Rivet Sailboat Mast Spreaders Repair

  • This is my first attempt with using a rivet gun. Not exactly perfect on these spreaders so hopefully it holds well. I may need to just drill them out and try again.

    Nice repair! Some people recommend Tef-Gel or Lanacote on the rivet to prevent corrosion caused by dissimilar metals (stainless and Aluminum). Of course, you never want to use aluminum rivets for rigging...
    For the clearance issue, you might consider using threaded rivets perhaps?

      Thank you for the info. I was using aluminum rivets as I knew the corrosion issue. I didn’t think it was an issue but now that you brought that to my attention I will change them out with stainless. Is it because aluminum rivets wouldn’t be strong enough?

    What material were the rivets? Do they have to be stainless?

      So I used aluminum but I’m thinking maybe I should have used stainless. I’m assuming stainless would be stronger but I was thinking about how my mast is aluminum

    I would have removed spreader then you have room for viveting gun to fit the repin your spreader

      Gosh that makes so much sense. It’s like I was putting on my shoes before putting on my pants lol
