I appreciate your honesty and your ability to make yourself vulnerable. I appreciate that about Darlene too. I think that is what draws me to both of you.
Derrick, I have been wanting to write for a while to thank you for all your openness and your encouragement to others on Mental Health. I suffer from it and loved your post on therapy and how much it helps. It really does. It is hard to explain to others how talking to someone like a therapist. It is different and helps. I understand the fear they feel. At the same time, I know the fulfillment of just doing it. Your mental health post came just as I ended 10 weeks of IOP and hospitalization for depression. Mental Illness is as real as diabetes and cancer. I will deal with it for the rest of my life. I am so far behind in videos of yours and Darlene's, I will pick one night and catch up. Sometimes I watch y'all on TV and I don't know how to like and comment from there. Though I have never met you, Skylar, or your mom, I love you all dearly and It is on my bucket list to meet you someday. Just to see y'all and maybe get a pic would make my day. Love and Happiness to you. Thanks for being real, honest, and helpful.
My name is Juçara. Im brazilian from Rio de Janeiro and my english is not só good but I keep trying. I would like To say Thank you for the series where you’ve put yourself there with your soul. Congrats and go ahead. Yes. You can. Hugs
That series was great, you really put yourself out there. Good work you are a great person and I’m sure you are helping other people with your own story. Keep up the great work!
I also lost my daughter on May 24, 2021, to a drug overdose while she was in a treatment center. I have custody of her youngest and have had her since 2012. Her oldest did drugs at age 12 with her mom. When her mom died, she was suicidal and it was rough. But she found out she was pregnant, I talked her into treatment and she has over 5 months clean. She was homeless out of the treatment center and staying with us till she can find housing. With her doing drugs came arrests and felonies. So finding housing is almost impossible. But she's clean and advanced testing on the baby has proven everything to be ok with the baby. She is having my 3rd great-grandchild in 10 weeks. I am so proud of her and getting to know her clean. She is working a job, dealing with courts and she is such a joy to all of us. She is 24. So I lost my daughter who was an addict. I got her daughters both in my life and taking care of them. Getting clean is the best gift I could receive. I hate my daughter died the way she did and is missing her daughter being clean and about to become a mother. Drug and Alcohol Addictions are so very painful to deal with in families. Glad you and mom are clean and sober.
Wow, so very sorry you lost your daughter. No parent should ever have to go through that. You are awesome for taking your grandchildren in and of course have to be strong for them. All of us have our struggles. It’s nice that Derrick provided a place where people can share and support each other, if only via the internet.
You are such a likeable guy. You're honest and down to earth. No self pity, no excuses, you tell it as it is. You have many fabulous qualities. As some have already said, you and Darlene are just two really wonderful people. 🤗😍
Derrick, again thank you for standing up and telling your story. It is to your credit that you've worked hard to start your road to healing. Minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day........you are succeeding in rebuilding yourself into who you want to become! Ever forward brother, Ever forward!
I am so happy that you and Darlene are doing better. Thanks to her post I was able to put a name to my mother's mental health issues, and mine. You are both very strong individuals. I look forward to watching your videos.
Derrick your the man. .. To be able to share all the pain you’ve been through must of been tough, but now anyone can see how strong you’ve become. You’re an inspiration to us all😎👍
Thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing your story! I commend you on sharing so much of your personal journey, not only thru alcoholism but also regarding coping with anxieties. Your channel is always informative and I hope you continue to grow and evolve in the coming year. For only having started this journey several months ago, you have come so far!! Keep up the good work!
I loved listening to all of it, thanx! You are an inspiration for many. You have overcome so much and im glad you chose to share your life. God Bless you, you are a fine man ✨
Thank you Derrick! You are Awesome!! So is your mom and Skyler (not so sure about grandma, but a ❤ for her too). 'Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' Good people 👍👍👊🙏
Thank you for your insight into your journey with alcohol and now without. I just hope that someone close to me takes this journey and I will support. It’s hard to take the first step but I live in hope.
