  • In this highly requested video, Eli reviews the Mockingbird stroller! Although the mockingbird is direct-to-consumer and not available to purchase through Magic Beans, we (and so many of you!) were curious to see how it stacks up against some comparable strollers that we do carry. Since the Mockingbird is about half the price of an UPPAbaby Vista V2, can be a very alluring option for parents looking for a single-to-double Vista-esque budget stroller. Find out if the cost-conscious option may fulfill your family's needs!

I work in pediatrics and see the Mockingbird stroller A LOT, and for the most part parents are very happy with it so I am now considering it for my 2 grandkids. You don’t need a stroller that’ll last 10 years.

I’d certainly agree with your viewpoint and say the the Vista is in a different league than Mockingbird. But over time, I realized that some families really can’t reach into that Uppa/Nuna/Bugaboo budget range. So for its price point, I think it’s fairer to base it against the Zelia/XPAND/Bravo tier at the $400-$500 range. When comparing to it those, I personally think Mockingbird fares well.

I get what you mean. However what’s not fair, is that this brand made a COPY of a stroller that Uppababy spent all this time, money and energy building and advertising. So obviously it needs to be compared to the REAL stroller. 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t see how this Mocking bird is different from anything counterfeit.

Came to watch this video because I've liked some of your other reviews. I am planning on buying the Mockingbird because it seems to be the best stroller for the price. Not everyone can afford a $1000 stroller. This whole "review" comes across as snobby and talking down to the people who would be in the market for the Mockingbird. I'm sure something like the UPPAbaby Vista is an overall better stroller if money is no object, but consider who the product is designed for before you spend 8 minutes trashing it.

Yea I’m looking into the Mockingbird because I needed a budget friendly stroller that can go from a newborn-toddler to toddler-toddler as I’m expecting my second. This review really was not helpful. It just felt like he was discussing all the reasons we shouldn’t get the “more affordable” stroller. I would of course the $900 Vista to have the more expensive feel, I mean it’s $900. But I need both affordable and practice which feels like the mockingbird. Maybe I’m not his target audience or consumer, but if that’s the case maybe this review wasn’t needed.

Thanks for the review. It’s good to have this outline of the compromises Mockingbird made to get this stroller under $900. Still, for those of us who don’t have $900+ to spend on a stroller, my experience with it has been positive so far. If it turns out to not last 10 years, I’ll happily make use of their lifetime warranty.

I love my Mockingbird! I can’t afford a vista (nor do I want to spend over $1000 on a stroller). It looks great and works well for my family. They have a great 30 day trial and it works for some people and not for others. I’ve never seen another company willing to let you use their stuff for 30 days and return it with no questions asked. That is huge for me! Your review seems so rushed and extremely biased- sorry (not sorry) I can’t drop hundreds to go to boutique stores like yours. I know this stroller can't be compared to the Uppa Baby Vista quality or price tag, but at $450, it's still not a cheap stroller. New mom here (due in April). If I buy this stroller, Nuna cars seat $300 plus adapter and the infant insert ... its still about $1,000. I'm also considering Baby Jogger GT2 or Thule Spring which is the same price as Mockingbird so just wondering Eli is saying this is a "cheap" stroller.

The bias is heavy from your face and body language lol and of course any direct to consumer product isn’t going to be a high recommend from retailers because it takes money from your business BUT my wife and I, as consumers, and having a large 7 month baby boy in the mockingbird through winter and early summer, we absolutely love it! It may not have real leather and the fabric isn’t the same quality as the Vista but for a 600 dollar price difference it feels pretty darn good! It definitely doesn’t feel “rickety”, we use it daily for picnics, groceries, and strolls downtown and it’s massive basket and handle are perfect for me (6’4 guy with long stride). In all honesty it’s a newer company so the longevity will be put to the test but for a family stroller I definitely recommend it. Hoping to purchase the second seat for our next baby. They also have a stroller board in production as well for a third child. Side note: an extendable canopy is now sold on all models, the old canopy (in the video) is shorter and didn’t block the sun well but the new one is long and works well!

