I just used tried technique for my fussy 2 week old and he passed out after 5 minutes of the 5s. He woke up a little later but it was phenomenal to see him fall asleep so quickly. It’s worth a try parents! Good luck 😌
Him: "the womb is louder than a vacuum cleaner" Me: "so thats why my newborn fell asleep to the vacuum cleaner" I needed to vacuum my living room and didnt want to wake up baby but he legit fell asleep to it haha
It’s better developmentally for the hands to be up...it’s simple guys...I’m a NICU nurse...every single baby calms to being held, rocked, and/or having their bottom patted. If they’re still fussy then they are either in pain, hungry, or have a dirty diaper. Shushing really is powerful and babies love to be on their tummies (just long enough to calm them)
Read his books Happiest Baby on the Block and Happiest Toddler. Both provide great techniques. I always give them as gifts to friends who have babies. Granted every baby is different and not any one thing will work for a fussy baby. I did find his process worked almost every time for my babes.
Audio disappears at 2 minutes 30 and doesn't come back til the end of the video. Thought I was going crazy because no one else mentions it in the replies.
Oh crap. It works like a freakin charm. I’ve done it at least 5 times all ready. My son is 1.5 months old. And he is having these episodes where he can’t sleep and goes ape shet. So I tried these 5 S’s. And they work like a charm.
For proper brain development the hands should be centerline, with hands up and fingertips touching neck/mouth. Try that next time. The arms down by the sides was an old technique that's no longer used- according to training I recently received.
Any tips for a newborn who somehow sleeps easily during all hours besides 12AM-7AM, where fussy is an understatement and a war is more accurate? Swaddling doesn't work, neither does any anti-fussy meds out there, plus we also use anti-gas/anti-colic stuff that seems to do nothing. No dirty diaper in this case either, plus all feedings were within the hour. What gives?
Where can I find the swaddle like the one in this video? I love the design that hold the hands first then zip up the whole body, this way u can keep he calms even when u change his diaper
In my country it called instant swaddle you can find it at marketplaces. But I prefer traditional swaddle. I can use it as blanket when he's older or nursing apron.
By newborn is 2 weeks and doesn't nottt like to be swaddled anymore he squirms and cries trying to take his arms out and doesnt stop crying until i undo it all haha help me
Ok.. Umm what about a 3 months old baby? I know he's learning how to use his hands and feet, but he ends up scratching his face and putting his finger in his eyes.. I'm scared he'll get badly wounded if i leave him and go to work.. When I'm with him I'm always keeping an eye on him and divert his attention to toys so that he doesn't harm himself

Tbh this is useless cuz I have a colic baby and she doesn’t take pacifiers (she hates them), she’s also strong when we swaddle her but we eventually get that done. We rock her but won’t sleep. So we cry with her. Until she gets tired of crying which takes 1-3 hours. It’s horrible.
A 1 But I’m talking about newborn. Did he kept waking up every 3 hours for his feeding time? Cuz mine did. Sometimes she would just cry all night. I also heard that boys are easier than girls. You’re so lucky to have a independent child 😭❤️
My baby is a little colic as well and hates pacifiers. Plus puts up a fight when I try swaddling her. She just want to be upright and that means someone holding her. Gripe water is helping me. Thank God.
It can feel very frustrating when others are getting results and you’re struggling. Often times continual fussiness that’s referred to as “colic” is actually gas and or reflux that has to be addressed and gotten under control first.
If a baby won’t stop crying and you tried everything to stop the baby from crying then put the baby in a safe place on his or her back like a crib or playpen and leave the room for a while. No fussy baby ever got harmed from crying.
yentl rose bico its different for each baby. You stop when you see baby doesn’t react well to it anymore, that’s when they outgrow the techniques. For my son son it was probably around 9 months.
Caver Chris 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I just been on the phone with my brother, fiancée and their 2 week old “anti-Christ “ 😂. I’ve been trying to give them tips because they haven’t slept since her arrival. I’m going to forward these videos. They sent me a recording of her crying and she sounds so cute , they weren’t impressed when I said so 🤭🤭
His actual DVD demonstrates on tons of babies throwing an absolute tantrum :) We used these techniques for our baby and it saved our sanity. I'm actually here to share a quick sample clip with my sister who just had her first baby.
Everyone here is sleep deprived and desperate. Show me the way to put a baby to sleeps who is screaming the house down, not lying there nice and calmly.
My wife say her rocking/shaking the baby like that is dangerous? Is that true?? I shake the baby as gentle as I can but she keeps saying , to not do it. I dont get how its dangerous , when I rock her same way as the lady here???
Who else lost sound at the sound part?
Shhh!

Anyone else find that the sound completely cuts out of the video at 2:36 (and for the rest of the video)?

how do u stop them from rolling over though
This is so helpful.. I feel so frustrated coz I cant calm my baby specially during night time .. thank u for this video
Have you tried rocking the baby in your arms? Socks may also help. Lot of parents don't put socks on their babies even at nighttime.
same problem
@1:48 he was jus chilling lol

Does sushing right on baby ear hurt the baby ear? Like less than 1 inch
The sound disappears right after he puts the baby on her back. No audio!

Oooooohhhh how the baby looks at him at 01:50 😅💙
Great tips, Dr. Karp. Thank you for your brilliant inventions, the SNOO and the Sleepea!
My baby doesn’t care about any of the 5 S’s when he’s throwing a tantrum lol.. and hates being swaddled even when he’s calm 🤷🏻♀️
Your baby was born to be free not to be captive 😂
Same. She freaks out when swaddled. Gets extremely agitated
Omg those babies ❤😍😍😍⚘😘
I’ve been doing the 5 s’s for 7 weeks and my baby still fusses and won’t sleep. I’m either doing it wrong or it doesn’t work for all babies
So Arthur Spiderwick a baby whisperer now?

Yes great great advice, and no volume for most of the video..does it mean that we have to be silent with the baby???.🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂

Lucky you get only 3 hours of crying! My son cries day and night!
My baby cries a lot too. Sometimes it takes him a while to calm down no matter what I try
Misread “swaddle” for “swallow” in the beginning and thought, well, that works too. Haha damn.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My baby goes to sleep the second i shush him like I'm trying to blow a bonfire out. It's like an off switch 🤷♂️

Great video.. Am from India and my place is quite hot which is why I can't swaddle my baby.. So can you please suggest me any alternative
You can do half swaddle technique
In the ultrasound my baby had her hand on her cheek

It's for newborn, but it's different for each baby, I stopped the swaddle when mine could roll over. Shushing, swinging still work!
