WOW! That is so gorgeous! Your and your friend are blessed. Her for having such a wonderful gift and you with your talent. As for pricing, people just do not realize how MANY hours and time it takes.
Beautiful work. I appreciated your comments on people who ask about buying your work. I do Quilts of Valor for wounded veterans and frequently I'm asked to make custom quilts. It's irritating when people expect to pay discount store prices for custom work. One lady almost exploded on me when I told her the cost of the supplies only for her custom baby quilt would be around $35 and that the projected labor cost would be over $300 (20 hrs). She was comparing that to the $20 she would pay at Walmart for "the same thing". No, ma'am, it's NOT the same thing. Your friend is a very lucky lady to receive such a gorgeous gift.
I have seen many beautiful quilts but this one is the tops. I quilt by hand and just plain work but this is a raving beauty and a very advance pattern. The embroidery work really adds to the beauty of the quilt. What a beautiful job. this quilt would win top prize.
I just loved your video, and the humor you shared. Well done, and it certainly did help me to understand what it was going to take to put the quilt together in real time. I do have the template, actually have had it since 2016, and it is now 2021, and I am just now brave enough to try taking it on. I too first saw this on Kay Wood Channel with Cheryl Phillips and just had to have the book and template. Once I got it I was hesitant to start, I played around with it and re read the book and re watched the video, but never quite got started. Then I found your video and after watching you decided, I was ready to tackle it too. Thanks for all the extra it took to record all your work.
I have seen this before and wow does not do enough justice. its fantastic work and love the work time and most of all the LOVE you have put into this BEAUTIFUL Quilt for your Best Friend.
WOW! I can quite imagine it as they are pieces of art and the amount of work that goes in to them is incredible! My friend loved it so I'm very happy with that :)
So nice to be able to see this after having watched Cheryl Phillips' demo on another TH-cam site....helped this newcomer to double wedding rings in understanding this method. It is also great for people to realize just how much work goes into a quilt!
Wow!,an amazing amount of work, talent and love but an,utterly, incredible result. This was jaw dropping to watch and definitely, worth it.One talented lady and one, extremely, lucky best friend.
Utterly mind boggling! You have amazing perseverance skills. I don’t know if I would enjoy that many hours into a quilt. I just finished my second ever lap quilt. I can’t imagine finishing a quilt of this scale. The additional embroidery is stunning as well. I do embroidery for work so I know exactly what it’s like to wait through 3 hours of embroidery! I’m just amazed at what you’ve created! You’re friend is quite possibly the luckiest person in the world to receive such an amazing quilt!
Sian the quilt and quilting is amazing so pretty and the embroidered panels just make it so beautiful your friend will still be using it now and still have many years left to appreciate the work you put in . My mum made me a lap quilt and she's not with us any more but I will treasure it forever. Ps your hair really suits you short
Wow, that is absolutely gorgeous!!!! My first quilt was a Wedding Ring, I made it about 36 years ago. Learned so much doing it. It was so faded from washing it so much, it was just looking really sad, so last year gave it to a dog shelter. Hopefully, it kept a dog warm in one of those cold concrete kennels.
I love your quilt! What an unbelievable amount of time and love went into creating the quilt for your friend's 40th birthday and I know she cherished it when she received it. I would like to say I totally understand the amount of work that you've done on this quilt. I started this same exact quilt in March of 2015 for my niece as a wedding gift and her wedding was in June of 2015. well I also decided to embroider each one of the blocks but my theme was information about the couple. Long story short they didn't receive their quilt until June 2016 for their year anniversary because I made a queen size quilt.
I lovvvvvve 😍😍😍 this video I love that is was a long one. I have watched it a couple of times, will check it again later on. Thank you for introducing us with technique. it makes the quilting part better to handle because of quilting small pieces and not a whole quilt. I will try to get my hands on the book and ruler. Your friend is very lucky with you as her friend 🤗
Hi Ineke thank you so much for you comment, I was a little worried that this video was way too long but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Phillips Fibre Art have come up with some amazing patterns that make complicated things so easy I'd highly recommend them. My friend loved the quilt which made me very happy! :)
It's always a bit of a shock to me how much time quilts and clothing takes and I think it's because I enjoy it so much that it doesn't feel like it's taken ages! 😊
Well done. I loved to be able to see how the steps were all done rather than how it was done on video in Kaye Woods studio. I too thought that was an alternative to the traditional wedding ring quilt that my daughter has requested. I also purchased the pattern and told her it would be one of the last quilts I'd be making since I'm new at this quilting. Seeing all the steps you went through to cut and sew all this together makes me think the traditional way might not be so bad. But you have done an awesome job on this and your friend was over the moon when she received it I'm sure. Thank you for recording the entire video so one can see what it might take to do even an more simplified version. And well worth every bit the cost if you were to sell one in the future. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed this 😊 This pattern was the first ever quilt I made as I thought the process looked fairly straightforward! It is labour intensive but I love that you are doing all the steps together rather than having to finish the top then sandwich and quilt it! Let me know when you do get around to making your daughters if you use this method or the traditional 😊
Bloody hell for all the work you put into that You deserve thousands just to repeat the process for any customer. Well done you at not undercharging yourself. The fantastic video really really enjoyed it. This is one of my go back to videos well done Sian hope I have spelt your name correctly. You deserve a thousand thumbs up for this video loved the speed up version so funny
made this a couple years ago. its extremely easy. i too used machine embroidery with out the additional quilting pattern. plan on making many more. the book and template well worth the value since so many want double wedding ring.
