Irvine and Hill both held up Senna for several laps, losing Senna 15-20 seconds. Hill was on slick tires on a drying track, holding up Senna so his teammate Prost in second place could catch him. Irvine then unlapped himself and started scrapping with Hill in front of Senna. What angered Senna further was Irvine's attitude after the race:
    Irvine : Here!
Senna : What the **** do you think you were doing?
    Irvine : I was racing!
Senna : You were racing? Do you know the rule that you're supposed to let the leaders come by when you're a back marker?
Irvine : If you were going fast enough, it was no problem.
Senna : I overtook you! And you went three times off the road in front of me, at the same place, like ****ing idiot, where there was oil. And you were throwing stones and all things in front of me for three laps. When I took you, you realised I was ahead of you. And when I came up behind Hill, because he was on slicks and in difficulties, you should have stayed behind me. You took a very big risk to put me out of the race.
Irvine : Where did I put you in any danger?
Senna : You didn't put me in any danger?
Irvine : Did I touch you? Did I touch you once?
Senna : No, but you were that much from touching me, and I happened to be the ****ing leader. I HAPPENED TO BE THE ****ING LEADER!
Irvine : A miss is as good as a mile.
Senna : I tell you something. If you don't behave properly in the next event, you can just rethink what you do. I can guarantee you that.
Irvine : The stewards said "No problem. Nothing was wrong."
Senna : Yeah? You wait till Australia. You wait till Australia, when the stewards will talk to you. Then you tell me if they tell you this.
Irvine : Hey, I'm out there to do the best for me.
Senna : This is not correct. You want to do well. I understand, because I've been there I understand. But it's very unprofessional. If you are a back marker, because you happen to be lapped ...
Irvine : But I would have followed you if you'd overtaken Hill!
Senna : You should let the leader go by ...
Irvine : I understand that fully!
Senna : ... and not come by and do the things you did. You nearly hit Hill in front of me three times, because I saw, and I could of collected you and him as a result, and that's not the way to do that.
Irvine : But I'm racing! I'm racing! You just happened to ...
Senna : You're not racing! You're driving like a ****ing idiot. You're not a racing driver, you're a ****ing idiot!
Irvine: You talk, you talk. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Senna : I was in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Irvine : Yes. I was battling with Hill.
Senna : Really? Really? Just tell me one thing. Who is supposed to have the call? You, or the leader of the race who comes through to lap you?
Irvine : The leader of the race.
Senna : So what have you done?
Irvine : You, you were too slow, and I had to overtake you to try to get at Hill.
Senna : Really? How did I lap you if I was too slow?
Irvine : Rain. Because on slicks you were quicker than me, on wets you weren't.
Senna : Really? Really? How did I come and overtake you on wets?
    Irvine : Huh?
Senna : How come I overtook you on wets?
    Irvine : I can't remember that. I don't actually remember the race.
Senna : Exactly. Because you are not competent enough to remember. That's how it goes you know.
Irvine : Fair enough. Fair enough. That's what you think.
Senna : You be careful guy.
Irvine : I will. I'll watch out for you.
Senna : You're gonna have problems not with me only, but with lots of other guys, also the FIA.
    Irvine : Yeah?
    Senna : You bet.
    Irvine : Yeah? Good.
Senna : Yeah? It's good to know that.
Irvine : See you out there.
Senna : It's good to know that.
Irvine : See you out there ...
Appearing to turn away Senna then turns back and hits Irvine with his left hand. The blow lands on the right side of Irvine's head. Irvine loses his balance and falls off the table. Senna is still shouting as he is hustled towards the door.
    Irvine yells "Insurance claim there!"
Senna (leaving) retorts "You got to learn to respect where you're going wrong!"

Exceprt here, he was wrong. Irvine was fighting the Williams for the Top 6, Senna was more than 30s from the 2nd and was an obstacle to Irvine in his view to the 6th position.
It wasn't the first lap Senna was blocking Irvine without overtaking the Williams as if he was protecting his future team.
Senna was the one proventing Irvine to make a move on the Williams, Irvine provent Senna of nothing.
Senna did certainly more wrong to Irvine than Irvine did to him. Except hurting his ego.

Irvine was idiot. He thought he is racing against Senna and saying such things. Senna in that car against Irvine we all know can overtake Irvine anytime. Factually it were last few laps and strategically Senna was just cautiously finishing the race and was not racing to overtake. Back markers who are a lap behind and has no chance are unnecessary jumping and dodging in front of a clear winner. That is why Edie Irvine is now where today.

@nysdgiants Absolutely. He was a great driver, but then again he also had this "I'm never wrong" mentality and tendency to go overboard with his ruthlessness, like in Estoril (Portuguese GP) in 1988 when he attempted to push Prost against the pit wall (identical to the one Schumacher tried on Barrichello in Hungaroring in 2010) and in Suzuka in 1990 when he took both himself and Prost out. Also, he was very cold and rude against Häkkinen, even before he made his McLaren debut in Estoril in 1993, where he beat Senna in the qualifying. And oh boy, did Senna get mad at Häkkinen when he went to ask from him later how did he beat him...

