  • Micromanaging is a sign of incompetence; it's deflating and absurd. People don't need babysitting, they need leadership to set clear expectations, give them what they need to be successful, and then stay out of their way. Here's some tips on what to do instead. Also, stick around for some show and tell! Rage Against the Machine on vinyl? Yeah.

    I just started working for 2 woman who micromanage. They also talk down to employees to the point that it is extremely demeaning. I want to quit so bad but the money is good. It definitely brings down work moral. As a 40 year old woman it's hard to be talked to like I am a child. I'm not sure how much I can take.

    I just lost my job. My client terminated me... my boss is a micromanager it just came clear to me now. My work was affected because of her. Everything is urgent for her she says I'm not productive but I am doing 3x more than should be in a day. She is very meticulus but disorganized. I am so demoralized. I've been mentally and emotionally distressed.

    • @GalenEmanueleShiftYes
      @GalenEmanueleShiftYes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that sounds ridiculous. Why would you pay someone a salary to go watch somebody else work to make sure if they’re working? Also exactly what you described of having employees feel like they’re being watched at every moment is a shitty feeling. Acting like someone is untrustworthy before they’ve proven themselves to be untrustworthy is bizarre.

    What happens when you give them the trust and they are underperforming????

    • @GalenEmanueleShiftYes
      @GalenEmanueleShiftYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Then they probably need better communication and coaching, not micromanaging. My honest answer is that it’s also up to leaders to clearly communicate exactly what is expected of their team in terms of performance, behavior, timelines, and caliber of work, and then hold each individual accountable. Give a clear picture of what a 10/10 looks like and when that isn’t met, find out why, how you can support them, and if with all of that done well they are still underperforming then be clear about the consequences of that if their performance doesn’t turn around and exactly what it needs to look like instead. When diving into these situations, it’s often lack of clear communication and effective coaching that is the root of the issue, in my experience. It’s not a leader’s job responsibility to breathe down their team’s necks to make sure they’re working and getting their work done right. If you have to be doing that all the time then you’ve got the wrong people in the wrong roles, or more likely, you’ve got to brush up on your coaching and feedback skills. That’s my take on it:)

    If you are looking up videos on how to deal with a micromanaging boss, it is already too late. You are clearly showing initiative on how to fix a relationship, but this micromanager is likely a narcissist, and narcs have little to no empathy for others. Plan and execute your exit strategy now. You will never be able to make yourself small enough for them, and they will drain you of everything you care about, one piece at a time.
    If you have been critiqued as a micromanager, you will likely never be cut out for leadership, and should resign or ask to be demoted to solitary confinement in a basement closet immediately. The only person you should interact with is a licensed therapist and learn that you are not the center of the universe, and that people are hired to perform certain roles for a company, not to serve YOUR needs. Pull your own weight, instead of forcing good people to lift you up.

    • @GalenEmanueleShiftYes
      @GalenEmanueleShiftYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Who hurt you? Haha. Yes, some (many) people who are bad leaders will never be great leaders because they’re not open to the feedback or receptive to the growth mindset it takes to self reflect and improve. Leaders who aren’t willing to do that aren’t worth a lick of salt in my book, I don’t know about solitary confinement but demotions all around fosho:)

      Why is YOUR team ALWAYS screwing up?

    • @GalenEmanueleShiftYes
      @GalenEmanueleShiftYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If a team (or individual) is always screwing up, and there is a repeated pattern of behavior or performance issues, then what you really have is a problem with the leadership of that team or person. The ability to set and communicate clear expectations, to coach and correct behavior & performance in order to get people back on track and hold them accountable to pulling their weight, the courage and wherewithal to remove them from the team if things aren't changing -- these are all things that fall to leadership and that's what the problem is in that situation. Micromanaging is not the solution, it's a band-aid for poor leadership.
