Thank you for this. I’m interested in the Scram if it comes to the states, but some of its shortcomings made me feel hesitant. Of course, it has to be worlds better than the Bullet I bought in 2001.
I Totally agree, I have 7000km on a Himalayan now and the gearbox is plenty smooth and never hits any false neutrals. Continental GT650 was similar after 3000km. RE engines are a totally different beast once well broken in and loosened up in my experience!
My three year old Himalayan, 3500 miles, cruises 65 mph perfectly, then quickly to 75 / 80 mph if needed. I think is due to the miles now driven and the engine performing at it's optimum. I'm a UK biker, recent 700 mile trip in France left me deeply impressed with it's touring capabilities. Smiled every mile aswell.
I have been riding for over 60 years, have had several bikes during that span of time, ranging from 125cc dual sports to 4 cylinder rice rockets to V twin cruisers.. Always more fun to ride slow bikes fast than to ride fast bikes slow. High powered bikes will get you into trouble more often and faster, low powered bikes only means that you will arrive later.. Excluding single track and interstate travel most bikes spend most of their time between 35 - 55 mph.. The Scram 411 nails it. There is a saying - keep it simple.. keeping things simple means less to go wrong and less chance of things to break or malfunction.. Think of your riding like you would a vehicle, a 4x4 is not going to perform like a Corvette on the asphalt and visa versa. A 4x4 will go forward under more variety of conditions (weather and road surfaces), they are slower and don't handle as well but will get you there. Street vehicles have their place but are limited as to where you can go. The Scram 411 is the jack of all trades but master of none but in the end, it will get you there with tons of enjoyment.. The Scram 411 doesn't do anything top notch but does everything adequately.. As long as it gets it done, isn't that what is really important..
In India, RE bikes are dream bike, whereas in Western countries, it's a total cheap entry bike😂 But one thing is sure, it build quality is awesome(in term of durability/longevity) One thing to be noted, RE are Low Rev engine, which ultimately means you can ride non stop for "hundreds thousand mile" easily. Where modern scrambler/adv bike, they are usually high rev, which isn't very durable as RE(they will for sure break down before reaching hundred thousand mile)
After watching a number of reviews (including this one), I went to the dealership to test the Scram. I kept all the review opinions in mind, along with the fact that in my just over 30yrs riding, the first 10 were on sports tourers and the last 20 on a '03 1200 Sportster. I was prepared to be underwhelmed. As it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised. In should be on it in about 2 weeks. :)
I actually think the market was missing the niche of lower capacity scramblers. Sure you can get something like a CB500X or 390 Adventure but having a totally stripped down bike with a little bit of ruggedness is perfect for roaming around the country lanes at moderate speed and getting you to work. The Scram 411 just feels spot on in terms of ergonomics and build quality!
That is a great everyday bike especially at the price. A few cheap upgrades would make it better too. In UK the availability of off-road trails is very limited so I’d say it is a street scrambler that will be great for bumbling along and on coffee runs. I really want one!, but I also want one of every bike you reviewed recently Freddie 😉😉😉
@@dontbeazombie4772 we are densely populated by very intolerant people that will complain about any motorcycle on or off road. I know many GS owners that virtually never use their bike off road, same with all adventure bikes over here unfortunately.
@@dontbeazombie4772 The big GS is a bike mostly used for touring really. It's comfortable, has plenty of power, great lights and doesn't care what surface you're touring on.
Superb. But Himalayan, please. The mainstand alone is worth £100 and the screen, pannier frames can be taken off, if necessary, to give a scran look minus the 19 inch wheel. RE has it nailed at the moment. Life, like bikes has got too complicated and expensive. RE showing how simple gives all you need with much less stress. Good one. Happy travels 👍
Couldn’t agree more! And a very good point you make- for the extra £100, you get taller suspension, bigger wheels, crash bars, wind shield, pannier rails… A HUGE amount extra on the Himalayan
I made a trip all around Asturias Spain two weeks ago on a Royald Enfield Himalayan, it had 53000 km and I rode 1300 km, I spended 45 € for the gas I can tell this is a very handly motorbike to ride it on broken roads, derty and dificult places knowing that litle villages on the muntain. Despite its negative things like the lak of power climbing hill with two passengers and its short final speed on hiway, I can tell that in general is a very good motorbike Sorry for my English, I'm Spaniard

I think the covers on the sides of the tank are just there because beneath them, you have the crash bar connection points of the Himalayan frame. So out of necessity, they added these styling elements. Whether you like them or not - up to everyone's personal judgment.

