A POV drive in the 20201 Kia Soul. The Kia Soul has always been a BTTD favorite and this latest generation, with a surprisingly smooth and entertaining CVT, is actually fun to drive! Compared to other compacts at this price point, there is no better combination of practicality, features, room, and personality. And the CVT (iVT in Kia speak) really shows the promise of what a CVT can be....seamless, in the background, and making the most of the engine's performance. Yes, there is a recall on the 2020 and 2021 with the 2.0 liter engine due to issues with the piston rings and that stinks. But assuming Kia addresses that and those on the lot now and in manufacturing are clear of that issue, this does deserve a look!

I bought a new 2021 Kia Soul S in Gravity Gray on 6/26/21 and I already love it. The car handles well, like a go cart, turns on a dime, is very quiet and they have done a great job with the suspension that hides the fact it is a small car. The ride can be choppy at higher speeds. It has almost anything you could ask for in a small car. The 2.0 engine and the Icvt work well and compliment each other. Ok it's not a 3 litre V6 and that being said it moves out fine and holds speed well. I think Kia knocked this one out of the park

The Soul is a really great car, especially at this price point. I just wish that LED headlights were available in lower trims. Great video!

Yep, but one of many examples of manufacturers trying to hold safety features hostage to the most expensive models.
I agree with you on the headlights. They adequate at best and yellow looking. Some people have upgraded to led and I am thinking of doing the same but not at this time. Need to find out if and how it will affect the warranty. It is less than 2 months old.
@@rickeymitchell8620 Upgrading headlight bulbs won't affect any kind of warranty unless you're like chopping into wires with ballasts or something, which the vast majority of LEDs don't require. The only thing you gotta look out for is finding the good LEDs that last and throw light well. There's a LOT of crappy Chinese LEDs out there that don't work very good and can even be a fire hazard.
But GTR Lighting makes some damn good LEDs. They're like ~$125 a pair, but I have them in my truck and they're about as good as you can get when upgrading to LED. I would imagine they'd be just as amazing in a Soul.
Personally I prefer the halogens. I like that I'm not one of the assholes contributing to blinding drivers at night with ultra bright LED lights. Plus, there's nothing wrong with the stock halogen lights. If they aren't enough for you to see clearly while driving at night, then maybe you shouldn't be driving at night. They are plenty bright.
Great video! I love my 2021 Soul, I've had it almost a month. It's about to go on a trip up the mountains to Ohio. I can't wait to test it out! My other car was not able to make it up the mountains and that was scary! 😳. I love everything about my little Soul.

Great review. I bought the S trim in January and am very pleased. If you live in snow country go for winter tires. You'll keep up with the AWD's with their "all season" tires. Lots of rear passenger room too. Road test one and you'll be hooked. Great deals $3-4 K below MSRP. Out the door @ $20K.

@@BeyondTheTestDrive Survived the recall. No issues. No oil burning, but there are some complaints on the Kia Soul Forum. Smoothest transmission and plenty of giddy-up without noticeable downshifting. Great deals are long gone and only LX's are available around Northern NJ ( June 2022 ). KBB value jumped up above $22 K with 11 K miles and added rear spoiler. Cherry black hides body features I wasn't crazy about. Rear cargo floor ( necessary if you haul lots of stuff like me ) was a $160 option ( dumb, was previously standard on 2nd gen Base Model ). Blasts through snow with tires mentioned earlier. Overall, extremely pleased with my purchase.
I got my S trim in March 2021. So lucky to get it before prices went crazy. Got it for just over $18k + tax. It’s been good so far!

I own a 2020 kia soul lx base model in sparkling silver with almost 27,000 miles on it bought it back in August 2019 with 15 miles on it I just love love love love love love love love love love love this great little car!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m considering getting this car used especially for its safety features and lumbar support. I had a 2005 Suzuki Forenza that I got in 2010. I feel like any car would be an upgrade for sure lol.

I have the 2016 Kia soul with premature engine failure at 87,000 km and just got called for yet another recall👍👍👍👍😏
Oh no. Sorry about that. Hopefully that long warranty is taking care of it. The engine fire risk and more recalls are in the news quite a bit these days.

Dose it have heated seats heated steering wheel
Hi Richard. This specific S trim does not have those features. You can get heated seats on EX trim level. Heated steering wheel is not available. This is for the US. Canada and other northern countries may have heated seats and steering wheel in the lower trim levels. Thanks for the question.
I had a 2012 for a few years and it's really, really hard not to fall in love with this little thing. I had the Exclaim trim with the 164hp (they detuned it since) 2.0L and sunroof and Infinity sound system and I was getting 30mpg city and ~34 hwy depending on how fast you're going since it's not super aerodynamic.
If they made this in a hybrid version with a sunroof and normal, reliable transmission, good LED lighting and peppy enough to do 60 in like 7 seconds....it'd sell like marijuana.
Nice. Thanks for commenting. Folks who laugh at these either had a bad reliability experience or never spent time in one. Lots of potential for Kia to make this more desirable like with more customization and more ‘mini’ like handling.
The IVT transmission in the 2020 and newer models is very nice in my opinion. I love that, from a stop, I can put my foot on the pedal and it stays precisely at around 2k RPMs the whole time I accelerate without any "fake" gear shifting. Optimal efficiency for city driving! And if you really really want to feel like you're "shifting gears" you can switch it to manual mode. I personally have never used that feature because I love the IVTs normal functionality. This is coming from a person who has ONLY driven manual cars up to this point in my life.
I just got a used '21 S about a week ago (December 2023), and i must say it is shockingly roomy. As someone who is used to larger vehicles (Ford Crown Vic, Dodge GC, Kia Sedona 🪦), I don't feel cramped. There's not as much side by side room as I'm used to, but it's by no means puny. It's very easy to clean as well, I can spray and wipe the entire windshield with ease, and the seats have enough space underneath to easily vacuum under.
As far as power is concerned, I already knew that it was going to be down compared to everything else that I've driven, so I wasn't expecting anything quick. But, it's lightweight and has decent power for what it is.
This is the first vehicle I've owned with Lane Keep Assist, and as such it feels extremely unnatural to me. But the steering itself is very direct, and pointy. That to me is one thing I really like.
Fuel mileage, as comparatively good as it is for me, is the biggest disappointment. For some context, I'm a ride share driver and before that I was a cab driver. My Sedona from full to half on the dial could drive 170 miles. The Soul, better mpg aside, is only about 180 miles to halfway. That said, the fuel tank is much smaller than anything that I've driven, so this point is fairly moot.
And finally, the touchscreen and subs system. It's good. Good bass, good treble through the speakers. The touchscreen is nice, and I'm glad that there are buttons to the side of it.
All in all, it's a good car that lives up to it's name.

My 2021 soul S with the 2.0L gets 35-40mpg when I'm not getting stuck at stoplights in town. Most I've ever gotten was right around 40mpg with conservative driving.

Hi I have been Looking All Over the internet for a simple answer on How to Drive my New Kia Soul 2021 my question is: do I have to press the breaks If I'm Going To shift Gears,say from Drive to Park If I'm moving ?T Do you have To press Break and order to turn it on when you turn the key and Do you have to First break to switch from Park to Drive thought my questions can someone please answer them with Straight answer
I think you answered it yourself. Yes, typically for most cars you have to push the brake to : 1 turn it on, 2. switch from park to drive 3. switch from drive to oark. If you have the car what is working for you
