tragic how they came closer and almost became friends after Prost had ended his career in 93 only for Senna to lose his life not even half a year later.
what makes you think they "almost became friends"? If you're the type of fanatic that thinks Prost is lying about his deceased colleague 25 years later, you probably don't believe his remark on the whole "Senna good guy vs Mafia Belestre noseman Prost" duck tale. They were on good terms for years before Imola. Senna used to call Prost constantly (monthly at least) asking Prost to return to F1. They also visited each other, and exchanged words on race days. Also, Prost said, Senna confided something very personal to him in the last months before Imola. Of course, Prost being the "Belestre Mafia Suzuka dood it was a scam dood" guy that he is, he vowed he will never give the journos that bit of info.
I got up in the small hours to watch Suzuka 1990 and was left utterly astonished by Senna’s actions. A truly great driver who sullied his career with some regrettable acts of poor sportsmanship.

Actually no one should have heard it beyond the small TV crew and Prost since Senna said it before the segment that was to be recorded and broadcasted on french TV. When the TF1 crew heard it, they were a bit puzzled at first and wondered what to do with it, so they asked Senna if they could broadcast it on TV as well and he said yes. I think it was important for him at that point to show that there were no bad feelings left between himself and Prost.
Senna push the boundaries in virtually everything he did. A astonishing talent fueled by extreme emotion and desire to win. We may never see another driver like this in our lifetime.
Armando Sturzenegger don’t be stupid. The psychology of the two are very different. Senna wanted to win at any cost, or pretty much nearly. Hamilton shows a lot more restraint, and that’s a good thing.
"To many, there never has been, nor ever will be - anyone to compare with Ayrton Senna." That's what Murray Walker said in a documentary shortly after Sennas death. I think his statement is right.

Save for my grandfather and Ayrton Senna, I have no idols. I have raced and seen what I call the tunnel and Senna called transcending reality. To step outside yourself, with your life on the line, is the most euphoric feeling that I have felt. Your body and instinct simply take over and your active mind is an uninterested observer. I believe Senna often reached this level, and he always raced on instinct and feel. He raced with his heart and that’s why I love him. It would be easy for me to hate Prost, but I love him too. He pushed my idol to levels that he would not have achieved without Prost. So I salute you Alain, I admire and respect you. Without you I would never have had the driver I always tried to be, thank you professor.
The fastest, and his nemesis. Prost is the most underrated driver despite the 4 titles (could be lot more....) These two made the history of this sport on his golden era. Thank you guys, the emotional part is the most important, and adelaide was for me the number 1. I barely cant hold my tears...

No, you don’t win 4 world championship if you aren’t a champ. Prost except the first year in f1 he always fighted for the title. He often won against Senna and the battle was always hard. McLaren, Renault and Williams don’t take a driver if he isn’t really strong. Berger? Only a good diver, non a champ. On 1996 with the Benetton Renault that won on 1995 he done really few good things. The same on 1989 with Ferrari. Remember how Prost was fast on 1990 with Ferrari! Prost was the only one that made difficult Senna’s life.
The reason i started watching F1 races when i was a boy, back in the '80... The greatest of all times... Mr Ayrton Senna... I still can't accept the fact that he died so young... I don't have enough words to describe my feelings for this man and his great personality... Thank you F1 for bringing back the memories...
I know this has nothing to do with Senna vs Prost ... but I really have to congratulate to whoever shared this footage and improved its quality. There are some clips of the races and press conferences where the images are so clear, with such a quality that in a moment I felt I was in that press conference, watching Senna in person. Just for a second it was a magical moment. Sorry for the sentimentality.
It lacked more great moments from Prost Like Monaco 88' Silverstone 93' And I am Brazilian, Senna is my ultimate idol, but we must recognize Prost is one of the greatest as Senna was
That podium where Senna invited Prost to join him was the last ever podium for both of them in F1. They became friends after that. Too bad their friendship was short lived.
Their relationship actually first began to sour at Estoril in 1988 (not Imola 1989) when Senna tried to force Prost into the pit wall at almost 280 km/h as Prost was passing him.
I just can't hold my tears everytime I see Senna on action. He was incredible, and the reason why I'm so ferociously a F1 fan. Hamilton has his own bright, Vettel does also has in other way, Shumacher is genius, but Senna is the man. God, the almighty could has him in a very good place.
It's sad to know that non-Brazilians will never know the joy of listening Galvão Bueno shouting "AYYYYRTON SENNA DO BRASIL!" and hearing his victory theme right after. It's one of the most amazing sounds ever.
"I am bad at math" - Senna fans, thinking that Senna would’ve been champion without the disqualification. Spoiler: he needed to win in Adelaide too and he crashed out of he race.
@James Ward FL : ok, prost beats him, but senna often led from the front (he beats prost when it comes to laps led), so fl is not that relevant, it's meaningful if the race is competitive at the front point per race : i said it before, prost was more consistent, that doens't mean he was faster facts are facts, and the most reasonable way to see who was faster on sundays is looking at the results when both racers crossed the finish line, and senna endend in front of prost 14 times and prost endend in front of senna 6.