I always like your reviews Freddie (and Monica ). I have a Meteor 350 bought last December and am very pleased with it. Even now l look at it and am amazed at the value for money. I enjoyed your visit to Triumph recently, we only live a few miles away and go there at least once a week for coffee. My wife is 71 and myself 73 and she has a vespa and its a nice ride for us both through the back lanes,takes about twenty minutes. Keep up the good work,best wishes.

Great video, I had a go on the Scram 411 at ABR Festival last month. It was great fun, and handled the trail with ease. It was awesome being able to go full throttle and not be completely terrified 😁. For me, at 6'2" and a bit heavier than I should be, it felt a little small. That being said, if you're not planning to take it on the motorway, then it's amazing. My wife is considering getting one once she has passed her test. For her, at 5'2" and half my weight, it's verging on a BIG bike 😁.
At 5'6" the Himalayan got me back on a motorcycle after 30 years. I thought it looked huge at first, but it really is easy to handle at low speed, especially with the mellow power delivery and straight back ergonomics. I know some shorter riders do just fine with it. I planted on the balls of my feet and felt fine if not awesome. Other than not being able to flat foot, it's a very friendly, easy to handle bike despite how it appears.
@@garyives1218 can the issue of not being able to ‘flat foot’ it be sorted by getting a lower seat? Sorry for the noob style question but I’m not a biker yet (soon to be biker here) and ideally I want a bike I can place both feet flat on the ground with.
Loved this review. I can add my experience since I own a 2021 Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen. I had a 2017 Suzuki Van Van 200 and it was great off road but too slow. So I sold it and after watching tons of reviews I bought a 2021 Svartpilen 401 for $6000 cad or 3844 Pound with 283 kms on it . It has 44 hp and I can do 160kms plus for top speed. It has 6 gears and various ride modes, and the tires are awesome for on or off road. The tank looks small , but I can get around 240kms plus . It’s seat is very comfy. I’ve put almost 3000kms on it since I bought it. I calculated the gas mileage at 82 miles per gallon as my best. The only thing is I swapped the terrible mirrors for bar end mirrors and I added a small Fly screen for cool looks . I can do gravel , but when I stand up on the footpegs , the bars are too low. They need risers to be more comfortable . The Suzuki Van Van was awesome for standing up, great position . The build quality is decent on the Husky/ KTM Svartpilen. A bit better then Royal Enfield in my opinion. Hope you get to ride one for comparison. Love your bike reviews . They are real peoples rider reviews. ✊🏻👍
Another great and honest review. Thank you 🙂 I however, would always recommend the Himalayan over the Scram. For £100 extra you get the front 'tank' protection crash bars, which also has light luggage available specifically designed for them, as well as being able to accept additional fuel cans. You also get a centre bike stand. The instrument binnacle is also far more comprehensive with the Himalayan, containing an additional separate analogue fuel gauge and rev counter, along with a compass too. A good sized fly screen also comes as standard. There's also an attractive high level mounted front mudguard 'beak'. A plethora of diverse rear side frame and tail luggage also exists for the Himalayan as of now. I don't think there is any yet for the Scram, although I'm sure this will change. For me, there is only one choice here but that's just my opinion 😀
@Crap Game yep, just done my first 500km. I'm really, really pleased I went with the Himmy because it loves going off road! The bigger front wheel makes such a difference. But it still drives nice around town!
It is a beautiful bike. I hope to see it get the newer 452 liquid cooled engine for an update someday. Styling is one of the best bikes in the industry, RE always hits that out of the park. However, I live in the US and hit the interstate (basically a “motorway”) often to get where I gotta go, and the interstate here is well into 70-80 mph. (112-128 kph) If you can’t go that consistently and safely you put yourself in danger.

