Well done and RESPECT to your father. The Pakistanis played a pivotal role in extracting the Americans from the cauldron. Had it not been for the Pakistani forces, the American losses would have been even higher. It was a great shame that the role played by the Pakistan military was mostly 'airbrushed' out of the film. I read the book, 'BHD,' years ago, so I was aware that Gen Garrison had to go cap in hand and request assistance from the Pakistani force commander. By assisting the American's, the Pakistanis compromised their UN neutrality. All credit to them for helping the beleaguered American's out of that hellish scenario. RESPECT from Britain.

Can't help but think about Shugart and Gordon for some reason right now. "Where's the rescue squad?" "We're it." I hesitate to use the word "hero" because in a way to me, its almost putting others on a pillar. When in all actuality, all the men and women of the military are just doing their jobs. That said, MOHR Shugart, Gordon and all the others who died were great men. Outstanding warriors, dare I say, the best of us. I cant even imagine what they went through. Peace to the fallen. Recon.
They knew it was a one way mission to save that pilot. They were both green berets before delta force, masters of combat and killing. They proved that 2 men could beat out an entire army if they had the ammo to do so. They only got over ran because of a lack of ammo. It got to a point they were picking up enemy weapons and shooting those, even worse to a point they were having to resort to hand to hand combat near the end of their lives. They saved that man’s life that day, like true gladiators and warriors.

I hesitate to use the word "hero" because in a way to me, its almost putting others on a pillar. When in all actuality, all the men and women of the military are just doing their jobs. That said, MOHR Shugart, Gordon and all the others who died were great men. Outstanding warriors, dare I say, the best of us. I cant even imagine what they went through. Peace to the fallen.

The did manage to get out of there by NOT using heavy weapons to not provoke the population and prevent the situation to get out of hand. They had french wheeled tanks but never opened up with their 80 mm but only 7.62, same, Pumas helis didn't open with their 20mm.
But they had armored transport vehicles...

@Delle Yozzuf you probably believe that if America went to war with another country you would assume that every soldier kills civilians
Sad to see that so many of you are commenting and arguing on trifle issues when so many men lost their lives. So many mothers lost their son, so many wives their husband and so many children their father. Think, think hard of their LOSS!
We won that battle. I miss my friends.
Most recent Jocko podcast has Mike durant on. The 160th pilot who was shot down and held captive. Good stuff.
Yeah reading about the events leading up to it was crazy, they UN messed up there negations with the warlords which exasperated the conflict, they tired to bully warlords who where fluent in the language of violence.higly recommend you look into the events and timeline it's highly fascinating