    • @RebbekkahMalynn
      @RebbekkahMalynn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Do you know if the extendable canopy will come with the single to double on the Babylist website? I know I won’t be able to return the stroller once I open it BUT I’ll still get the lifetime warranty. So if I happen to get the short one, will mockingbird which me canopy’s for the newer?
We know for sure we’re getting this stroller!

    • @relrel101

That’s tricky because if Babylist has an older stock they may send you an older model but I can’t say for sure. It’s safer to buy from the main website just to be sure. You can also purchase the new canopy from Mockingbird. Or if you try to order from Babylist and it’s the older canopy reach out to customer service at Mockingbird and they should swap them since you purchased it now. Hope that helps!

After two kids, a vista & a bugaboo donkey I’m such a stroller snob and notice every last detail about strollers but it’s so hard to recommend those to friends and family after they look at the price. So this is a great alternative for people who don’t want that chunky chicco&graco look without the expensive price tag. I use my strollers 5x a week on all types of Terrain but I have friends who barely ever pull them out and don’t even notice things like seat fabrics or suspension in the wheels & this would be perfect for them.

A great musician will play every piece of music as if they love it, even if they don’t. I consider your channel to be a great source for baby product reviews. I think this would have been a nicer review if you didn’t immediately start off with this condescending tone and this very apparent distain for the stroller. It’s not always a good thing to include your biases in a review.

    • @Aline-zy6ki
      @Aline-zy6ki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Maybe he’s disappointed to the fact that this stroller is pretty much a counterfeit of the Uppababy? Who spent all the time, money and energy building something and then a cheap copy comes out and advertises as “the same”?

    • @Enjoem
      @Enjoem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Couldn’t agree more. If you don’t like it for the reasons said in the vid cause it comes off as “counterfeit” (mind you there are many other strollers that are high end copies of copies) don’t review it. I would have much preferred if Magic Bean/Eli just didn’t review it.
I loved coming to this channel when I chose my car seat because it gave me many options and tons of info that I was able to use in choosing my Nuna Pipa Rx. When it came to strollers I knew there was no way I could afford a Uppa Baby or any of the other high end strollers that are talked about on this channel, but I also didn’t want to go with a Graco or Chicco. The Mockingbird gave me what I needed/wanted at the price point I could pay. Most of middle America can not afford the upper echelon of strollers especially right now.
All in all I think Eli could have still hit each and every point that he wanted to make, and not come off as if this review was a waste of his time. If felt like he didn’t even hit all the point he does with other strollers that he reviews, and that he didn’t even check some of the facts he did talk about ie the canopy “extension”, if you had just did a little reading you would have known the older model (which he has) doesn’t extend but the updated one does.
I don’t know it just made me sad watching this because I have had such respect for this channel (though I may not be vocal in the comments) and recommend it to my friends and family all the time.

@@Aline-zy6ki Maybe he could have expressed his disappointment in a fairer, more objective review, rather than throwing the company under the bus right from the start. I had a Vista with our first son, and looked really hard at getting another one with our current newborn, but we couldn't do it. I actually went ahead and purchased the Mockingbird, sight unseen. They recently started selling them at Target and my wife and I went to see them and were very impressed by the so called "cheap" quality that Eli speaks of here. Again, there's ways that you can disagree with a product, but you can do it in a more constructive, objective way, not come off as sounding snobby and basically ridiculing yourself.

My wife and I were doing a lot of research and article reading/video watching (and receiving advise from fellow friends who are parents of small children) and the Mockingbird was recommended to us by a few people. But after seeing reviews and seeing the safety issues that have occurred with two children in the seat (my wife and I wanted a stroller that could go from one child to two because we plan on going the “two under two” route), we just could not justify paying the lower price merely for the fact that the price is lower. We splurged on the Uppababy Vista V2 and couldn’t be happier.