52 yo short ass from Oz. This will be my next motorcycle. Bike number 10. Can't wait to pick it up and head for some backroads. Specs mean nothing. Hp means nothing. It's the ride and the experience. I dont know how much the speedo reflects reality, but mine has no issues getting to an indicated 70mph. I dont particularly enjoy it at that speed (probably because im a rank newb) but the bike will do it. Backroading at 55 or less and its a great time. Cheap too. I bought mine new for quite a bit less than msrp out the door. Perfect first bike i think.

Great honest review Freddie , no other review has been honest enough to say the engine and general feel is more agricultural than other bikes , including other RE's . Its clear other reviewers are compromised by their relationships with manufacturers and the fear of loosing the ability to get machines for review . Keep it up 👍
I love how you always speak about pillion comfort and truly riding with a pillion on the bikes as you have a lot of real experience with that and it’s very important and always overlooked by other reviewers. I’d even put more of an emphasis on that. Always amazing videos man, thank you!!
I'm here because I'm torn between Himmy and Scram and was hoping for a definitive answer. Great review Freddy, but you ended up exactly where I started haha. Reading the comments has been very helpful. It's horses for courses and I guess it means having the Himmy as a second bike for some proper off-road malarkey and keeping my Bonney, which would have been too heartbreaking to part with anyway.
Thanks for the thorough review. I got a lot out of it. If I didn’t already have three great on-road off-road bikes, I’d buy one of these for sure. My Honda CRF300 Rally, Kawasaki KLR650, and Triumph Scrambler 1200XE cover a lot of range. I’m mainly interested in this bike for a friend who’s budget is less than mine, and who would fit this bike perfectly. With my three great on-road, off-road bikes I’m really about getting my biker friends together for group rides. What a joy, ‘eh?
i got a himalayan 4 month ago out of the showroom, the gear box wasnt smooth, but after the first service at 500km it completely changed and now after 2000km+ it feels really smooth, no clunkyness or false neutrals at all
Finally test rode this and yes these impressions are spot on. IMHO being honest about a bike’s shortcomings makes its positive qualities shine through more. In a country like where I’m from (the Philippines), people take on bad roads and trails all the time on road-focused bikes, especially underbones and scooters. The Scram in the hands of many riders here would go nearly anywhere the Hima would go I bet, while being way more fun in the twisties. Power is lacking, no doubt. But a great bike to make your bones on where most roads aren’t smooth or fast.
I've heard from people that purchased the bike that the first week the brakes felt spongey, but after that break-in period they were delighted to announce that they felt much more solid and tuned in...so I guess that means it just needs a proper break-in. :) Addendum: Did you ever get a chance to ride two up? What was that experience like?
I see your question is 5 months old, but my wife and I just rode two up on a regular Himalayan 1400 miles in India and it was fine. Mostly pavement, some dirt and gravel.
I would take a Scram 411 in a heartbeat, it's a sensible sized scrambler. I also like the Caballero 500s, Benelli Leoncino Trail 500, and I am curious about the forthcoming Honda CL500. You are correct about the Svartpilen 401 being too short, I'm 6'3". Btw, my dream scrambler is the RE Bullet 500 Trials Replica. 😍 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Well, that's just great, I thought I have already made my mind up on what to go for when I get my full license, I was 100% convinced that the Royal Enfield Hunter was the one, now I am also considering the scrambler
A positive but realistic take on everything is refreshing in these times. Enjoying your posts immensely, after a hard day at work and the usual depressing news, we all need posts like yours. As a post note I have found my Meteor to improve after around 1500 miles, ie brakes and engine smoothness and power. So if you have read reviews on brand new zero milage demo's don't be put off.
I think it's horses for couses here Freddie - the Himalayan for the rougher stuff and the Scram for genler road surfaces/coffee runs (would have liked Monika's input on the coffee aspect!). There's a very slight difference in price but both are cheaper than their non-Chinese rivals.
With Royal Enfield now in the business of making bikes with no RE lineage I’d like to see their take on a large softail cruiser. I suspect they could do a bang-up job for half the price of a Harley or Indian.

Why do t you lose some weight. The 411 has a very under stressed engine and will hold 75mph all day long with harm to the engine. There is a reason why professional racers are built like horse jockeys. Stop being so critical of the bike and take a long hard honest critical look at yourself
I love the look of the 411 scram, but I'm hoping for a 650 interceptor version made into a factory scrambler, maybe with a couple extra inches on the rear swing arm.
I think that you found the best dirt roads for that bike. That was the best review that I have yet seen on the Scram 411 Freddie. I think that as a city bike, I would choose the 350 Classic instead.

