Finding someone, with a smile every single day, that is ready to explain you all the music production techniques is very rare. I congratulate you man. ✌✌
@ 0:59 - "so they can develop over time". YES! I love it when it's smooth & doesn't really go anywhere. I've never ever liked the big epic breakdowns in traditional trance.
Will you are such an inspiration. I have loved music since birth, and always wanted to learn how to create EDM. Your videos are both educational but most importantly help with mental well being. Keep it up, love the style, enthusiasm and energy. ❤❤❤❤
@@EDMTips I love this building block idea for a specific genre, covering some key skills to use generally. It has a different spin to the "in the style of producer X" vids as it feels like it will be even more useful as more widely applicable. So a whole series like that would be awesome and I think go down a treat with your nearly 100k viewership (congrats imminent). More specifically I would like an equivalent vid in something a little harder like melodic / deep techno.
Phenomenal lesson! This is where I'm trying to take my music to. I appreciate all your hard work on these videos my dude! 🙌 Keep killing it. It helps us all a ton.
i like to add tiny bits of random LFO for certain perimeters on most of my sounds. adding tiny variations to different sounds usually isn't a bad thing, unless it's like the kick drum, which you obviously don't want changing.
@@isaacanthonydj4124 Sub bass is basically below 60Hz with 50Hz generally being the "ideal" place to sit it though there are some mitigating factors such as the tone of the kick etc. If you want to use a mid bass with a separate sub bass then a good trick is to cut the mid bass at around 100Hz (and cut your synths, hats etc at 125-250), so leaving everything below 100 for the Kick and the bass (and maybe dip the kick little at around 110Hz to let the mid bass come through).
@@EDMTips no problem at all. always happy to support my fellow content creators. I am looking forward to improving on my own current video format I have uploaded and, in the future, trying to create content as good as yours in the long term.
thanks very much for this walk through, I feel like this is pretty much where I usually get, have you done another video where you flesh it out into a whole song?
Been binging on your channel all week Will Have never wanted to invest in a high end laptop and Ableton more since seeing your vids. I used to do a lot of bootleg edits on Acid Pro and you're definitely reminding me of how much fun producing is Great work
Fantastic video Will. This is what I was talking about. I started off as beginner in your channel but now I’m have quite some beginner knowledge and looking for the next level which you shows us today with syncopations, motif etc. Congratulations. Some next video ideas for you, how to make different instruments work together, how to write Melodies that doesn’t clash and how to choose correct sounds after initially using piano for sketching.
Will! You are just simply awesome! Your videos are much appreciated. I have a question for you. I cannot fit SERUM on my computer because I ran out of space, so can you please tell me in your professional opinion, which Ableton device you would user for sub bass holds as a melodic bass follower? OPERATOR (or) ANALOG??? Thanks brother and have a BLESSED DAY!
As always, an awesome vid , bro! Q: Now, i dont c u here duplicating the bass track 2 hv a higher frequency of the bassline and checking if the bass is still audible on earbuds & phone speakers. Why not?
Will, I really enjoyed this video and learned some good tips which I plan to use going forward. Loved the one about sidechaining the closed hats and other elements! It really does add more groove. Also liked that you showed us how to make a couple sounds from scratch in Serum. Thank you so much for uploading this!
Only watched around 7 mins and already learned a lot.l! Excellent description of what is going on. Only feedback so far; when you are talking about adjusting the fade in to a drum sample within simpler, it may be worth explaining how you physically do this, so for people new to producing, they can continue to follow how you are creating those revised samples for the track. Hope that makes sense! Also how do you make the auxiliary sound bed for the track?
Hi Will, thanks for posting such great contents. I was wondering if you could do a "how to produce dark synthwave in the style of Perturbator/Carpenter Brut" video. I am quite sure it would make plenty of your viewers happy. :)
cool channel! so you made an aux reverb channel and sent everything on the mix there? I mean drums, synths, effects.. or just the main instruments such as piano, plucks, pads? thnks
`out 939 likes there is zero dislikes..I have never seen that before, so clearly youre doing something right..congrats! quick question: on the compressor threshold, there is 2 color greens (one is a bright neon green the other a darker green), what is the difference between them?
How do you make the SC channel? I tried as a midi channel but it wouldn't let me switch out to send only. Tried to do it as the other type but wouldn't let me write notes in. Im new sorry. Great tutorial!
A decade ago I tried to learn music production, but I simply didn’t have the dedication to work through mediocrity after months of trying to learn. Your videos have been incredibly inspiring and make me believe I can try to create music again thanks to your ability to clearly explain what I’ve been hearing. Thank you. This video is one of your best ever.
Great Will, love it ! ❤ I whould like to ask if you know why the ableton compressor always "clicking" with very low threshold (specially with sidechain kick and bass ) ? It dosn't do this with a 3 rd party comprossor i think. Maybe its a "bug" in the ableton comprosser. What do you think ?
Great soundscape Will and hearing your voice and seeing your face you did all that probably feeling like S*$t - fair play to you and so inspiring. Get well soon :-)
Indeed I did. For the past 5 years I've been focusing on EDM Tips though, teaching others how to achieve their music production goals and I have to say, I totally love it.
Hi Will, great video, I've it saved away to reference in the future too! One question - were you not tempted to make the bass follow the chord progression rather than leaving it on the root note?
I have just watched the video and I was going to post this very question. To my ears it just sounded wrong when the same key was played for the base the whole time. Did it just need more sound design? Would love to hear your thoughts. Great video! I have been watching many of your videos and after watching this I think am I finally ready to jump in and have a go. I really appreciated how you made your own synth patches. They look so intimidating but this was one of the more valuable tips from the video. So grateful 😊
⚡ Which of these techniques are you going to try next? Let me know!
Clip to zero mixing
All of them! Yay!
everyone of them multiple times lol its the only way i retain information lol
That reverb sound bed is a simple concept but a huge one!
Disco, Funk genre? 🙂

where do you distinguish bass from sub base in Hz? approx?