8:08 - The quote which people use to defend aggressive driving without knowing the circumstances in which those words had been said. That's why I hate when people use this quote. Because it's been said to defend the deliberate destroying of your rival.
It’s one of the worst quotes in racing because of the circumstances it was said in and how wrong it is. He used it to defend his deliberate crash. Senna had much better quotes, but sadly only the worst one gets repeated over and over again. Maybe Schumacher should’ve said "If you don’t close the gap, you’re no longer a racing driver" in 1997.
Two amazing pilots. I was a kid and watch F1 racing every week. What a beautiful F1 time... Dois pilotos admiráveis. Eu era criança e assistia às corridas todos os domingos. Foi uma fase lindíssima da Fórmula 1.
I'm watching this after Lewis Hamilton incident with max. It's the same. " If you no longer go for the existing gap, your no longer a racing driver" - ayrton senna 🏎️🏎️🔥
I was 10 years old when Senna died so I don't remember too much, but I remember seeing photos from the funeral in magazines and Prost looked completely devastated, his face was the personification of sadness, probably the saddest face in the crowd of sad faces (apart from Senna's family)
I think the late 80s and early 90s F1 car profile defines the quintessential look of an F1 machine to me, despite being a recent follower of the sport. Elegant overhead intake, very flat and sleek look with a body that hugs the track, and a two-dimensional front wing. The simpler lines and the larger rear wing structure completes the look.
It is a great quote but that was not really a gap Senna was going for at Japan 1990. Can't win the race on the 1st lap (especially 1st corner) but you can certainly lose it.
Senna was not justifying Suzuka 1990 when he said that though. He was answering Jackie Stewart, who was questioning his driving style, mentioning the number of collisions that Senna take part in the last seasons/races back then. That clip with the Suzuka 1990 incident was out of context.
Murray's commentary just makes it more iconic: "and it's happened imediately! This is amazing!" and "well, that is amzing, but i fear... absolutely... predictable"
Worth mentioning... Prost actually won the 1988 season. He scored more points (105) than Senna (94), but lost because only the 11 best result-rule Prost lost...
In 1988 when Senna won the championship in Japan the score was 8x6 wins against Prost, DESPITE two silly accidents when Senna was comfortably leading the Monaco GP, 50 seconds ahead of Prost, and at the lap before last in Monza, a race he led from the start. Had Senna been less of a rookie anxious for his first title against the reigning twice world champion he would have crushed Prost 10x5 wins up to Suzuka.
Remembering Tamburello, the bad luck factor killed Senna, because Tamburello is a curve of big speed and from an unavoidable way, the drivers go in there in high speed. Piquet, Berger and Alboreto have suffered ugly accidents on Tamburello. All of them have escaped well. Senna was the unique that have lost his life. If the steering bar went 15 centimeters to the left, Senna probably still to be here, between us. The irony is that Senna had luck in many moments in his private life and in his career, but in the moment that he most needed of luck, he hadn't. Fucking Tamburello! That fucking curve have took from us the magic duels between Schumacher and Senna, that will would happend, for sure. Can you imagine it? Fucking Tamburello!
Who else is watching this after the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP ? Lewis - Max rivalry is almost on par with Prost - Senna and I'm afraid it might finish the same way in Abu Dhabi.
As teammates, Prost and Senna won 25 of the 32 races held during the 1988 and 1989 seasons. Senna had 14 victories and 26 pole positions, whilst Prost had 11 victories and 4 pole positions. On the other hand, Prost amassed 163 (186) points, 25 podiums and set 12 fastest laps whilst Senna amassed 150 (154) points, 18 podiums and set 6 fastest laps. They each won one Word Championship. After their time as teammates, Senna amassed 21 victories to Prost's 12. During the ten-year period (1984-1993) in which both drivers were active, Senna won three championships while Prost won four during the same period, including a one-year sabbatical by Prost during 1992.