You're right, it does look a lot nicer in person. I own a Meteor and love the RE brand but the Scram 411 doesn't appeal to me. However I was surprised when I saw one at my local dealer that they look much more appealing in the flesh, in a rugged way, than I was expecting. Mind you, I wasn't keen on the Meteor at first and ended up buying one! So maybe the Scram will grow on me. 😊

I've never been much into off roading, except for one short trip on a GT250 2 stroke and that ended up in a short flying lesson, or should I say gravity lesson. I would far rather take the 350 classic, it just looks so good and your review definitely turned my head.. Now if I can just scare up the cash ;)

lol.........test rode a Continental GT and an INT650 at two different locations for the same dealer. Both times one of the gaiters was unseated. Total dealer RED FLAG!!!! Uuuuugh, but what can ya do :(
It looks simple and hardy enough to go without crash bars. Nice! Ducati Scramblers almost never hit the dirt and this probably won't either, and those Ducatis are selling very well.
As the owner of a Himalayan I just prefer the looks of it's Big Brother. The high mud guard and engine guards make it look cooler. 21 inch front wheel, center stand and pannier racks seal the deal. The Scram is still cool though. Great review 👍
As an owner of a himilayan as well as a classic 350 I have to agree with you the 350 engine is superior overall. Really nice midrange, smoother, better gearbox.
I've been obsessed with getting a small adventure bike to keep my RE 650 Interceptor company in my townhome's small garage. I was all set on the Himalayan until RE released their Scram (which I know is just a Himalayan Lite). As an analyst I've spent far too many hours mulling over my decision-matrix spreadsheet regarding which one to get and determined "Just pick one already!" to be the best decision. I've talked to owners of both. I've watched endless vids and read countless blogs. If one were to ask me right now, "Which way are you leaning?", it would depend on the microsecond as to which way I answer. That said, it looks like the Scram can scram. I was a bit surprised you didn't show any standing-riding, especially coming down some of the muddier trails. I'm curious how your standing comfort would be. At 5'11", I'm not your 6'1", so perhaps I'd have a comfier standing. Still, the fact that you were able to remain seated on some of those slippery bits, and not topple over (at least in the final edit) speaks well for the bike. For a guy like me who will make his off-tarmac riding mostly a dirt-road experience, versus mountain-path experience, it's a contender as a weekend adventure bike. Its 19" front wheel handles the asphalt more precisely than its older siblings 21" tire, yet it appears it maintains its off-road handling more or less the same. The Himalayan just has more fun stuff out of the box, and I'm not gonna lie; I love center stands. Fun vid, Freddie. You've given me a lot to think about.

A couple of months ago I spent three days hopping from the Himalayan to the Scram and back again. And after that, for me the choice would be the Himalayan. It has proper luggage capacity, it has that screen and the crash bars over the tank are useful for fuel canisters or soft bags, I prefer the dashboard. And above all I prefer that 21-inch front wheel; it gives the light front end just that bit more "gravitas" in the twisties, which is something I prefer over the 19" wheel of the Scram, which I find makes the bike just a bit too skittish. And of course, for riding on the loose stuff the 21" is much better. The slightly higher 'bars on the Himalayan make it a much more pleasant bike to ride when standing on the pegs, too. I'd definitely not hesitate to take it from my home near Barcelona to the Balkans - or even further afield - and back. Plain, simple, ruggedly handsome (a bit like me, then), cheap to buy, run and maintain, looks good when it's dirty and a bit scuffed, and easy to spanner on oneself. As for the engine/gearbox, you have to give it a couple of thousand kilometres or so to mellow out. On a well run-in Himalayan I was able to cruise along at an indicated 110-115 kph in top gear (around 5,500 rpm or so) without a problem and with just a little bit of top end left in hand if necessary.
I think if the Himi 650 out next year would be in my top 3. I cant wait to test ride the Enfields. As a first bike the ability to do some touring is what am after and some off roading. I do love the classics though. Que vols fem?

