This was helpful. I’m apparently a highly insensitive person and have never even stopped to wonder why she’s the way she is, I figured it was for her own sick amusement. So yes thanks.
When I first started managing people I was a micromanager. Learned quickly they didn't work. Now I am the polar opposite, as long as the work is getting done and quality, I am happy. I will say to someone periodically "please work on X, Y or Z. Don't put me in a position where I have to micromanage you. "
I like to say that "expectations are just premediated disappointment" It is more about setting daily weekly monthly goals and letting them reach that result. Thanks for sharing.
Great information. I wish I would have known this before I became an entrepreneur but it still helps me to understand how micromanaging the contractors I work with can make them feel. Thank you!!
This is so good! 2yrs later this is so helpful! I definitely am a HSP. I feel like this overcommunication is a lot more work, I don't do well with being micromanaged AT ALL! I hate it, but these tips have helped me learn how to work with my manager.
I would love to learn how to tactfully disagree or bring up problems without getting into an open fire with micromanagers and just toxic management. Often times they don’t even listen and don’t want to solve problems, gaslighting you and leave you pretty much frustrated that you cannot do your job.
This is great, but in education every time you communicate your progress on a project with a principal or administrator always gives you more to do. As a result much of us communicate less. Any suggestions?
well, I feel micromanager is putting a rope on my neck and gives me command and order to move on every single step, feels like I am a stupid person, don't know what to do. The micromanager thinks he is super important person, without his control in place, nobody can make progress, nobody can succeed, but that's not the case. Really need to piss off.
I currently have a micro manager that is beyond ridiculous. He actually walks in every day to give “ reminders “. Don’t forget to take out ALL of your dirty linen before you leave “, don’t forget to plug everything in before you leave , don’t forget to put the table in home position before you leave “, he walks in every day just to watch us and make comments . He never even worked in my department before and makes the most awful decisions. He is a pain in the A$$. He is a newer supervisor. TG I’m a contractor and I’m out inn5 weeks
My boss is a patronising Man splainer so bloody irritating. He told me how to take the wrapper off a wine bottle and how to put a paper in a card machine. I am 48 F.F.S and have been doing my job for 7 years!
What do you do if you are already doing that but the manager acts like you didn't say one word to them about anything and you gotta repeat your self over and over! Smh I send emails and IM messages to keep the supervisor in the loop so I don't have to be questioned , but the supervisor comes back and ask me about the same exact situation I just wrote a full email about. I feel insulted at that point like im a 3rd grader and the person is calling me a liar and asking me again to see if I will change my story. Is there a way we can tell management about it, and let them know they will loose good employees with these horrible power tripping Supervisors, or I just need to start looking for a new job cause it will only get worse! Lol Smh 🤦🏾♀️
Hi there! I would say if you've done everything to communicate (document the communication), I would start looking for another job. Life is too short to keep putting up with people who doesn't support your growth. Goodluck!
I don’t think she necessarily meant to say that everyone micromanaged is highly sensitive. I understood it is highly sensitive people have a greater sensitivity to micromanagers.
Isn't it possible that the manager doesn't have a sense of a person's capabilities until they have proven themselves to be reliable, meeting deadlines, and providing high quality work? Once the manager has seen that the employee is capable then they will ease off in many cases. In my opinion when you start a new job and your boss is the one who will be held accountable for your work by their bosses higher up, it makes sense to me that they need to get to know you over a period of time so they can relax and be confident in your abilities. I would advise that new hires not take it personally and I agree with you that keeping the boss informed regularly of your progress when you first begin a job shows that you are going to be a diligent, productive, and reliable support for them. They will value and trust you more if they know you are helping them to make them look good to their bosses!

So yes thanks.
+theSimoneChérie you’re welcome!
What productive emotions? Being micromanaged removes every ounce of motivation.
Great info. Not knowing how to handle this person can make you want to quit.
Exactly!
Identifying micromanaging style can save you so much time!! Great content! Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!

i feel that one would be giving in instead of making the manager aware of their behavior
Love the idea of an expectation meeting! And that also keeps them up to date with where you’re at. Thanks for sharing!!
You are so welcome!

Micromanagers don't work with people doing strategic sales!

My micro manager wants daily meetings and I tried to compromise with less then that but she refused ugh
The only option that she gives me in the email is “Good Day” or “Good Morning” the rest have to be her style
Such great info! Thanks!

I also micromanaged at first. Sorry to my first team members!
yup.. sorry team :) we all do it at first I guess.
2 or 3 types?
micromanagement should be illegal and be classed as a form of bullying because thats what it really is
This is so helpful. Thank you! ❤

First of all, why are we highly sensitive if we have problems with a micro manager?
I don’t think she necessarily meant to say that everyone micromanaged is highly sensitive. I understood it is highly sensitive people have a greater sensitivity to micromanagers.

I disagree. My boss is out to get me.
Oh no. I'm sorry :(