what makes you think they "almost became friends"?
A truly great driver who sullied his career with some regrettable acts of poor sportsmanship.
revenge is fair
"If you no longer go for a gap that exist, you are no longer a racing driver. Because we are competing, we are competing to win, and the main motivation to all of us, is to compete for victory, not to come second, third, fourth or fifth." -- Senna.
Legendary quote! Perhaps, the most famous of all Senna had ever sad. Very very and very motivational.
I’d have ended the video with the sad “a special hello to my dear friend Alain - we all miss you, Alain” radio. Sad, but that finishes their Legendary Rivalry, the Greatest in the whole Sport History (with Federer-Nadal), in the only possible and right way.
Damn right. Too bad this message is not well known outside of Brazil and France, having been broadcast on French network TF1.
Vi what about Ronaldo vs Messi ?
Notice in the radio he switched from "My" to "Our dear friend"
He tried to not make it too personal, but it's obvious that he's missing fighting Prost on the track.
@@fatmanjr7215 there is no rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi. They have basically said it themselves, and anyone who thinks CR7 is even close to Messi is an idiot
Senna is overrated. Prost has beaten him. Doesn't that mean that Prost is better than Senna?
Your logic is of a child. You need help.

You can't talk about Ayrton without talking about Alain! The same in reverse! Both needed each other to become legends
"If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver."
"if you go for a gap that no longer exists, you are Maldonado"
"If you go for a gap that only exists in the run-off area, you are Verstappen."
Pretty convenient to say that after you deliberately take out your title rival (as Senna himself admitted later)

lol Prost was never underrated he always features top 5 f1 driver on lists of the kind
Prost is underrated by people that know very little of f1. Prost is like Senna with different ways.

#1,
That podium where Senna invited Prost to join him was the last ever podium for both of them in F1. They became friends after that. Too bad their friendship was short lived.
Best times in F1.
Their relationship actually first began to sour at Estoril in 1988 (not Imola 1989) when Senna tried to force Prost into the pit wall at almost 280 km/h as Prost was passing him.
One of the most memorable relationships in general sports. Terrific countdown, although all moments are great
I just can't hold my tears everytime I see Senna on action. He was incredible, and the reason why I'm so ferociously a F1 fan. Hamilton has his own bright, Vettel does also has in other way, Shumacher is genius, but Senna is the man. God, the almighty could has him in a very good place.

Races both finished : Senna beats Prost 14x6
@James Ward i know prost was more consistent, all im saying is that he wasn't faster on sundays, races both finished means more than FL
@James Ward FL : ok, prost beats him, but senna often led from the front (he beats prost when it comes to laps led), so fl is not that relevant, it's meaningful if the race is competitive at the front
point per race : i said it before, prost was more consistent, that doens't mean he was faster
facts are facts, and the most reasonable way to see who was faster on sundays is looking at the results when both racers crossed the finish line, and senna endend in front of prost 14 times and prost endend in front of senna 6.

It is a great quote but that was not really a gap Senna was going for at Japan 1990. Can't win the race on the 1st lap (especially 1st corner) but you can certainly lose it.
SLMdirtfan that’s true. But you can win a championship 😂
Senna was not justifying Suzuka 1990 when he said that though. He was answering Jackie Stewart, who was questioning his driving style, mentioning the number of collisions that Senna take part in the last seasons/races back then. That clip with the Suzuka 1990 incident was out of context.