I actually think the market was missing the niche of lower capacity scramblers. Sure you can get something like a CB500X or 390 Adventure but having a totally stripped down bike with a little bit of ruggedness is perfect for roaming around the country lanes at moderate speed and getting you to work. The Scram 411 just feels spot on in terms of ergonomics and build quality!
That is a great everyday bike especially at the price. A few cheap upgrades would make it better too. In UK the availability of off-road trails is very limited so I’d say it is a street scrambler that will be great for bumbling along and on coffee runs. I really want one!, but I also want one of every bike you reviewed recently Freddie 😉😉😉

@@dontbeazombie4772 we are densely populated by very intolerant people that will complain about any motorcycle on or off road. I know many GS owners that virtually never use their bike off road, same with all adventure bikes over here unfortunately.
@@dontbeazombie4772 The big GS is a bike mostly used for touring really. It's comfortable, has plenty of power, great lights and doesn't care what surface you're touring on.

I made a trip all around Asturias Spain two weeks ago on a Royald Enfield Himalayan, it had 53000 km and I rode 1300 km, I spended 45 € for the gas I can tell this is a very handly motorbike to ride it on broken roads, derty and dificult places knowing that litle villages on the muntain. Despite its negative things like the lak of power climbing hill with two passengers and its short final speed on hiway, I can tell that in general is a very good motorbike

I think the covers on the sides of the tank are just there because beneath them, you have the crash bar connection points of the Himalayan frame. So out of necessity, they added these styling elements. Whether you like them or not - up to everyone's personal judgment.
The possibilities are endless (missile launchers)........lol
I've dropped my scram off road 5 times in a year. They're actually perfectly positioned crash bungs as well.

I always like your reviews Freddie (and Monica ). I have a Meteor 350 bought last December and am very pleased with it. Even now l look at it and am amazed at the value for money. I enjoyed your visit to Triumph recently, we only live a few miles away and go there at least once a week for coffee. My wife is 71 and myself 73 and she has a vespa and its a nice ride for us both through the back lanes,takes about twenty minutes. Keep up the good work,best wishes.

Great video, I had a go on the Scram 411 at ABR Festival last month.
It was great fun, and handled the trail with ease. It was awesome being able to go full throttle and not be completely terrified 😁.
For me, at 6'2" and a bit heavier than I should be, it felt a little small. That being said, if you're not planning to take it on the motorway, then it's amazing.
My wife is considering getting one once she has passed her test.
For her, at 5'2" and half my weight, it's verging on a BIG bike 😁.

At 5'6" the Himalayan got me back on a motorcycle after 30 years. I thought it looked huge at first, but it really is easy to handle at low speed, especially with the mellow power delivery and straight back ergonomics. I know some shorter riders do just fine with it. I planted on the balls of my feet and felt fine if not awesome. Other than not being able to flat foot, it's a very friendly, easy to handle bike despite how it appears.
@@garyives1218 can the issue of not being able to ‘flat foot’ it be sorted by getting a lower seat? Sorry for the noob style question but I’m not a biker yet (soon to be biker here) and ideally I want a bike I can place both feet flat on the ground with.
Loved this review. I can add my experience since I own a 2021 Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen. I had a 2017 Suzuki Van Van 200 and it was great off road but too slow. So I sold it and after watching tons of reviews I bought a 2021 Svartpilen 401 for $6000 cad or 3844 Pound with 283 kms on it .
It has 44 hp and I can do 160kms plus for top speed. It has 6 gears and various ride modes, and the tires are awesome for on or off road. The tank looks small , but I can get around 240kms plus . It’s seat is very comfy. I’ve put almost 3000kms on it since I bought it. I calculated the gas mileage at 82 miles per gallon as my best. The only thing is I swapped the terrible mirrors for bar end mirrors and I added a small Fly screen for cool looks . I can do gravel , but when I stand up on the footpegs , the bars are too low. They need risers to be more comfortable . The Suzuki Van Van was awesome for standing up, great position . The build quality is decent on the Husky/ KTM Svartpilen. A bit better then Royal Enfield in my opinion. Hope you get to ride one for comparison.