After having both a mockingbird for over a year and a bugaboo donkey (I still have both actually) I really love and use both of them. I call my donkey the tank stroller and it’s not the most portable so if I know I’m just going to the mall I keep the mockingbird in our car trunk for that. Also the seat sits higher than a donkey which allows for bulkier items being stored in the basket. Which is great when I go food shopping and have a huge haul. I’d also like to note that every purchase of a mockingbird now comes with extendable canopies so the one you have in your possession is likely a slightly older model. While I agree that it’s not a stroller you’d go for if you want the highest end features, it’s still such a sleek and useful stroller for the price.

I ended up buying the mockingbird single stroller because I honestly don’t have the budget for an uppababy vista. I think what Dad Verb said is true. Ok Eli, yes, there was a bit of a bias lol, and I love that you acknowledged it, however, I agree with you. I didn’t see the Mockingbird in major stores so I was curious since I will likely get the Cruz (I’m 35, so this will likely be my last so I don’t need the Vista). The single seat Mockingbird is only $350 which is amazing, but honestly I can even see in the video that the chassis and fabrics are subpar, and the suspension is lacking. I pushed the Cruz and that baby was smooth. I think the Cruz is still a winner for me (and MAYBE the Nuna Mixx if I can convince hubby to switch strollers for the toddler stages because I don’t like that one for toddlers due to the lacking leg support- and my children are tall so I expect any new baby to be tall as well).

Hi Eli - Thanks for this video and all the resources you provide through your TH-cam channel. I understand the Mockingbird looks like the Vista and the manufacturer markets itself as a competitor to Uppababy. HOWEVER, for me, the question is not so much whether the Mockingbird is comparable to the Vista, it's whether it's comparable to other strollers in the $350ish price range. There are people for which a $900 stroller is completely inaccessible, and I wonder how the Mockingbird measures up against strollers in its price range, and whether it's a good (and more stylish) option for those who need to spend under $500. I agree there is really no comparison between Mockingbird and Uppababy in terms of quality. I'll be going with the Uppababy because I'm fortunate enough to be able to easily afford it, but I know not everyone is so lucky.

I watched I think close to 100 videos and read 50 different reviews and went to see them in person. The Vista is obviously one of the best in term of quality and sturdiness. So I'm not surprised the mockingbird can't match it in that category but not many do even in the same price range of 800 to 1000 bucks. Let's even talk about the Nuna. We were almost set to get the Nuna mixx next or Triv. But many failed to mention how unstable they are and they are not really built to last either. The suspension is really thin on the Nuna, maybe even thinner than the mockingbird.
I can also say, that you're not gonna get anything close to what the mockingbird gives you at $400. I get that they visibly copied the Vista and Vista is gonna stay in its own category. Mockingbird would probably be more on the best for budget friendly stroller. I'm actually leaning towards the Cruz because I can afford it but I totally understand the mockingbird can be great for many other people out there. And also let's not forget to mention the lifetime warranty on the Mockingbird. But of course Vista is gonna better, it's twice the price!

Overall I can do shopping, outdoor activities without wearing my huge diaper bag and still have space, looks & feels great & has good options with the head & to foot sun shade and the full recline for naps…hits the must haves and is more cute than the other $300 somethings
Overall my only complaint is the steering can be a little off, not a bumpy gravel stroller and it can get heavy. The material isn’t the best but it kinda gives me relief when we do all the activities…rather invest in a nuna car seat with this stroller

I agree with you Elli. I've watched a review of baby baby compare it to the cruise and he said the same thing. Also I watched the stroller gallery and while they didn't have access to it they assessed it on the website and also said the same thing. I used to think the mockingbird was just as good as the cruise but now I realize you really do get what you pay for. I will be getting a Vista. Also I recommend to anyone who's looking for strollers to watch the stroller gallery they do a lot of impartial reviews and tell you what high-end strollers are really good.