Love to listen to your stories I agree with the lady who said you and your mum have a gift for telling stories! I've been following your mum for quite a few years now, many's the time,e I wish I could chat to her and tell her (and yourself) how much I admire you both. Addiction are family killers if allowed, my parents were both dependant on it and my siblings and my lives were badly affected by them, we lost our baby sister aged 54, she died an alcoholic. So sad also our mother had tendencies towards narcissism. Myself the most badly affected, I can remember as a young woman telling her" the way you treat me will come back and bite you on the ass" She coldly brushed me off... When the time came and she needed caring for like your grandma? I did not have it in me to want to do what your mum is doing with her mother! I take my hat of to the woman, being treated all your life that way! Then having it in you too care for her 24/7 wow . She is amazing. Let me just say my other 3 sisters stepped up to the plate and looked after her. Love and light from over the pond XXX Trish in UK
You did great and were very courageous putting your story out on YT. It not only is therapeutic for you, but it will help others or their families. Keep the great videos coming our way!
Hi Derrick. Love your stories and how strong of you to be able to do these videos of your life and so glad to see you have come out on the better side. say Hi to your beautiful daughter and your mum. Love from 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺💕💕💕 Jen
Derrick, you are a good example of a determined person. So enjoyed your rehab videos. I had to lol when you went back to music as a sober individual. Years ago, I was told that if you want to stay sober, stay out of wet places. I predict you will go far in your lifetime. 😊
You keep going guy, sounds like you've got a good handle on life, also a good role model for your daughter.nice t get out I. Morning, clear the air for the day.i lived 18 yrs.with hubby being an alcoholic. Know lots about your subject. O seem to be doing good. Keep it up. Doing something right, got lots of followers. Have a great day. ❤ XXOO JOYCE. FROM MICH.
I really liked your series on alcoholism. While I made quilt blocks (from your Mom) I listened. Thanks for the information. Glad your channel is doing great.
as someone who's never been through an addiction it's certainly eye opening. It's always nice to know how others are challenged. Everyone is different and congratulations to you for making those changes for you and Skyler
Once again thank you for putting yourself out there so others can learn from your experiences . I'm sure it isn't easy, but you did a great job. Congratulations and stay strong. 🤗
Can’t remember if I saw you first or your mom. Mississippi in the title grabbed my attention. I do prison ministry and you sharing your journey really helped me in better understanding the folks I deal with. Gave me an idea of teaching coping skills in one of my prisons. Looking forward to the new year and more of your life.
Your videos have really made me think, or re-think my life, sorry my ex died last fall, there are so many things I would like to say to him, wish he had been more open to his feelings instead of hiding them. Thank you so much.
I have very much appreciated your honesty and vulnerability. Your stories help others, I'm sure! I don't know if you'll appreciate this or not, but I'll ask. I watch your mom's channel and I have always wondered if your mom was the only sibling treated the way she was by her narcissistic mother or if other siblings were also treated that way. I'll understand if you don't care to get into this on your channel... But without being able to comment on your mother's channel, I just thought I'd ask! Keep up the good work! (A subscriber in Minnesota!)
Not only do you have great stories, I bet you know a lot of people who's stories aught to be told before it's too late. If you become a forum for great stories of our fellow Americans maybe we'll close the great divide that's happening in our country.
Your mom doesn’t allow comments so please tell her this. I lost my son when he was 44 to alcohol. He had demons from what I believe were because I suspect he was molested by my brother in law. He never told us but you know how you just know? Anyway I admire your mm so much and love listening to her stories and please tell her I admire how she takes care of her mom. I truly admire her and also i am a quilter and I like her approach to the craft.
Thank you for so much. Can’t speak no more really. So grateful
I came to your channel for your mom. I stayed for you. Keep up the great work.👌🏼
Strong and sweet.❤️
I appreciate your honesty and your ability to make yourself vulnerable. I appreciate that about Darlene too. I think that is what draws me to both of you.
Thanks for sharing you story. Congratulations on you sobriety.
I really enjoy listening to you. You have a fantastic smoothing voice. I hope you will continue and God Bless.
