  • Walkaround video of my 1984 Ford F-250 4x4. I've owned this truck since September 1997 and did a complete frame off restoration between July 1998 and August 1999. Originally equipped with a 351W and C-6 automatic, it now has a 460 with a ZF 5 speed. Engine specs: 460 bored .030" over, forged flat top pistons with 9.5:1 compression, ported 96cc D3VE heads, Edelbrock intake, Holley carb, Crane Powermax cam with pre '73 Cloyes double roller chain, MSD 6AL ignition box with Blaster coil. Transmission is a ZF 5 speed conversion pulled from a '88 F-250 with a custom shifter I patterned after a T-19 four speed shifter so it looks original. Wheels are 305/70R16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 mounted on American Racing Outlaw II 16x10 rims. Tuff Country 2 1/2" suspension lift, Rancho stabilizer, Dana 44 TTB front axle, Sterling 10.25 rear with 3.55 gears. Interior is fully restored with cruise, air conditioning and factory tach.
    Update: I uploaded a new video with several new updates I recently made to the truck:

    A brother from my church just gave me an 84 F250! Even replaced the steering column for me. I haven't asked about too much else I'm hoping to learn more about my vehicle. Like the engine it carries etc. I'm just grateful altogether!

    I have a Ford 1986 F250 w/ a 460 V8. I to painted it black with red lettering Ford on the tail gate to match my red interior. Duel exhaust, headers, and black rims. I finished restoring my truck back in 2016 and I love driving my truck around town. Great video, nice 84 truck.

The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.

    I can’t tell you how nice and wonderful it is to see someone else going through the same process if not similar for such gorgeous vehicles just started working on a 1983. I have two questions not sure if you would get around to me. But did you replace the dash? As well as the fuel sending system?

    • @rowdyredneck1975
      @rowdyredneck1975  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the dash pad was replaced because the speaker grill was cracked and broken which is a very common problem with these trucks. I bought a new reproduction from Dashes Direct. They're not cheap but they are made with the original Ford tooling so they fit and look original.
      This was originally a 351W truck and I'm still using the original fuel system. 460 trucks used a return line to prevent vapor lock. I have had some problems with that in the past, but wrapping the fuel lines with reflective heat wrap solved the issue.

    I am thankful you posted your resto job. Beautiful truck.I am a huge mid 80's ford truck enthusiast. Its nice to watch videos like this with folks who take pride in their work. Quick question... is that a four inch lift? If it is... did your kit come with rear leaf springs? I only ask because I bought a 4 inch rough country lift and it did not come with rear leafs and I am having difficulty finding them. I have a 85 6.9IDI and its bulldogging squatting in the back with the factory leafs. Any advise would be appreciated.

    • @rowdyredneck1975
      @rowdyredneck1975  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adam Boggs
      I have the Tuff Country 2 1/2" EZ-ride lift. Mine came with single leaf lift springs that are added to the rear spring packs. They are thicker and have more of an arc than the factory springs. Mine was more of a leveling kit: 2 1/2" in the front and 1 1/2" in the rear since in stock form these trucks tend to hang lower in the front. Tuff Country makes a 4" suspension lift for the 80-87 F-250 that includes rear springs. The part numbers are: 24822K without shocks, 24822KH with hydraulic shocks, and 24822KN with gas shocks. From what I've always read the Tuff Country lifts ride much better than Rough Country.

    Looking pretty mint! I’ve got an 86 f250 like this, someday going to toss the d44hd for a d60 out of my f350, and possibly the zf5. I’ve heard people say the zf5 is noisy without a dual mass flywheel but also that the DMF sucks. What did you end up with? My zf5 isn’t loud but again, can’t say I know what’s in it for a flywheel. My f250 currently has a c6

    • @rowdyredneck1975
      @rowdyredneck1975  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the Dana 60 swap about a year or two after I made this video, new video here: th-cam.com/video/n8cT2ZSd2Qs/w-d-xo.html
      Dual mass flywheel is diesel only, all gas engines used a regular flywheel. There is a slight gear rollover noise at idle but its not bad at all. The ZF can be pretty noisy on a diesel without a dual mass flywheel though. It does help some if you overfill it by pouring an extra quart of fluid through the shifter hole.

      I used the Tuff Country 2 1/2" suspension lift. It has leaf packs and axle drop brackets for the front and a single leaf for each rear spring set. It lifts the front of the truck 2 1/2" and the back about 1 to 1 1/2" which levels the truck.

    How much was the chassis? Im on a really tight budget so I dont see myself purchasing a new chassis anytime soon. What do you suggest I do?

    Hard for me to tell on these older trucks but is it gas or a diesel?

    Why didn't you put the FORD letters back on the hood?

      It never had them. Those letters were only used in 1980-81. In 1982 they put the Ford emblem in the center of the grille and eliminated the hood lettering.
