    This is the installation video showing the conversion from drum brakes on the rear of the 1973 Ford Mustang in the Autoedit garage to the Wilwood Superlite 4R Disc brakes!
    Check out how easy and awesome it is to make the change.
    Stay tuned because now the rear end is ready for actual setup and dial in...in the next video I'll show how to measure for the maximum size rims and tires to fit in the stock wheel well.
    Thanks for watching,
    Jason

    Even though you didn't open up this video with your normal "Howdy" I'm still going to give you a thumbs up lol. I love what you're doing with your Mustang and I love the way you put your videos together, they're fun, interesting, never dull, and opening and closing with shots of the Mustang driving helps to always get me engaged. Way to go!

    Should I take the same steps that you did here for your Mustang on my C1500? I want to do the conversion since I'm planning on installing a bigger engine, bigger tires and wheels, so for that, you need bigger brakes!

    It appears that the system uses the factory e-brake cable. Is that correct? If so it eliminates much of the hassles converting the rear brakes.

    hey mate awesome video but I did notice a couple of things not explained. First I saw you cut the drive spline of axle, is this necessary when reinstalling standard axles in my 69 mustang,. Second thing I noticed was that the wheel register end of your axle appears to have been machined , ? any help appreciated , keep up the good work cheers Brent

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These axles are universal cut to fit so if you are re-installing you might not need to cut. Not sure about that second thing.

      Garrett TheBoss I've been talking to Jay at American Powertrain and yes you can get a T5 in there with less effort than you think. The main points are getting the proper Bell-housing and they even offer a cross-member for it to bolt right in!

    I've got two questions that maybe you can help with:
    1) it looks like you upgraded the suspension. What did you use for it?
    2)When switching from drum to disc, does that affect what size mag you can put on the car?
    I've got a 67 RS Camaro that I'm upgrading but I'm a little lost as to what would be best to use to give it a solid ride and great braking.
    Thanks!!

      +Gustavo Mendoza This is a regular kit they sell for the Mustangs. Are you looking for a specific car?

  • @ldnwholesale8552
    @ldnwholesale8552 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    One major problem, those bearings will have side to side movement after a few miles and the pads will have a fair amount of knock off. The reason Ford only used a single piston sliding head calliper. You will need to install a line pressure valve to attempt to keep the pedal up. On my semi slick shod Falcon racecar I need line valves front and rear. Those stubs flex a fair amount.
    4 spot set ups are ever only functional on floating hubs. This is ditto for GM products too.

    Five years ago, I purchased a front brake conversion kit from Mac’s auto that sat in a box until this week. It stated fitment for a 1964 Ranchero. Its description was: 41-83979-1, Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit, 5 Lug, Falcon, Ranchero, 1960-1965. So I assumed it was a perfect fit. Little that I know is this was to convert from a 4 lug on a V6 to a 5 lug as in a V8. The rotor bearings ID was way too narrow for the spindle. I contacted Mac’s technician and he suggested I get a bearing that would fit both parts. Problem is that the ID needed for the original spindle is too large and the OD for the rotor is too small. I thought about trying to just get a disc and place over the original hub, so I am in the process of hunting such a thing. Anyone else had such a problem? Suggestions?
