    Not just a vintage reel, but vintage TA Fishing. When I first started following you all those years ago, it was these types of videos I loved the most. From the bottom of my heart, thankyou. You’ve saved me from boredom, sadness and malaise many a Friday night!

    Best T.A.F. episode I've watched. I love 'back to basics' stuff. Any berk can hook a bass or pull out a perch. This was quality. My best grayling ever was as a child by the green bridge on the river tees, Barnard Castle, County Durham. I grew up on that river using ledger rigs and fly.
    Awesome stuff here as I now fish canal in the west midlands.
    Thanks Graham. Really love your work sir.

Fingerless gloves, and a bib and brace plus jacket made for winter fishing. Then you won’t feel the cold for few hours. 👍

    Excellent Graeme! Hope your hands recovered, I know all about numb hands and that, I can't stand whenever one or the other goes numb and I don't have to get cold for them to do that. Anyhow, good show mate, I wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas ⛄🎄🧑‍🎄☮️, I remember a long long time ago I was with a buddy in his boat at Dale Hollow lake fishing for smallmouth bass, in early February and it was snowing, freezing cold and the eyes of the rod's would ice up and the only way to get it off the eyes was to dunk the rod into the water, all the way to the handle just about but that would work for a little while and then we'd have to do it again. We were casting lures for the smallmouth bass, the only reason we were down there then was because that was supposedly the best time of year to have your best chance at the big smallies. He did catch about a 6 and a half pound one that day. I caught several in the 4 lb range.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a big Smallmouth...When I fished for them I found the Smallmouth were better scrappers than the Largemouth. Just my observation,don't know if anybody else thinks they scrap differently.

      @hensleyshobbies-doug7761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TAFishing - absolutely, I always thought that about the smallmouths, they just dig and dig, and the acrobatics too, nothing like it, hardly. And yeah I was froze to the bone that day, needless to say, when we were at Dale Hollow, oh and something else about that lake, it grows some huge carp and buffalo, I never caught any out of there myself but I known plenty of fellas who have. I wish you and yours a very happy Christmas buddy 🧑‍🎄🎄

Incredibly cold up here in Fife. The driving during the night for work in Dundee and Perth etc has been really challenging last few days.

    Im sure you have thought of this but market stallholders stand on multi layers of cardboard. The same can be achieved by standing on a piece decent thickness of foam insulation Its amazing how it keeps your toosies warm and fingerless gloves keep the palms warm and improves circulation to the phalanges.❤️

    Once upon a time, it was during the early capitalism in Poland, the 90's, I was at a lake. All I had is some filoselle (embroidery) and a pin (the needle type pin). So I found a stick, tied the filoselle to it, bent the pin into a hook, tied it to the end of the filoselle. I don't remember what I used for bait, but it must have been something I could find, like earthworms.
    I caught quite a few fish, roach mostly, but we still had a nice meal...
    This hoar frost - it's normal where I live - have nice pics, too.

    Some crackin Dace Greame, lovely Grayling too. I'm somewhat perplexed. Why did you have to remove the line from the bail crook each time? It is quite efficient really, but taking the line out from it seems pointless. As for the leather drag washer, make it grippier by cutting a circle of 1200 grit aluminium oxide paper and push it between the leather and the face of the spool. Is your intention to leave it unmodified to retain it's value? You could modify the bail crook to have a rotating line roller, tungsten ideally or over a small roller bearing from a reel that you could pick up a car boot sale. I think that bail crook works lovely but get a small aerosol of WD 40 , 80ml for spraying the eyes it wont cause the line to stick in the eyes then The line getting hot from abrasion could be a BIG problem with bigger fish or fill the spool with dynema braid. A good roller mod would cure all of those issues though .It has been 40 years since I've caughtt Dace that size. My nearest running water is the Arun, not certain that there's dace that size in it anymore. The Adur is close too but again as to if there's dace that size in there anymore I just dont know. I did about 4 years ago land a 3 lb 1oz perch. Lovely fish, fin perfect. A size 10 Drenna specialist hou as many red maggots I could cram onto it
    With the wellies get Scholl thermal insoles, they keep you toes 'toasty'.😉

    Well done Graeme for sticking it out with frozen digits and a pound rod with that antique reel , just goes to show it’s not the gear it’s the fisherman.

    After years of using normal wellies with a few pairs of socks and feet getting cold in winter, I defo recommend some proper thermal wellies! I got some Hot feet wellies come with liners also and my feet didn't get cold at all on a 4 hr session and I was standing in 3 or 4 inches of cold water.

      @@TAFishing They are a bit more awkward to walk in, well the ones I have anyway, but for standing in one spot fishing, they can't be beat. Keep up the good work always look forward to the videos on a friday evening after my steak sandwich and a beer.