From my 5'6" perspective, they and KTMs are perhaps too tall (seat height).
Another great and honest review. Thank you 🙂 I however, would always recommend the Himalayan over the Scram. For £100 extra you get the front 'tank' protection crash bars, which also has light luggage available specifically designed for them, as well as being able to accept additional fuel cans. You also get a centre bike stand. The instrument binnacle is also far more comprehensive with the Himalayan, containing an additional separate analogue fuel gauge and rev counter, along with a compass too. A good sized fly screen also comes as standard. There's also an attractive high level mounted front mudguard 'beak'. A plethora of diverse rear side frame and tail luggage also exists for the Himalayan as of now. I don't think there is any yet for the Scram, although I'm sure this will change. For me, there is only one choice here but that's just my opinion 😀

@Crap Game yep, just done my first 500km. I'm really, really pleased I went with the Himmy because it loves going off road! The bigger front wheel makes such a difference. But it still drives nice around town!
It is a beautiful bike. I hope to see it get the newer 452 liquid cooled engine for an update someday. Styling is one of the best bikes in the industry, RE always hits that out of the park. However, I live in the US and hit the interstate (basically a “motorway”) often to get where I gotta go, and the interstate here is well into 70-80 mph. (112-128 kph) If you can’t go that consistently and safely you put yourself in danger.

I dont know how much the speedo reflects reality, but mine has no issues getting to an indicated 70mph. I dont particularly enjoy it at that speed (probably because im a rank newb) but the bike will do it. Backroading at 55 or less and its a great time. Cheap too. I bought mine new for quite a bit less than msrp out the door. Perfect first bike i think.

I bought a 350 Meteor earlier this year and love it. What RE need with that bike is a cammo colour scheme.
I'm here because I'm torn between Himmy and Scram and was hoping for a definitive answer. Great review Freddy, but you ended up exactly where I started haha. Reading the comments has been very helpful. It's horses for courses and I guess it means having the Himmy as a second bike for some proper off-road malarkey and keeping my Bonney, which would have been too heartbreaking to part with anyway.

i got a himalayan 4 month ago out of the showroom, the gear box wasnt smooth, but after the first service at 500km it completely changed and now after 2000km+ it feels really smooth, no clunkyness or false neutrals at all

Finally test rode this and yes these impressions are spot on. IMHO being honest about a bike’s shortcomings makes its positive qualities shine through more.
In a country like where I’m from (the Philippines), people take on bad roads and trails all the time on road-focused bikes, especially underbones and scooters. The Scram in the hands of many riders here would go nearly anywhere the Hima would go I bet, while being way more fun in the twisties. Power is lacking, no doubt. But a great bike to make your bones on where most roads aren’t smooth or fast.

I've heard from people that purchased the bike that the first week the brakes felt spongey, but after that break-in period they were delighted to announce that they felt much more solid and tuned in...so I guess that means it just needs a proper break-in. :) Addendum: Did you ever get a chance to ride two up? What was that experience like?
I see your question is 5 months old, but my wife and I just rode two up on a regular Himalayan 1400 miles in India and it was fine. Mostly pavement, some dirt and gravel.
I would take a Scram 411 in a heartbeat, it's a sensible sized scrambler. I also like the Caballero 500s, Benelli Leoncino Trail 500, and I am curious about the forthcoming Honda CL500. You are correct about the Svartpilen 401 being too short, I'm 6'3". Btw, my dream scrambler is the RE Bullet 500 Trials Replica. 😍

A positive but realistic take on everything is refreshing in these times. Enjoying your posts immensely, after a hard day at work and the usual depressing news, we all need posts like yours. As a post note I have found my Meteor to improve after around 1500 miles, ie brakes and engine smoothness and power. So if you have read reviews on brand new zero milage demo's don't be put off.

Why do t you lose some weight. The 411 has a very under stressed engine and will hold 75mph all day long with harm to the engine. There is a reason why professional racers are built like horse jockeys. Stop being so critical of the bike and take a long hard honest critical look at yourself
I love the look of the 411 scram, but I'm hoping for a 650 interceptor version made into a factory scrambler, maybe with a couple extra inches on the rear swing arm.

