hi Les thanks once again for a really good video you seem to be in the right place at the right time you have a lot of great film for us to look at it was great to see the 2x 26s working hard and the steamer topped it off shame it broke down but these things happen anyway look forward to your next video look after yourself and stay safe my friend
Really good video! Loved the Colas HST shot. I saw this train at London Euston recently and did a driver interview which was great! Keep up the good work.
Hello Leslie, I love your videos, as I used to live in Cumbria. Your recent trip to Hincaster Junction took me back to my childhood, as it was where we used to watch the mainline trains for hours, with a lot of memories of steam. As you probably know, Hincaster Junction was where a single track line left the main line and go down to the coast at Arnside, thus linking with the west coast line to Barrow. Lots of fond memories. Keep up the good work, and thank you for hours of entertainment! Richard
Great video, Leslie, and some phenomenal shots from "new" angles. The shots of the steamer were QUITE epic from that angle... perfect weather to see the coloring and full scope of the loco and those cars, too. The shot around the 23-24 minute mark was also an even higher standard of shot than your normal perfection. Once again... great work and I appreciate the time and effort to film and edit these for us!
Another top class video there Les some wonderfull shots ,the measurement train looked good shame about the steamer but somw awesome filming well done Les thanks for sharing stay safe a t b Syd😄👍
Dear Leslie, with Carlisle being one of my favourite British railway stations (with Lancaster and Preston) but coming there only once every couple of months due to living in Germany, at least I can draw some comfort from your great videos! Cheers, Joerg
Some good catches as usual Les, 43277 looking stunning in its new livery hope the rest get the same treatment. Shame about guardsman but at least the 47 came in useful.
Are the logs we see being hauled behind the Colas locos destined to be lumber for construction or as pulp wood for the paper manufacturers? Really enjoyed the video Les.
30:16 Okay, I admit I did not understand what the signal was telling me. Red light - straight forward. Feather to left - I assumed the locomotive would go left. Indicators to the right with letters - not a clue. So I was somewhat surprised when the locomotive trundled off to the right. Can anyone put me out of my misery and explain what I was seeing, please?
The two white lights are a shunting signal (think of it a small semaphore arm) in this case into a siding. The SDG means Siding, in this case the High Wapping sidings to the right of the running line where you see the loco move. A feather indicating a junction with line to the left would be much longer and above the main signals.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways Wow, that was fast! The SDG inicator was new to me but I should have realised that the "feather" was not a real feather but a digital shunting signal. Thanks very much for the quick and clear explanation. Everything now makes perfect sense!
A great video again thanks Leslie from an Aussie. I do have a couple of queries.1 what is in the white containers @36:50 minute..plus 2 I notice that the Avanti trains seem to be both diesel or electric and the electric trains only use 1 pantograph for such a long train is that normal.
in the white containers, hoods actually, over nuclear flasks, naughty stuff, Avanti Pendolinos, electric sets, rear panto used for collection, bus bar runs along roof of set to other motor cars, front pan lowered to avoid damage, can be used if rear pan is damaged. Avanti diesel sets are 220 and 221 DMU's often used in pairs when services leave overhead tracks... See les's videos during Carstairs blockade a few weeks back. hope this helps
I read somewhere the reason for using only the rear pantograph was that if a driver spotted anything in the o/head there would be a few extra seconds to drop the panto to avoid damage. If the forward panto was used then it most likely would suffer. If the reasr panto did get damaged then the forward one was available for use. As I said, I read that somewhere so it should be treated as hearsay. It may be true, but …
@@roboftherock interestingly TransPennine and I think LNER use the front one. I think there is a problem of a wave in the overhead wire causing issues on pantographs spread apart.
Thanks for sharing. Love watching the different equipment.
Thanks John
A truly excellent video with enough variety to keep us all happy.
Thank you!

Thanks!

Thanks. Yes Guardsman didnt get far. It took the headboard back to Carnforth - Leander brought it up today
Les, the unidentified Class 325 was unit 006.
Thanks! Hard to spot sometimes

Thanks Art. All for making particle board, fiberboard, laminate flooring etc etc eventually for construction.

hi lesile very good duncan
Thanks!
Nice video. I think the 325 was either 325006 or 325016, and I'm not sure which one it is.
Thanks! Its hard to spot the centre unit number
Will it be coming through dawlish
Cool
Does colas ever clean their locos they always look filthy
As it happens I saw 70811 today and it looked clean - but I suspect it's recently out of maintenance!
That’s sad they have gone
Still the excursions