I think maybe you should have just compared it to the vista instead of reviewing it. I personally think when directly compared, you can really tell the difference in quality and features. even looking at them side by side, you can see the metal frame of the vista far outweighs the mockingbird, and the wheels on the vista are much bigger and look to be better all terrain. We've ultimately decided to go with the vista because of the bassinet. first off, the vista comes with the bassinet and a foot cover for it, where as the mocking bird does not, but also, the vistas bassinet is approved for safe overnight sleep, where the mockingbirds is not. I've been back and forth on which stroller to get and ultimately keep coming back to the vista because of that bassinet.

You can really tell you aren’t a fan of this stroller but your dislikes are definitely ones I’ve seen in other reviews of this stroller. We already decided to go a different direction just because of the handle alone. It’s not great to basically only have 2 options especially when the taller option doesn’t also allow more room for walking between you and the stroller. The price does make it tempting but not with that handle. We know with our dogs it’s something we will be using daily so we both need to be comfortable pushing it around. All in all I couldn’t agree more!!

While this review did come across as pretentious, it isn't necessarily the price of UppaBaby or Bugaboo strollers that are driving my decision making. I'm probably going to go with the Mockingbird because I really like the riding board setup. It's not right underfoot and awkward like almost every other stroller on the market. I considered something like the Joovy Caboose, but felt the stroller was just too big and cumbersome. The Mockingbird riding board just seems like a more well thought out solution for a rider. They can see where they are going, and I won't have to change my stride or hunch over them to push them along. If the higher end strollers had a better ride along option, I'd probably go with them, but for now, I'm going to give the Mockingbird a try.

I'm looking for a stroller, not a used car. I can't even begin to justify the cost of the pricier stroller. I'm too practical. If I planned on essentially having my child living in a stroller, using it day in and day out for hours 7 days a week, then maybe. But for the occasional walk and leisurely stroll around a paved walkway or indoor area with an occasional off road experience, I'll gladly go with the less pricey of the two. Where and how do people use their strollers is what I'm wondering? I can't even imagine using a stroller so much that it justifies an over $1000 price tag, but that's just my opinion.

It worked ok with my first born but we bought the second seat kit for my second and it it so hard to push and it can’t go over small sidewalk bumps in chicago. I ordered my second kit when i was 5 months pregnant and I can’t return it because it was delivered more than 30 days ago. I guess I should have waited to order it until 30 days before my due date but I wanted to get it checked off my list. I honestly am so irritated with what a waste it is. If you are considering a Mockingbird stroller this isn’t a review I’d take to heart. The reviewer focuses on things he doesn’t like vs one of the most expensive strollers on the market and barely reviews the actual stroller and only talks about a few parts about it in a rush. Repeatedly throughout the video he cries about not looking forward to the negative comments… which is just annoying. I clicked on this to see a review, not to watch him talk about comments. From a business perspective, the guy reviewing it can’t sell it in his store, so why would he want you to buy it? He grIpes about the handlebars - a LOT of strollers don’t have adjustable handlebars at all. He also doesn’t touch upon the fact that the leather is made from vegan leather, which is important to some people vs real leather on some strollers and instead just complains about it. Really, a poor review that does not go into detail and instead just tries to talk people out of buying the stroller at all.

We upgraded from the single mockingbird to a uppababy vista.

The mockingbird was more than acceptable, ( except the canopy ) the main reason we switched was because we had another baby. Mockingbird was going to release the double the same month we were due ,but we were required to upgrade their single we already owned so we decided to sell and buy the vista during a great sale Bloomingdales had ( 25 for every 100 spent )

I actually found this review helpful. I can tell the mockingbird is quite flimsy. If it’s in your price range, as the video suggests, you get what you pay for. I think this is a good video because I keep seeing people say the mockingbird is a vista dupe, but just because it looks like a vista, doesn’t mean it works like a vista. Let’s not pretend the direct to consumer pricing is there to help the customer save money. They are clearing cutting a lot of corners here (canopy, no telescopic handle, tires don’t look like they’re all terrain, suspension, plastic parts in the joints, the list goes on).

