  • All ballroom dances have syncopation in their rhythms. For that reason, it is absolutely crucial for ballroom dancer to be able to recognize the WHOLE beat, HALF and is QUARTER
    beats.
In this lesson on musicality and timing, we going to break down our beat into the quarter and half bets.
    Hope this is helpful.
Stay tuned for more videos on this fundament and absolutely essential topic for dancers.

That was a super helpful video -- thank you SO much. I have een trying to understand musicality with my dance for quite awhile, and this is the best I have ever heard it explained. Thanks again.

I thought this would be the best place to ask, since it is directly related to Music and Tempo.
"Speed". I love the Latin Exercise videos you have made, so here is a request for another, - a video with exercises that help us gain speed so we can move to the tempo speed of the Cha & Jive music.
I have been looking for the right exercises to help my speed in the dances of Cha and Jive, especially technique exercises that help us develop speed in our dance movements.
Can you (Alexey) do that please?

    Thank you for you sharing!
Could I have some question regarding Rumba music count with the International Rumba step.
I can see some option of matching count step number (2, 3, 4, 1) of the International Rumba with a Rumba music bar 1st to 4th beat (I've written the beat ordinal number in Roman numerals I, II, III, IV, to distinguish it from the step number) like following:
Rumba beats: I II III IV
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Option C2/B2 1 2 3 4
(count step 2 on 2nd beat)
    Option C2/B1 2 3 4 1
(count step 2 on 1st beat)
    Option C2/B3 4 1 2 3
(count step 2 on 3rd beat)
Question 1: Which of the above option is appropriate or we just put the count 2 with the strong beat of Rumba rhythm?
Question 2: In the case of music with it's Rumba rhythm is soft on the 2nd beat (beat II), I would like to put it in count step 1 (hold) of International Rumba step.
So the sequential order step count in a Rumba music rhythm bar is: "4, 1, 2, 3"
Could I use option C2/B3 by putting count step 2 with 3rd beat (beat III) of rumba rhythm instead of
matching step 2 with 1st beat (beat I) of Rumba music rhythm of the option C2/B1?

Thanks for the video. I'm a musician more than a dancer and want to program some drum sequencers with foxtrot and quickstep rhythms to play along behind some jazz standards hence making some of our repertoire more suitable for dancers. I'm familiar with the 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a basic 4/4 patterns. What would the patterns be for a Foxtrot: 1 2 3 & 4 (1- Slow 2-Slow 3-Quick &-Quick 4-Slow) and a Quickstep : 1 2 & 3 4 &, (slow-quick-quick, slow-quick-quick)? I'd set a hi hat to tap out these rhythms with an emphasis on the 1st beat. Any help much appreciated.

      That’s awesome man.
With foxtrot is a little tricky because we have many different rhythms. If you’re talking about basic (SSQQ) rhythm then it would take six beats. (S1-2 S3-4 Q5 Q6) slow count in this case will take two beats, and quick con take one.
But then we also have a (SQQ) rhythm, (so called box rhythm) that takes four counts.