It's beautiful your friend will love it. I'm going to make my daughter one but I'm going to go with the way quilt in a day. Eleanor burns. You can find her on youtube. I have never made one so I'm a chicken I'm going for a easier way. My daughter got married so I'm hopping to finish it by her first wedding anniversary. It's really beautiful
OMG!!! What a lucky friend. And even though it took you so long I'm sure it was still enjoyable as it came together. I TOTALLY would have guilded the lily like you did on the rings with the decorative stitching and the amazing embroidery. You make me want to create an embroidered quilt now......errrm some day LOL
Omg thank you for the journey, how wonderful did that quilt turn out! I also bought the book/templates with plans of making one for my little sister (who i might add is 50 now) when she ever decides to marry. Heavens you have opened my eyes- I'm going to need a years notice of the event. I really should perhaps bind my butt at the sewing machine and make a start before talk of wedding rings suddenly creeps into a conversation. Ps. I don't think I will ever see a pizza in the same way either lol
I was not prepared at al for the amount of time it took but that was more to do with my choice of embellishment than the basic pattern I think! But yes get started a couple of years early if you can ;) .......mmmmm spinning pizzas!
Well that was astounding! You are a friend indeed. The whole vid was fascinating. I am just about to buy my first embroidery machine so of course very interesting to watch your machine perform. I will never be a quilt maker but was amazed at the work and skill you put in to it. The quilt was simply beautiful and I have subbed as I am looking forward to some great sewing hints I hope from you and seeing the other quilts you are going to make as well as all the lovely clothes. You thanked us for watching but I thank you for filming it.
That is such a lovely comment :) thank you so much! I loved every minute of putting that quilt together knowing that is was for someone so special to me :) worth every second!
It's beautiful. I have the same pattern but I'm struggling with sewing and matching scallops. I was hoping your video would show step by step. Thanks anyway!
Annie Delgado thank you Annie. I didn't want to do a step by step guide as Phillips Fibre Art have already done one on Kay Woods channel ...plus this was only my 3rd quilt so I'm definitely not an expert 😂 I can always try and help though just drop me a message if you'd like 😊
Cheryl Phillips (designer of the tool) does have a youtube video on how she constructed the quilt. I do have to agree with you though I did have a tough time on the scallops also when I made mine for my niece.
I'm in the process of making a Super Queen with this pattern (9 blocks long, 7 blocks wide, plus outside scallops). Having some issues with the outer scallops. Any suggestions on how to get the "ears" to fold in nicely? Just seems to be a lot of bulk, but if I trim out any, it just shows raw edges.
I know what you mean about the "ears" if I remember rightly I pressed them under and then used my machine to sew them down as I was heavily quilting the arcs anyway I thought it'd be easier. The first time I made this pattern I sewed them by hand as recommended and just embraced the bulk.....it was my very first quilt though so I had no clue what was right! I'm sorry that's not more helpful, please let me know how you get on and I'd love to see your finished one :)
Thank you! I think I'll give that a try. Not sure if I can post a picture here, but I'll try to send you an email when it's finished. It's going to be a memory quilt with photos, instead of embroidery or quilting, in the middle of each ring.
My daughter has requested a king size quilt. The fabric requirements in the book say 18 3/8 yards for the backing and 8 yards for the interior squares. Is this correct? Seems like an awful lot of fabric. Thank you.
I have the same book you do and I've only made the lap size quilt so I can't comment on the accuracy of the fabric requirements for the king size. I'm guessing they assume you will be buying 44" wide quilting cotton for the quilt and you do need 64 x 18" squares plus 64 scallops for king size. If in doubt you might try emailing Phillips Fibre Arts as they will have much more info 😊 Good luck with your quilt 😊
Ok so I bought the book for the pattern. decided that my quilt will be a mere shadow of yours. HeHeHe. I only have until Oct 10th. So Please can you tell me where you got that arched tool? I will try to watch again in case i missed it. I did look in intro.
@@KittenishBehaviourSian Thank you. I just got my book and it came with the arc tool. Yeah. I can't wait to get started. Still finishing up my first quilt which i did cathedral window pattern. I am trying to force myself to always finish one before I start another. (how long will that last?)
WOW! That is so gorgeous! Your and your friend are blessed. Her for having such a wonderful gift and you with your talent. As for pricing, people just do not realize how MANY hours and time it takes.

The most time I've spent on a quilt is about 80 hours... This is impressive and BEAUTIFUL! ♥️
What a gorgeous Quilt....well worth the time and effort!!
You are fantastic!!!! What a friend, what a quilt. You have a very lucky friend😃
I've seen quilts like yours go for $5000 in the states. They are worth every penny. What a labor of love. Great job.
WOW! I can quite imagine it as they are pieces of art and the amount of work that goes in to them is incredible! My friend loved it so I'm very happy with that :)
