Thank you so much ☺️😍😘
Welcome! I hope you have fun with it. 💕
Thanks Jamie ... i have never seen these brushes before . I think i might have to give them a go . I do like the grasses and agree they would be great for fur and feathers etc .
Have fun! Let me know if you come up with any other uses for these brushes. 😄
I have always been curious about how bricks are painted. What colors did you use here? I like the effect you achieved.
Thank you. I used mainly burnt umber and burnt sienna. For the white, you could probably use a gouache or something, but I just used what I had on hand- slightly watered down gesso!
I do own the flat brush. I bought it because I thought it would be great for grass but I see a bigger potential in its use now. I’m fairly new to watercolor painting and often think out of the box to approach techniques. Thank you for sharing 💕🎨
That’s great! Let me know how it goes as you continue to experiment with this brush.
💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you!
Do you have a favorite paintbrush? I’d say a size 1 angle brush is my fave, though I did enjoy trying out the wisp. 🖌️🎨
For me the green, blue and gray from the forest set granulated great (only have a 3x5ml set). Depends a lot on your paper and water amount.
Oh, good to know! I really did love the forest set! I try not to judge the dots too harshly, as I’m sure working from a tube or palette is much better.
So Pretty!😍 I can't wait to try painting these!
Thank you. Have fun!
Nice review. I felt the same way with the 2 sets of Schmincke I bought. I was disappointed in the granulations.
Thank you. Beautiful colors, for sure… just not what I was hoping for.
If I make a similar card can I sign my name or your name. I do not sell anything that I paint.
Your own name. Even if you paint something similar, I’m sure yours will be one of a kind!
@@MatchesClashes Been painting for 25 years after reading Painting on the right side of the brain by Betty Edwards along with some free classes. Always going back and forth between just w.c. or w.c. with ink which gives the painting more depth.
I’ll have to look into that book. Thanks for the recommendation. I also enjoy ink with watercolor at times. Oh, the possibilities!
@@MatchesClashes Sorry it is Drawing on the right side of the brain by Betty Edwards, excellent for anyone who says they can't draw, etc.
It's hard to be brave and let go in watercolor...working on that myself ❤
Go for it! It is difficult but so worth it 😁
Absolutely love this

Beautiful! What a wonderful idea!👍
Thank you so much 😊

So pretty! And your commentary is very entertaining 😁👏👏👏👏🙏👌
Thank you! 😁
I agree with being able utilize the project while damp.
Good to hear I’m not alone 😁
@MatchesClashes , logically if it's dry you consider the outline, if it's wet you consider the bleed... if it's damp you consider BOTH, works for me!
I just love this!!!
Thank you! 💕
I used to use a painful called Twinkling h2o metallic water colour. Their suggestion was to lightly mist them with water, and let them sit for a moment beflre using them. It wakes up the pigment and mica
It looks like these are similar. A few seconds after the water is added, they start dancing 🎶
Great job breaking this down! One thing to keep in mind is that even using the same light color on top of the previously painted area will result in a darker tone. So you don't always have to add a darker tone paint to create a darker value. I hope that makes sense.
Great point! Plus, it’s probably easier to use the same color over top rather than mixing up a darker blend. Thanks for sharing that!
I like both precise and whimsical styles, fun to mix it up. Can I ask what size square was your paper and what size brush did you use? Thank you!
Of course! The paper is cut down to 3”x3”. The brushes are size 1 for the angular and size 0/0 for the small detail. I have a miniature set of brushes that I absolutely love. I rarely use anything outside of that set.
@MatchesClashes absolutely adorable!! I can't wait to try and thx so much for the info!
I just found your channel, you are wonderful!!! I love your style and so helpful for me as a beginner.
Thank you so much! 😊
We use the same bottle! However, never thought about using it in that way. Bravo! That was awesome. I’m going to try it today.😊👍
Haha! That spray bottle comes in handy for many purposes. 😁
Enjoying how you explain the process in your videos. You have a new subscriber.😊👍
Yay! Welcome aboard!
Painting while paying attention to values in monochromatic colour seems achievable, but when it comes to painting different values in different colours, everything gets confused! Greatly appreciated if you could do a video showing how to have correct tonal values for different items in different colours, for example sea/leaves/rocks or even water in the foreground as compared to same in the middle or distant background! Thanking you in anticipation of a prompt response. Warmest regards from Mauritius!
You are absolutely correct. Adding the various colors makes it far more challenging. I have 2 more videos about value- one where I do a value study of a landscape, and another where I incorporate the colors, building off of the ideas from the previous video. I’ll link the first one below. I like your idea though of going into more details about tonal values in different colors. I’m still in “learning mode” as well, but I’ll begin researching and experimenting. 😁 Using a different method for my watercolor value study. You won’t believe how easy this makes it! th-cam.com/video/W__cmNHi5kY/w-d-xo.html
@@MatchesClashes Thank you very much! Lots of appreciation for such a quick reply.I skimmed through the two videos you've sent the links, & these really helped to "reduce my fear" on reconciling with the ability to learn ascribing colour values in watercolour paintings to some extent. Sorry, I'm still a beginner, even in my very early seventies, a frightful theorician( using most of my time, some money & effort in buying literature/books & related materials) instead of "putting my hands in the dough". I have, in the past( about 5 yrs now!) tried my hands in oil, watercolour, acrylics, pastels & mixed techniques, but since then, nothing doing apart from" specialising " in watching art videos on youtube. Time now to make a bold start. May be it was an unnecessarily long comment, but it enabled me to release some " pressure".Thank you very much!
I like to paint on no bigger than A5 but I find I end up with a busy piece. These tips are very helpful especially the editing and limited colour palette. I too am guilty of jumping straight in without sketching, which could be why my pictures are too heavy. I have so much to learn. Thank you 🇯🇪🇬🇧
I’m glad this was helpful. One of these days I’ll record myself painting an 18”x24” landscape. It’ll be a challenge trying to upsize and plan for a larger canvas. I’ll probably wind up with 27,000 trees 🤣
Such a lovely video 💚
Thank you so much 😊
What a great watercolor tutorial on value. I found this so informative in an area I so struggle to overcome using watercolors! I was a previous acrylic painter as well and it’s like unwinding everything you learned now to master this transparent medium. Can’t wait to learn more with your very easy to understand tutorials.
Glad it was helpful. Watercolors are a whole new world!