You're right, it does look a lot nicer in person. I own a Meteor and love the RE brand but the Scram 411 doesn't appeal to me. However I was surprised when I saw one at my local dealer that they look much more appealing in the flesh, in a rugged way, than I was expecting. Mind you, I wasn't keen on the Meteor at first and ended up buying one! So maybe the Scram will grow on me. 😊

I've never been much into off roading, except for one short trip on a GT250 2 stroke and that ended up in a short flying lesson, or should I say gravity lesson. I would far rather take the 350 classic, it just looks so good and your review definitely turned my head.. Now if I can just scare up the cash ;)
Royal Enfield 350 classic is really good. My brother bought hunter 350 which is also amazing but he did test drive classic 350 and was impressed by it

I definitely prefer the looks of the Scram over the Himalayan. I saw one in the flesh a few weeks ago and was really impressed with it's road presence too. An excellent first big bike for someone who's just passed their test and fancies something with an off-road look and also a great bike for someone who's downsizing - or adding a fun little bike to their garage
lol.........test rode a Continental GT and an INT650 at two different locations for the same dealer. Both times one of the gaiters was unseated. Total dealer RED FLAG!!!! Uuuuugh, but what can ya do :(

It looks simple and hardy enough to go without crash bars. Nice! Ducati Scramblers almost never hit the dirt and this probably won't either, and those Ducatis are selling very well.

As the owner of a Himalayan I just prefer the looks of it's Big Brother. The high mud guard and engine guards make it look cooler. 21 inch front wheel, center stand and pannier racks seal the deal. The Scram is still cool though. Great review 👍
As an owner of a himilayan as well as a classic 350 I have to agree with you the 350 engine is superior overall. Really nice midrange, smoother, better gearbox.
I much prefer the Fantic Caballero. But I'll stick with my 390 Duke.

I've been obsessed with getting a small adventure bike to keep my RE 650 Interceptor company in my townhome's small garage. I was all set on the Himalayan until RE released their Scram (which I know is just a Himalayan Lite). As an analyst I've spent far too many hours mulling over my decision-matrix spreadsheet regarding which one to get and determined "Just pick one already!" to be the best decision. I've talked to owners of both. I've watched endless vids and read countless blogs. If one were to ask me right now, "Which way are you leaning?", it would depend on the microsecond as to which way I answer.
That said, it looks like the Scram can scram. I was a bit surprised you didn't show any standing-riding, especially coming down some of the muddier trails. I'm curious how your standing comfort would be. At 5'11", I'm not your 6'1", so perhaps I'd have a comfier standing. Still, the fact that you were able to remain seated on some of those slippery bits, and not topple over (at least in the final edit) speaks well for the bike.
For a guy like me who will make his off-tarmac riding mostly a dirt-road experience, versus mountain-path experience, it's a contender as a weekend adventure bike. Its 19" front wheel handles the asphalt more precisely than its older siblings 21" tire, yet it appears it maintains its off-road handling more or less the same.
The Himalayan just has more fun stuff out of the box, and I'm not gonna lie; I love center stands.

A couple of months ago I spent three days hopping from the Himalayan to the Scram and back again. And after that, for me the choice would be the Himalayan. It has proper luggage capacity, it has that screen and the crash bars over the tank are useful for fuel canisters or soft bags, I prefer the dashboard. And above all I prefer that 21-inch front wheel; it gives the light front end just that bit more "gravitas" in the twisties, which is something I prefer over the 19" wheel of the Scram, which I find makes the bike just a bit too skittish. And of course, for riding on the loose stuff the 21" is much better. The slightly higher 'bars on the Himalayan make it a much more pleasant bike to ride when standing on the pegs, too. I'd definitely not hesitate to take it from my home near Barcelona to the Balkans - or even further afield - and back. Plain, simple, ruggedly handsome (a bit like me, then), cheap to buy, run and maintain, looks good when it's dirty and a bit scuffed, and easy to spanner on oneself.
As for the engine/gearbox, you have to give it a couple of thousand kilometres or so to mellow out. On a well run-in Himalayan I was able to cruise along at an indicated 110-115 kph in top gear (around 5,500 rpm or so) without a problem and with just a little bit of top end left in hand if necessary.
I think if the Himi 650 out next year would be in my top 3. I cant wait to test ride the Enfields. As a first bike the ability to do some touring is what am after and some off roading. I do love the classics though.

In Canada, I have never seen one and dealers are rare as also Italian motorcycles are very rare.
