We use to just stick a styrofoam coffee cup in the back of the trans to keep it from leaking. Also I use 50psi fuel hose for my trans lines. A lot easier to feed it through the chassis. But it's not stock appearing.
Your car is coming together. Always amazing when the engine goes in it seems like half of the battle is won. Will be nice to hear it run. Take care, Ed.
nice to see some progress.. i think i would have up graded them engine to the newer type clamshell version 1974-newer just my thoughts.. btw..keep on posting them great nova build video's !!
Hey I have a question abt motor mounts. So on a 74 the research I’ve done says that I need clamshell type mounts on the frame side? But I can’t seem to find a definite answer on what to use for the motor side? Bought the car with no mounts it was originally a 6cyl and it’s going 350
Ok. So the 73-up cars had clamshell mounts. It has a rubber frame mount with just a big metal bowl looking piece for the engine side. I’ll try to get a pic posted on my community page when I get home later.
Did you forget to bolt up the converter, or was that just not recorded? Been a mechanic a long time, I almost never have the luxury of doing a motor with the front clip out of the way. LOL
I didn’t before I put it in. Easier to have the car holding up the engine and trans while turning it. I usually wait until I have distributor installed to put converter bolts in since I set it up to TDC before I set it in car.
Hey man I have looked all over TH-cam and can’t find anything on this. I have a 1977 nova 350 with 700r4 and when I put the headers on it hits the trans crossmember just wondering if you have had this problem
Hey John, I'm a new subscriber and am enjoying your channel. Did you finish the budget build? Not sure if I missed something but was looking forward to the completion. Thanks
Hey, great video! I own a 74 Hatchback and currently its in restoration mode. Looking forward tp when it's this far along. Also, are you looking to sell the left hand quarter panel up on the shelf?? Just wondering,, Keep up the great vids!
Hey bud, can you put a 71 front clip and 71 tail panel on a 73 body and not tell the difference? I ask because my "buget" 71 is turning into nightmare. Found a solid 73 very little to no rust under 3gs complete
Hey man I saw your video on the starter and I need some help Becuse my mechanics said they are not sure the motor will work is there a way you can go back to the starter motor in the nova ans reply to my comment on what I should do??
Another great video man!! I have a question, iv been trying to Research it but it's geting me no where. So my 74 buick apollo has what appears to be a starter relay under the hood bolted to the firewall. I checked it, it is hot. However even with the Ignition on it doesn't start my car. And it doesn't appear to do anything. Even if I take it out there no difference. So I was wondering if you or someone here would know what it's used for. It's bolted to the firewall right above the brake Master cylinder. The relay it self I'd black, and has a rubber push button beside the word start. The bracket that it's attached to is orange. 🤷♂️
Ok. So that is a seat belt starter interlock. One year only. It was designed to allow you to bump the starter from under the hood without the seat belt connected. Once. Lol. Then you had to reset by connecting seat belt to reset it. Or something like that.
Is the automatic transmission crossmember different from the manual shift? Iam installing a 400 turbo and a 383 small block but it looks like it's to far forward? Just wondering if that's what's going on or the mounts are different. Thanks
The TH400 crossmember is different than the th350/Muncie/powerglide. It is offset to the passenger side two inches as well as set back some for the transmission mount.
Nice Brother !! I just put my Engine in my Nova too!! :)
It’s really hard to build a car and work a full time job. Mine has taken me a year, but it’s almost done. Great video John
You got a lot done in roughly 15 minutes and made it look WAY to easy! LOL Good job.
I did part of this yesterday and the rest here in a few minutes, good stuff.
Glad to see you back at it consistently.
Thanks! I’m trying to get a lot more out.
Awesome video. Someone is going to get a super cool project Nova !!!!

Yeah. I have a set of transmission plugs but there’s only a little fluid in it so I wasn’t too worried.
Looking good now.
One step closer to getting it sold my friend… excellent work like always . You sure do make it look easy big shout out to you from Mexico buddy.
Your car is coming together.

Take care, Ed.
Thank you! I’m not a mechanic and I’m trying to get a 350 into a 69. I needed this video.
Awesome!!
Beautiful can’t wait to hear it run
It's been awesome watching you build this. My daughter and I are working on her 68 Nova and watching your videos to keep us motivated.
Awesome! I have a lot more content coming soon!!
Excellent John ur always helpful 👍
Great video can’t wait to see more!!!! 👍🏻as always
Thanks!!
Thank you for posting these videos, they help a lot. They have guided me on some of my decisions when purchasing parts and working on my Nova.
Awesome!! Thanks for watching.
I wish I had the money to buy that nova. I love your videos I was wondering when you was going to work on the nova again 😁
Thanks! I’m going to be working hard on it for next few weeks.
Good job bro 👍👍
Another Great video nice job 👍
Cool ! Looking forward to that wiring harness install ! Take care John ! 🍺

Thanks. Although I didn’t think about using them the headers I’m using won’t fit with the clamshell style mounts.
Good video as always
Good vid 👍🏼
Nice man👍
You showed the intake before and after in a short. How did you get it cleaned?
I washed and scrubbed it with purple power. Then painted it.
It's always good to put a quart of atf in the torque converter before putting it in plus on the snout just a suggestion
That converter was full. It was in my other nova until three weeks ago.
@@Shop209 sorry
Don’t be. I thought I mentioned it in video. Probably exited that part out. Don’t need to be teaching people wrong way. Lol

Awesome work John. Bet it’s a pain to do all the work AND run the camera. Probably slows down the entire process.
Thanks!! Definitely. Especially when I say something dumb and have to start over. Lol.
Which rebuild kid did you get for your th350 and how much was it? Also have you tried it yet?

I haven’t yet but working on it right now. Will have more videos on it in next week.

Thanks! That quarter is a spare for my 73.

I have a video for converting both. The quarter windows are still gonna be different though
@@Shop209 ill check them out. Thanks

cool
what kind of mounts did you use? im looking to use factory frame mounts and solid motor mounts and idk if they fit
I used the factory crane and engine mounts. Some of the solid mounts are really tight.
@@Shop209yeah i might try the factory steel mounts and my morosso solids hopefully they fit
