  • A part by part analysis of the key ideas of every chapter in Volume 2 of the Second Sex. In another episode of Read and Discuss with me, we talk about the highly influential 'Second Sex' by Simone de Beauvoir, which is considered a fundamental feminist text, and is one of the foundations of second wave feminism. I know lately these videos have not been 15 minutes, but I still try to be as concise and simple as possible, to make these classics more accessible and understandable. I aim to offer a non biased summary, that contains little of my opinion, it is the author’s key ideas that I summarise. I hope you enjoy the video, and thank you for being patient.

Just finished part 2! It's my french exam tomorrow now (if you saw my last comment, hi!!) and I think I can actually answer and question abt this book now. Simone de Beauvoir is a very interesting woman, and her feminism is such an important thing. Thank you for this video, I could not read this book in a weekend

Thanks for jogging my memory on some of Beauvoir's ideas. You have been an incredible aid for my exam this Tuesday.
Your style of explanation is also really well done and nice to listen to, surprisingly soothing for someone with not that many subscribers.

It is difficult to disagree with de Beauvoir's views on marriage. The average age of marriage by country supports this claim. While the age of marriage is high in geographies where individual freedom is high, we see that the age of marriage decreases in places where social pressure has a high impact on intimacy between the sexes.
In this context, the decision to marry seems to turn into a symbol for the legitimacy of one's identity in public, rather than individual evaluations.
Another great content 👍👍It's a shame that it has less views than the first video.
