      I think Mayfeld was a Mando, and an Imperial conscript. He just didn't want to tell Din.

    little weathering trick from the rpg miniature community: when you make up a paint wash, add a drop of dish soap. it's a flow aid, which will help the paint settle nicely in recesses, where dirt naturally builds up. it's more useful with smaller details and textures than on large areas.

    Nice trick with the aluminum caulk! I love the variation of Mando gear out there, I'm making my own Mando, just for me. Not going for MMCC. I used to be a fan of them but every since the show came out, they've become as big headed as the 501st. That doesn't mean people can't just enjoy making their own Mando gear for themselves though. Remember people it's supposed to be fun!!

    • @richardhannay4253
      @richardhannay4253 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Proto DOES have the "chipped paint" molding on the rest of it from the standard Boba helmet. However, I'm sure that can be either filled in a bit, or utilized with a contrasting paint scheme underneath?

    Nice work! I made my custom mando before the mercs were even thought of and then joined when they first started. I cant stand how picky they have become. They retired me a while ago and i have yet to get back in to it but i will once again here soon. the costuming itch is just to powerful.

    • @bcfowler82
      @bcfowler82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacobhaynieful they retire you if you're inactive for a bit. At the time there were no events going on. i found out when i was going to go to an event that popped up, first one in my area in a long while. when i went to the member page it said I was retired. They didn't contact me or anything just said by by. When i contacted them about it they said i had to apply again and my armor may not be good enough anymore and i couldn't attend events because i wasn't officiall anymore. I hold a bit of a grudge because of this but it is worth joining just make sure you keep in contact so they don't boot you during dry periods. that was a long time ago so they might not do that any more at least i would hope there's more communication now. I had no idea at the time that you could be retired.

    @gregryan4333 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but the white prototype boba fett black series helmet doesn't have the dent and the "battle damage" almost comes right off with a 120-220 sanding pad. Also when I bought mine online I paid $85. I guess they are not selling as well as the true colored helmet and are way cheaper.

    If I would have found this video a day earlier, I would have been a lot less anxious taking mine apart tonight. I wanted to remove the visor because it's easier than masking, but once I started getting into it, I realized it comes apart relatively easily, if you take your time. The glued spots inside of the "ear" areas were a bit touch and go!

    • @theheartlessknight2426
      @theheartlessknight2426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^^ ---- The comment I left is for exactly that reason. These things are often glued or even plastic welded, so, I admire the dedication and wish everyone the best luck. I think my toy isle one has a better harness and visibility, plus, it doesn't fog-up due to some slick concealed vents under the cheek arches. The drawback, of course is that it's three pieces and pops apart a little too easy... unless some bantha spit is used to keep it together like mine haha!

      The MMCC is a costuming club, as the name says. They have standards for the costumes they will approve, just as any other cosplay club would have. They also dont have the mando cosplay market. You are perfectly able to make a mando cosplay and not be a member of the MMCC, and they would be perfectly fine with that, even if you used construction paper and hot glue to make it.

    I actually think the aluminum colored caulking added a lot! it looks like it was welded or formed together as one unit rather than peices that interlock! It might be a bit extra pricey for one build but I really like the way it turned out!

  • @seangere9698
    @seangere9698 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could've used maybe 1/4th or less catalist in that bondo. The more you use the faster it flashes. Yes it takes a little longer to fully cure but it gives you way more work time and let's you apply thicker amounts in one place.
    If you ad a drop or two of flowade to the wash, windex or dishwasher fluid, will allow your wash to get into all the details much better and easier.

    For cracking plastic cases, may I suggest a vinyl guitar pick ( You can buy a ton of these for nothing on the interwebs ), or pop down to your local Fries or Harbor Freight and pick-up a few plastic spudgers to have for this kind of thing? Neither will hurt your budget and there's less risk of damaging the helmet itself. Although, conversely... Screw it. Bondo! Hehehe. Great video and I hope I didn't sound like a l33t d00d. The beauty is that folks don't need approval. But, to be able to join the Mercs, there is a certain measure of uniformity. Funny, I don't think most of the mandos in The Mandalorian would have been approved, their armor is so different.
      But the club does have many different classes and weapons for folks to choose from, so there really is a lot of flexibility.

    for the visor you had to place a white sticker or paper in front of the original and copy the shape... then stick that on the new plastic and cut it then. if you put the original in front, you dont get the size correctly because of the thickness of the material.

    Thanks for the video! This is the best one I found on disassembling a Black Series Boba helmet.
    At approximately 12:41 you show the internal skin on the top of the helmet; do you think it would be possible to remove this, and reassemble the helmet without it?
    With the harness removed and no padding, my helmet is kind of a tight fit on my head (has room on the sides, but not back/front; my nose is up against the visor a little, lol)
    I think if I remove that piece I'll get some more room.
    I'll be keeping my helmet as-is, so I don't want to tear it down and risk breaking stuff if it isn't necessary.
    Thanks!

    Another question in regards with the Visor-
    The shade 3 R as you mentioned that you previously used. Would that be suitable and fit this helmet? I'm just curious now because with through of the work of trimming out the one you had and having it being big for the seem on top to pop up and to place the one inside and behind the other that came with the helmet I'd almost either consider attempting to get the one you mentioned or at least removing the visor and put a tint over it and attempt to try that.
    I'm still very new to all of this so it's still fascinating learning all of this process.

I think the part with the longer screw in the center above the visor, the band may or may not be glued in even with all of the screws taken out. I’m afraid of pulling it too hard it breaks. Henry Bloomfield Make sure to hit it with primer before painting with colors. I did 3 silver primer coats on mine, sand the helm lightly in between coats about 1 hour after for each coat. Then do 2 coats of whatever color you want and sand in between coats. Sanding is massively important as you can get blemishes if you layer without sanding.
      Hope this helps!
      Also you don’t need to take it apart, just remove the visor and fill the helmet with paper before spraying.

    Is EVA foam an approved material? Or does it have to be something else?

      I'm sure you know by now as this comment in 2 years old, but Eva is not approved a material for hard parts like armor. Yet you can still use it as long as it's hidden so like padding. From what I read it was approved on a case by case bases until people were having to many problems with it so it was out right removed as a approve material.

    I didn't know aluminum colored silicon was a thing. Good to know! Thanks!
    I was worried about that gap on the brow when converting my Black Series bucket too. I covered mine up by gluing some 1/8" diameter rubber cord around the circumference.
