    Not exactly a balanced piece of reporting was it. It happily reported the UN mistakenly called the language extinct a few years ago, but didn't go on to say it is now correctly classed a "critically endangered". I detected a hint of disrespect from Channel 4 in how this topic was reported.

      A lot of Cornish emmigrated to the US to work as miners. Parts of Wisconsin and Michigan have quite large Cornish communities.

    The only reason anglostan has finally recognised the Cornish is that the population is now so saturated with second and third generation anglo immigrants.That is also why there is now a university.Notice that there was no apology for the centuries of racial oppression?

      100%. The English have mistreated the Celtic nations for hundreds of years. Funny how they all move down here though to come buy up our houses and try to turn OUR home into English since they've let their own become overrun by immigrants. I hate it all.

      bingpz I was born in Cornwall and lived here all my life, however I wasn't here in 1872. Which makes me English like everyone born and raised in Cornwall. unfortunately there are a few name calling cowards that let the county down not mentioning any names!       No-one tested me and my family have been here for centuries. This report is based on a study of some not all, although there probably is truth in it it still doesn't change the fact that Cornwall is a part of England.

      The Cornish are different because they have a separate Celtic culture and language to the rest of England.

      westhamboy95 Very few but they're still cultusrally and historically different. You could argue the same with Scotland when (unfortunately) only ~50,000 people speak Gaelic. They're still very different to English people.

    Ok, then. East Anglia still has a flag. We have a history and a regional identity. How come we can't be a minority. Mind you, if the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and Cornish are "minorities", how come the English are not given any recognition?

      ***** Cornwall has a distinct history separate in a lot of respects from england until 1872.The anglo saxons in Norfolk are tourists by comparison

    This is a totally manufactured identity though. There hasn't been a distinct Cornish identity for hundreds of years.
    It's about as legit as those people who pretend to be druids at Stonehenge.

      Not hundreds also its like saying Scottish, English and Irish don't have any cultural differences, Cornwall has a strong history and has remained its own kinda place since the romans came over Cornwall kept its celtic heritage while the South West romanised, although as we go on with all our technology differences are becoming less and less distinct between counties

That most people in Cornwall who want independence always go on about how there “ancestors” were Celtic and were Britons and all that and I’m not going to assume that you aren’t but I have a feeling that most people in Cornwall aren’t even descendants of those original Celtic people. There families could have moved there and after the settlement of the Anglo-Saxons they probably got displaced and scattered

In some places we have lots of mixing either of emmets and cornish people or with foreigners etc but in many places we have people who are pretty much fully Cornish (farmers for example). Regardless of whether or not you are fully Cornish, if you have a some Cornish in your blood and you were born and bread down here, you're still Cornish.
