    I love cha-cha. Danced a lot of cha-cha in American and International Styles.
    In International style, I keenly know that the strong beat is on the "2" thanks to the strong Cuban element, probably due to the mambo clave.
    The basic International cha-cha timing is usually "2 3 4 and 1, 2 3 4 and 1".
    Basic syncopated timing would be "2 and 3, 4 and 1, 2 and 3, 4 and 1"
    Now in dancesport and open-level cha-cha, you have to deal with a rhythmic enhancement in cha-cha known as "guapacha timing". For instance....
    "(hold 2)" and 3 4 and 1 2 3 4 and 1 (hold 2) and 3 4 and 1" Such moves like the ronde chasse and hip-twist chasse can have such guapacha movements.
    The mantra for guapacha rhythm is you hold the first part of beat 2 but you move on the second part of the beat 2. Simply, it is "hold 2 and then move."
    Finally there is the extended syncopated rhythm that can throw off cha-cha dancers, known as "2 and 3 and 4 and 1, 2 and 3 and 4 and 1" - and you probably know one cha-cha advanced move that does have it is in the Syncopated Cuban Breaks. The mantra here is there is no "and" after the 1 in the Syncopated Cuban Breaks - to make things easy.

    I have had people walk off the floor if did not start the Cha cha at the right time. Technically are you to start the dance on 2? That is what some dancers are saying. Above you started on the 123.. As a social dancer I just wait for that 123 in the music and add the syncopation. At 81 I am learning how to play the drums so your clarification really helped me. Thanks for clearing up the reading of notes for me.

    Hi Alexey! That was a great and informative video. When dancing the Cha Cha, the one and three beats are emphasised, right? I know that this means that we have to hold the beat/elongate on the one and the three. I understand this in principle and can do this without music. However, when trying to hold the one and three when dancing to Cha Cha music, I always go off time. Do you have any tips that can help? :) Looking forward to seeing more videos!

      @ballroomwithalexey3951  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jenny, you absolutely right!
      Counts 1 and 3 are stronger counts. So when you dance you need to accent or highlight them, make them more powerful, but not really hold them.

    I love your technique videos, Alexey, and I also "liked" this one! But what you say here is highly misleading, if I don't use the word "wrong". The presented rhythms are not _The Cha Cha_ or _The Rumba_ , they are just example rhythms that you can use in your Cha Cha or Rumba dancing (and not only there), among many many others, simpler and more complex ones. I mean you don't really want to make me think that when I'm doing like the Cuban Breaks, then I'm not dancing Cha Cha, because the element has a different rhythm and so it's not Cha Cha anymore... (I did it in competition, the judges said it's ok, so I'm kind of right, I suppose ;-) )

    • @ballroomwithalexey3951
      @ballroomwithalexey3951  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. I thank you for your concern, but this video is not about explaining all possible rhythms in Cha Cha.
      It’s about one, main, basic rhythm.
      Specifically for those who struggle understanding and counting it.
      You cannot complicated it if you don’t know foundation.
      So this video is foundation of cha cha rhythm 😊✌🏻

    • @musicalflow_skillslab
      @musicalflow_skillslab 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ballroomwithalexey3951 Thanks for your answer! I know you don't know me, so it's understandable that you think that I don't know what your video is about. Well, there is another main, even more basic Cha Cha rhythm - 1234, dancing just to the beat (yes, this is actually a rhythm and for fact, the judges say it's ok!). Everyone will struggle with anything more complicated if they don't know that, so yes I'm totally with you that it is important to know the foundation! I see that if people know how to dance 1234, then they have no problem at all putting "&"s anywhere they want to put them or are requested to put them in order to pass a test. So which foundation you take may seem to be important for what you want to achieve.

    if you listen to the music at all, why would you cha-cha-cha with your feet (or some other part of your body) to a rhythm that was not in the music? Cuban Cha-cha invariably sounds 1 2 3 cha-cha-cha. BUT in a lot of american pop cha-cha music you hear 12 cha-cha-cha. Can you adapt? NO? Tough nuggies.
