    Great idea. I did the same thing, but I just bought some aluminum screws and cut them off with my Dremel. From their you are ready to sand, prime and paint.

    I would have welded those up for you for $15 per hole with finish polishing, $75 minimum for the onsite visit. I also would have filled in some of the electrolytic corrosion pitting on the surface.
    You may want to in the future consult with a local welder. I'm thinking most would be in the $150 range for this kind of work, and it would have saved you a day or two of your free time.

    the aluminum is anodized, but not anymore!

    why on earth would you go thru all that when you can use close tolerance POP RIVETS. much faster cleaner and stronger choice by far. (knowledge is power- power is strength) save your energy. Do it the smart way.
