- Cheap, chalky watercolour pain in an expensive sketchbook.. what could go wrong? Hope you guys are ready for another very long draw with me episode! As always these are my favourite to make, to watch and it seems most of you enjoy them as well. Ooooh yes we will have a sketchbook tour! It'll be a while though since Im taking my time only sketching like... once a week ahah. Maybe it should be a daily habit :P Thank you!
For how well you kept at it with such challenging paint, I watched your whole video and did not click on "Skip Ad".
It shows that when you are beginning you can create a lot with cheap paints..I could not afford a lot when I first started using paints so I used the ones like they use at school and just the basic colours..surprising what can be done with those ..This has turned out beautiful,if you had done it with watercolours you normally use you would have got far more colours in the work ..but still it’s gorgeous 😀
I really think the chalky paint compliments the mood of the drawing, it gave it a really soft look that I think is something I would go for even for a final art piece. The pop of blue in the background was really nice too. I think what kind of paint or pencils you use doesn't necessarily mean your final piece will turn out good or bad. Instead I think it depends on what kind of look and style and texture and all that you want your art to have and whatever you come up with that ties it all together in a unique way. I honestly like the soft look of the cheaper paints because it allows you to have softer and lighter shades. Of course it's not everyones preference, but I really the chalky cheap paint turned out very well with the art, I just wanted to say that it looks really good as it is💚 love your work!😄💖

I find it amazing that so many people use such poor supplies when it is hard enough to make something you like with good supplies! Interesting video thanks for giving it a go! Have a good afternoon! EDIT: The one thing I want to say about these cheap art challenges is if your trying to paint with watercolors for the first time it can be very discouraging to try to use these supplies, when if you just had some decent paints and paper your could get a much better results!

I never graduated from my tracing board as a kid so I never really explored other media but you're making me really want to get like... a watercolor coloring book. x3 You just make it look so easy and fun and beautiful.
I'd also recommend white nights watercolours. They are absolutely lovely and cheap for the quality they have, not to mention their sets are generally very well colour coordinated in my opinion.

I also recommend a winsor and newton cotman small half pan set. I bought one for 10 € or so and it's not brilliant but totally fine if you don't have that much money like me lol
I actually used that before I invested in my Shcmincke! Filled up a full sketchbook even :D I used it a lot and it works perfectly. Much better than the chalky childrens stuff

What I found really interesting about this video is that you pretty much used the pure/ saturated colors directly from the pans, I wonder how well the colors would be at mixing

I love the hare centaurs, but I like the other you came up with too! ^_^
your art is beautiful, and making those cheap paints look good was hard work, but a tip for the future: It's better to use H graphite when working with watercolor, because B pencils have a much higher graphite payload (because they're softer, etc etc i'm sure you know this) but, because there's more graphite loose when you apply water, there's more of a chance the B graphite pencils will muddy your watercolors.
so, either lift the pencil with a kneaded eraser if you're more comfortable drawing with the softer pencils or like the bolder lines, or,
use H graphite pencils to avoid muddy watercolors.
I find a 2H usually works best.

I'm used to the chalky, unruly paint because I'm too poor for good supplies, LOL. Luckily I'm not professional, and watercolor is very forgiving.

I have never used any other watercolors than the "chalky" ones in my life.. I don't even know how the difference is to real watercolors 🤔 One day I will be able to buy real ones 😂 Until then I keep doing chalky watercolor paintings 🤷♀️

You can use crayola markers on a pallet and use them like watercolors. I did that and they ended up looking like a mix of copic and watercolor!
If you have 15 bucks , get the SeamiArt kit from Aliexpress, has 50 stunning colours that are very pigmented, looks, feels and reacts 100% like high grade aquarel, one catch it that its not lightfast. So selling art is not advised, and its best for working in sketchbooks.

I recently bought two chocolate tins just because they were the perfect size for my colour pencils. LOL
Wow, very pretty! Nice process, too. Watching this was very therapeutic. Personally, I think the blue in the background looks great. A nice contrast to the blue, and gold undertones. The only other color I could think that would have also worked would have been orange, or yellow. Thanks for the video!

Lol Dina, i got one of these kind of watercolour sets and you're so right about the brushes! ahahah the pigments are pretty decent but still a bit chalky. Although i always prefer tube paint for vibrancy. :)

Rabbit/hare hybrids are okey in my opinion. I've actually drawn one myself. They look silly when you put them in a sitting pose.

The end result still looks dope tho. I'd say to beginners or those still practicing color mixing or color blending, try out some like the chalky paint until you're confident to use the good stuff. Just to not "waste" money 😊

I was wondering what you end up doing with that type of stuff? Like you said youd probably not use those art things again an I think it would be a cool if you did like giveaways for the cheap art stuff you end up testing, like it's still got a lot of product for some random person who looks up to and gets inspired from you to use for practicing things for shits an giggles also it is a really cool tin case, I did that with like some peppermint bark tin container after to put all my tube paints an some brushes in lol

Since there's a white in there, t looks like a gouache set :) Gouache is also more chalky than watercolor
I dunno I think every "children" watercolour set is made very differently from actual watercolour. Therefore it works more like gouache? It's not completely gouache haha, but very very similar. Maybe even more textured and not as flat and matte :)
Could you do a video on color mixing?
Ooo I'm thinking of making a challenge called "can you mix this" where I try and match a palette with just the base colours I have :D