Senna: "You're not racing! You're driving like a ****ing idiot. You're not a racing driver, you're a ****ing idiot!"

Edward Hunter thanks for posting the transcript link. Both drivers are right in their arguments. Senna shouldn't have been blocked but id he's going too slow, and causing Irvine to lose sight of Hill to gain a point (remember Jordan season was pointless before Suzuka), then what is he supposed to do?

    • @GreekSIMRACING

marksandsparks1 Irvine was idiot. He got lapped by Senna twice. When Senna got stack behind Hill struggling in dry tires he attacked in a gap getting between Hill Senna.Almost lost his car twice in the oil, getting touch wheels 3 times with Hill.Senna was surprised by Irvine cos he didn't know him.Let him go with Hill. After settling lap him again.Irvine then hit Derek getting out of race.

Ah, is that Derek Warwick you're referring to? I always forget about that part of the race, seems to be skipped over when people look back at Suzuka '93. I think Irvine was not the nicest of people but in this instance I think his actions made sense given that he was on the better tyres for the conditions; Senna lost time in the end but not enough to put him in danger of losing the race. Him hitting Warwick out is a dick move but also a separate incident.

    • @Brickcellent
      @Brickcellent 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Senna was a massive crybaby and a lot of people let him away with it because he was fast and because he's dead. It's important to remember him as he was. He was an incredible driver but also a very unethical one when he wanted to be, so his point about saying Irvine is an idiot and dangerous is incredibly hypocritical. Irvine had every right to battle it out with Hill on front of Senna.

outside of brazil and japan i dont remember senna having a huge fan base because of how he did drive. he was constantly refered to as bullyimg opponents out of the way. only in later yrs after he died did suddenly his bully moves get renamed to legend status. at best he was referred to as agressive in his moves back then ...that said it was entertaining to watch these days the drivers are way to soft complaining about every move of their opposition. Im not a max fan but he sure makes for exciting racing.

It usually dissapears shortly thereafter again. I’ve seen it dozens of times through the years. I guess that’s one of the phases to evolve through on the way to the title.

I don’t hate anyone but it’s clear that era everybody hated Senna, Balestre,Max Mosely, Patrik Head, Adrian Newey, they gave him the worst car in 1994, while they gave Prost the best in 93, and Mansell in 92,FIA really looked at Senna as the enemy, now they know they were wrong but it’s too too late.

So Funny. When Senna does this, it's called ''passion''. Same when Schumacher wanted to attack Coulthard in Spa. But now Max did the same with Ocon, and Max should be banned and it's immaturity and what more. And tbh, Irvine's action on Senna wasn't even that terrible imo, it was Senna who thought he was God and nobody could unlap himself on him.

    • @jakubkrcma
      @jakubkrcma 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

It is VERY different when Ocon was ACTUALLY the fastest car on the track and would cause NO problem to Verstappen if Verstappen simply let him through. Ocon would just drive away on fresh supersofts. Senna lost a LOT of time because of backmarkers AND Irvine even interfered with a fight between Ayrton and Damon!!! The way Irvine drove near Senna was RIDICULOUS, not COOL! The way Ocon drove was COOL and Max left no room and CAUSED the collision. Then Ocon got an UNJUST penalty AND Max shoved Ocon in the paddock. Max should get a race ban for that (because Ocon was innocent)! And the penalty Ocon unfairly received. There have already been several times someone got a penalty for Max's faults. The stewards are a "YOKE".

Indeed. You are so right. Some morrons say Verstappen could have given Ocon some space. But which normal soul would have thought that Ocon wanted to unlap himself. That is the point. Everyone is talking like it’s normal especially with the leader of the race. There had to become a rule to just forbid this.

The difference is her Senna admitted he was wrong. Max didnt and Max has the reputation to act stupid off and on track frequently. Second, Senna is a 3 time F1 world champion compared to Max who has won 0 world titles and less wins than Senna. Third, Ocon was quicker than Max at that point and further more Max could have left more space. See the footage of Senna again and youll notice that Senna doesnt shove Irvine into to grass or kerb unlike Max who wanted to bang wheels with Ocon un (or not) intentionally.

I was so little when my dad took me to the Brazilian GP in "93" to see fellow countryman Aryton Senna race. I remember crying😭 for hours when my dad told me he died while racing in Italy. Descanse em paz Aryton.💋😢 Racing is racing whether you're racing in the lead and lapping cars or racing to try and get your lap back. Mwah!💋

Dear senna, if you no longer go for a gap which exists, then you are no longer a racing driver. wasn't this what you said?

    • @evansafari5151
      @evansafari5151 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

There was no gap, Irvine was just hurling himself at Senna and Hill and almost took them out of the race. He then proceeded to ram another driver off the road later on in the race.