I purchased a Mockingbird, wanting to save $$ on an inevitable double stroller purchase. However at 18mo, my tiny preemie was grazing the canopy of the Mockingbird. I called the company, sent them their requested photos and measurements. They thought I got a bad model and then finally concluded no, it’s just THAT short. Then they told me an unrelated part was bad and they’d have to send a replacement. I’m still not sure how they could have adequately trialed this thing. Not only because it was flimsy and needed a replacement right out the gate, but the height size issue. My baby was, at the time, definitely under the 50th percentile. I ultimately sent it back. Never again. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Totally disagree! I discovered Mockingbird after Uppababy customer service confirmed to me that they do not have non-leather Vista options (since I actually do not want leather!), which sadly disenfranchises a large amount of people with religious, environmental, and moral reasons to not want leather.
Now, after 10 months of 1-2hrs/day on Boston cobblestones, my Mockingbird is still as good as new. That is good engineering and materials! I find it very comfortable, very smooth, very light. It’s also really good looking (I’ve been stopped by strangers on Newberry asking me about this stroller).
And it does have an extendable canopy since an update about 6 months ago - it goes super far down. So maybe this review used an older model?
Also their customer service is AMAZING! I didn’t know how to break down my bassinet and they were amazing responding right away, reviewing my images and responding with images/videos pointing to what I needed to do (ends up, I had pregnancy brain and it was fine).
Long way of saying, I would HIGHLY recommend this stroller. I didn’t buy this for budget savings but because I did a thoughtful review of my options and found this to objectively be the best stroller for my family. We LOVE it!

I LOVE their customer service, I reached out twice and both times they spoke to me like an actual person and actually made a few jokes while helping me with what I needed (which were inquiring about the canopy and switching my car seat adapter). It’s hard to argue with a lifetime warranty and a 30 day trial. I saw they will be sold in Target starting this month as well. Hopefully this helps families (who don’t want to do the 30 day free trial) see it in person and love it like so many other families!

Also keep in mind mechanically they basically changed nothing about the single vs the double, so kind of hard to trust it supporting the extra weight when they didn’t do anything to change the structure besides lengthen the frame. • @relrel101

That’s not all they did. The Front wheel base is noticeably wider than the single model and the front stabilizing bar was moved closer to the second seat to accommodate more weight. Also the frame itself is about an inch or so wider. So I think those are big changes to the frame. Many people believe all they did was lengthen the frame, so your not alone :)

I am extremely disappointed with this video and "review". I have watched a lot of your videos and found them to be very helpful. This video is nowhere near what I have come to expect from you.
After five minutes basically bashing the Mockingbird you say "here comes the actual review", and manage to stick to a helpful review for about 30 seconds before returning to bashing.
Look - I get it. They went direct to consumer. You get zero dollars for this video and zero from anyone who buys a Mockingbird.
I wish I would have seen a more honest review on the merits. It obviously (by price) isn't in the same class as the $1000 strollers. Be straight about that. I don't expect it to be the same for 1/3 the price. But I doubt it is the low quality, cut corners, terrible stroller just waiting for a recall that you suggested in this "review".
As we are nearing the "finish line" and getting the last of our baby gear purchased, I was actively looking for ways that I could support your business. I'm glad that you don't take kickbacks for reviews. However, you DO get money from the other brands you sell, because you sell them. You buy them from the manufacturer, then sell them at a higher price. That's how retail works.
And I'm fine with that. And I'm fine if you think that the Mockingbird is an inferior product. I just found this video to be inferior to your other videos.
You did very little discussion of pros or how it worked, and weren't even sure if the bassinet was included. The comparison to the UPPAbaby also seems like a poor fit. If the Mockingbird was sold at retail, I'd guess it would be in the $600 range? So compare it to those options.
On the whole, this video just didn't meet what I've come to expect from you and felt more like a bash session than an honest review.
Looking at the comments, yes, some people preferred other options, which is to be expected, but many also felt this wasn't a good review video.
